Ready_For_Me_13 got a reaction from Wells8710 in Almost time for that two week liquid diet! :-(
I think this is going to be the hardest part of the process for me. How am I going to survive on broth and Protein Shakes for two weeks while my family indulges on normal food? ! They promised to try and do some days on liquid with me but that's easier said that done! It's the end result that will make this worth it, so let me stop complaining! This time next year I will be a new person!!!!
C'mon 1/12/15 so we can get this party started! (surgery date)

Well....I have five days to go and I am starting to feel the jitters and pressure. It doesn't help that my meralgia pasthetica (pain in the thigh) is starting to flare up. I am really looking forward to getting it over with and starting on the path to better eating and habits. I haven't been able to work out much in a formal workout, but I have been super busy like everyone else trying to re-organize things, painting, changing my room around, etc.
Not sure who else has 1/12 as their date, but I will be sure to post how I make out on Monday once I'm stabelized in my room. Best wishes again to everyone and I'm looking forward to all the pictures and updates on your success!

Awwww...I'm sorry you are going through this alone, but you will be fine and kicking butt at this weight loss thing before you know it. I am extremely nervous as well, and only have a little over a week left 1/12/15. I have thought a few times about changing my mind, but I keep telling myself I've come too far to turn back now and that I'll be in a much better place with 100+ lbs off of me. I had my EGD completed today and it was something I was also scared about, but to my surprise it was a piece of cake! Before I knew it, I was awake and ready to go home. So....I know my VSG won't be that simple, I'm mentally telling myself it won't be that bad in order to push on.
I wish you much success! Keep calm, take a few deep breaths, and buckle up for the new and fantabulous you that is coming!!!!

Lots of new things going on for me in this new year. Started my 2 week (starvation) liquid diet on 12/29, not as bad as I thought it would be. I do see food EVERYWHERE and it isn't easy cooking for my husband and 7 year old. They try not to tempt me, but it doesn't take much to do so. My two older ones are helping mom out by doing the liquid fast with me, which is so cool. We keep each other in line! Now if I could just get this next week over and get to surgery I'll really be doing something!
Oh yes....So I had my EGD today. I totally psyched myself up that this was going to be an awful experience, and that it was just a pre-cursor to my sleeve experience being the same. However, much to my surprise it was pleasant, easy, and I didn't have any issues at all. Anesthesia didn't cause any problems and I woke right up. I'm now ready to conquer my fears and get this surgery out the way so I can discover my new body. There are so many things I could be nervous about, but I'm trying my best to be positive and optimistic about my not so far off future. I guess I'm still just a mixed bag of emotions!

I've gone through the same thing! I really thought doing the liquid diet was going to be tough, but after day 3 it seems that my body has gotten accustomed to not eating as much. I kind of taught myself to ignore the desire to eat by keeping extremely busy! My surgery is on 1/12 and I don't want any drama so I'm trying to do exactly as they have told me. bread is my weakness so I purposely stay away from it while on this diet!! LOL!
Best wishes to you. Keep me posted on your progress. I see you go in one day after me! I'll be sure to keep my laptop with me in the hospital to check in.

First of all Happy Holidays everyone. Now on to business..lol.
Since my 2 week diet starts on Dec 29, I've been trying to moderately eat some of my favorite foods. The funny part about it is that my stomach is not cooperating. I've been watching what I eat for so long for the doctor and now it seems like eating and even talking about some foods make me nauseous. Don't know why, but thought I share my failed plan. Count down under way!!

Let you EGD be the example. Your surgery can be a breeze! Mine was. I had no pain, gas or any other complication you can name or imagine. I didn't even need pain meds while I was in the hospital. Tell yourself that's how you will be and keep telling yourself that until you believe it. Take that positive attitude into the hospital with you. Also high five your older kids for being awesome!

Hey there.....I'm going to have mine on the 12th as well. We'll have to keep up with each other for encouragement. I'm starting my liquid diet tomorrow and I wasn't told I could eat anything other than liquid, so you're lucky in that fact. I'm told the first three days are the worse and then it gets easier so I'm looking forward to keeping myself busy on those first three days so that I don't have time to concentrate on how hungry I am or think that I am!!! LOL!
    Best wishes!

So after researching the sleeve for weeks-I have decided to take the plunge and get the procedure! I am so excited...I can barely sleep at night and focus at work!! Since my insurance won't cover this elective surgery I will be paying out of pocket for this procedure (thus I have to wait until March to get my bonus). I am so ready for this next chapter of my life- forever and always healthy in a few months!

Thanks guys! I think I've got all the things out of my system that I thought I would crave during the two weeks of liquid only and I'm pre planning all the ways I can keep myself busy so that I don't have time to even worry about food. I'll keep you guys updated on my success. I'm down to less than a week before it's time to get it in!

