DianeSav reacted to NoMoBand in diluted esophagus and restricted band
I had my band 4 years and my journey ended having it removed and revised to sleeve 4 months ago. My issue was also a stretched esophagus. With my esophagus working as a 2nd stomach, I could eat more and I gradually started gaining weight was my first symptom. When my esophagus issue was discovered my band was emptied and I put on even more weight very quickly. With the weight gain I qualified on the BMI requirement for revision. In addition, I was still on medications for high blood pressure, which also helped me qualify. Getting the band removed was a very tough and sad decision for me and revision was even tougher.
Four months out and my feelings have completely changed about my revision. 30 pounds down, no more stuck episodes, no more slime, no more puking, night coughs etc. and the very best is that "feeling full" is really "feeling full"! No more measuring meals, I can now do my own push aways very easily.
I understand how you are feeling and the unknowns. Hang in there. If band removal is in your future, don’t let revision surgery scare you. Of course, I’m going to say that sleeve is the way to go, but, then I would be saying different had I had the by-pass done. One thing I do know is that I still need my weight loss tool! Having my band emptied a few months, I started gaining weight and started to fall back into my old habits of overeating.
Much luck to you and please do keep me informed of what happens. jake

NO LAP BAND! Had one for 10 years. Nothing but dehydration, vomiting every day all day, reflux, aspiration while sleeping. Had the sleeve done July 9. Its great. Im a slow loser but I dont care. I can eat anything with no nausa or throwing up. The lapband came out and they didnt know the long terms affects. Read the revision boards on here

    Babbs,
We always wonder when someone comes on here and says, "Help!" ... what are they doing now that's different than they were doing when they were losing weight?
Of course, I don't know what's going on with those folks who are 3-4 years out and now gaining weight, because I don't have specific info about how they're eating / drinking / exercising.
However, I don't recall anyone coming on here saying, "I've gained!" and then offering a full list of what they're eating and drinking and exercising.
I do see some people say things like, "I know I'm eating more slider foods now than I used to." Or "I'm grazing now and can't seem to quit." Or "I don't exercise like I used to." Or "My life is so much more stressful now, and I can't focus on myself like I used to."
I have also seen people (on multiple boards) say they were able to buckle down and lose 20-30 pounds. I've also seen people on this and other boards who are 3, 4, even 5 years out who are still at goal. Not a lot, mind you. But there are some.
Remember -- I just asked the bariatric PA what happens in Year Two.

VDLT I just had to show up to appointment and not gain any weight. My PA pretty much just chatted with me. They figured Ive been through all this with the band I didnt need anything, which I would have liked. You do need to do the psych eval again. After the 3 months appointments then they submit to BCBS. I have basic and I was so shocked they approved me.

But that was my experience with my doc.

DianeSav reacted to Bndtoslv in Any Band to Sleeve Success Stories Out There?!?
So this is my opinion for what it is worth. I am almost 6 weeks out down almost 25lbs. The band wasn't easy for me but I lost 100% of my excess weigh in about 10 months. This isn't easy either. I still need to watch what I eat and follow the diet but all of the awful things about the band like the vomiting are absolutely gone for me. I have tolerated everything with no problem, never once had a problem. If I eat too much I am uncomfortable but that is it.
You are going to find success and failures in any of these surgeries. It is going to be what you make it and nothing more or less. good luck!