I start my liquid diet on Tuesday. I have a to-do list in progress. The big task will be for me to pack up my "fluffy" (aka fat..I hate the word fat) cloths! I will be cleaning, going on walks, to the gym and reading some books! Good Luck everyone ????????

I had to do a semi liquid for 7 days (2 Protein shakes per day, and one very light meal). Then I had to do 14 days of pure liquids. The first 3 days of the liquid were the toughest. You get irritable and sometimes angry because you want more food. After that it was smooth sailing until around day 11. Something hit me that day and I was so hungry I wanted to eat the furniture! Somehow I managed to make it through that day, and the last few days I had no problems.
Just take one day at a time, and if that's too much sometimes, take it one hour at a time. The end result is definitely worth it.

My husband ate chinese, pizza, mcdonalds, etc. and i LOVED every minute of it because i KNEW i wasn't going to eat it. There was no way I was going to go off plan for that, and it was almost fun when people ate the food I liked around me (and it still kind of is fun) because I no longer had to eat it and didn't feel tempted to eat it. I know not everyone would think like that, but it worked for me. Best of luck to you!
I should mention that my diet was four weeks long- he didn't eat all that stuff in the course of a week or two

So.....I got my approval for surgery after 3 days submission from my physician! Pretty awesome right?! Well now I'm getting nervous and excited all at the same time because this is becoming more "real" to me, and 1/12/15 will be here in no time. All of that nutritional counseling, and talks have went out the door because I am panicking! YIKES! What should I order to make sure my Protein is in stock for after surgery? I've heard the Unjury is good and have some samples I'll be trying, but how much of it do I realistically need? I have to do a liquid diet for two weeks and was told I can use regular broth, and of course the unjury, but I'm worried I'll get tired of it quickly. Any other suggestions?
I swear someone needs to make a bariatric sugery book from their experience with all kinds of recipies for the post surgery process! If there is one then please feel free to direct my attention to it. One can only drink so many shakes and we need to get in 75+ grams of protein!
One last concern....the V word! Vitamins, some folks say Flintstone vitamins twice a day are okay and satisfy your Multivitamin need. Is this true? What kind of Calcium vitamins should I try, what about B-12 vitamins or shots? Help this newbie out please!

My program gave us a handbook at the first doctor's appointment. It became my bible for those first 6 weeks. I had to take into consideration when choosing a Protein drink as well as vitamins/supplements that I'm I'm vegetarian and I'm allergic to most artificial sweeteners and stevia. In my hand book was 2 page list of some of the more popular brands. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury for example, was out. It has aspartame aka sweet n low.
I would recommend trying a variety in all 2 forms: powder, liquid and premade. Once you find a few you like, buy no more than 2 weeks worth. Some people have reported their taste buds changed post-op. You don't want to get stuck with loads of something you can't tolerate.
Then there were vitamins/supplements. My doctor recommends the full regimen of AM/PM Multi, Vit D3, Calcium Citrate+D and B12. The handbook had 3 full pages front & back on that! Here I also had to be on guard for ingredients that could trigger my seafood allergy & artificial dyes. Flintstones were a no go because I can't do artificial dyes/food colorings.
I would also stock up on your liquids; herbal teas, milk or non dairy drink of choice and cream Soups or Soups that can be pureed & thinned out if necessary, hummus and yogurt.
Hope this helps. Congrats on your surgery date!

My surgery is 1/12/15. I've been considering some type of surgical help for quite some time and finally decided that VSG is best for me. I started seriously considering it in July and made outreach to my physician who got me started on the right path in August. I got my approval on Wednesday last week and now I'm a nervous wreck trying to physically and mentally prepare for an invasive procedure. I'm looking forward to it though and look forward to getting much support and giving support to others.
Best wishes on your surgery. Be sure to post how things turn out for you!

Some of the Protein powders come in huge containers. I way overbought and after one year still have six open ones left, and that is after I threw out several that I just couldn't handle anymore. They all come quickly enough, and if you run out, you can always get some at the grocery, GNC, or pharmacy until you reorder.

Your posts sound a little like you are bouncing off the walls! lol I can imagine I will be just as excited as you are today. If you order the GENEPRO from Amazon, I got it delivered in 3 days. I was shocked that it really and truly has no taste. I tried the unjury unflavored in my oatmeal, and had to throw it away. It had a horrible after taste. I even tried holding my nose to eat it, and nope, couldn't do it. I'll be following you to see what kind of Vitamins are suggested, as I haven't looked into those yet. I may just purchase them from my surgeons office. Take care, and try to calm down! HA!!
