Protien Shakes??
I am currently looking for the right protien shake for me..... I have only tired one and it was TERRIBLE. So I thought I would ask you guys what you have found. I like the sweet stuff that makes me think Im drinking a milkshake. Im not much for choking down something that is nasty. Right now I am drinking slim fast and I love them but they only have 10 grams of protien rather than the 25 or so you get from a protien shake. What have you guys found? Banded Sept 2, 2009

We will see how that goes when I come off of clear liquids on sunday. I am feeling MUCH better today. had a hard time with the gas pains but like she said before it will be well worth it in the end. Ive lost 6lbs since tuesday and 18lbs total! So Im really happy about that!!!!

Sharp pains in the rib area??
I agree that I would not take an I dont know answer from your PCP.....but your lap band doc is prob going to say it is gas pain. Your right it would be odd to have gas pain 2 weeks out but not impossible. Also it could be some sort of pain due to where your port is but if it is not near your port then you can rule that out as well. (the port should also be attached to your abdomen wall not your costocartilage (or muscles over your ribs bc they are thin muscles) Again not impossible for your doc to have done that for some reason. Refered pain from organs on the left is your spleen but unless you have had problems with that before you can rule that out as well...... Another avenue that is prob important to look at is a rib out of place. Question-does breathing make the pain more noticeable/worst/ or relieve it? Most people dont think of this because this is not what an M.D does. Bc of the surgery your body has been pushed around and the gas that your rib cage is not used to can push a rib ever so slightly out of place and cause an unbelievable pain. This can be relieved by a visit to a chiropractor usually with one adjustment with instant relief of pain. Just thought I would give you some things to think about!!

St. Louis People
Hey everyone! Im suprised too that there are not more people! Esp since stl is such a big city! So I have a thought and I wanted to see what kind of response I get to it. I am currently in school to be a Dr. of Chiropractic. I work in a clinic is South County. WELL..... I was thinking I would like to start a support group. That met like once a week or every two weeks. I mentioned about the clinic bc I think they would be happy to host us there in the evenings. And we would have a doctor on staff to answer any questions. He is not to familar with band surgery but he could be there for any other questions about the body and fitness and the way our bodies respond (I would be able to do the same). I think this would be a great way for us to get together share works and dont works stories and keep eachother motivated! I am already a part of a core excercise swiss ball class that happens there every other Wed. if anyone would be intrested in that maybe we could attach it to that class or something. Just brainstorming right now and looking for everyones feedback! Talk to yall soon!

( i was like oh man i must look worst than i thought haha) I am having the surgery done in North Carolina because that is where my family is. I only live in St. Louis to go to school. I go to Logan College of Chiropractic (you may have heard of it) but Im doing all my fills and post op stuff in St. louis. Im doing it with st. peters surgical weightloss center...so far they seem awesome!

Lap Band Patients in Their 20's
Hi everyone! Im 23 and am having my surgery sept. 2 (so mia me and you are right in there together) we will have to keep in touch for our questions and progress!!! I dont have to do anything as far is pre op is concerned..... I feel weird about that because everyone else does but I have been doing stuff anyway. Ive lost 15 lbs so far! but Im stuck at 15 so Im excited about next wed!!! Ive have only told my mom dad and my sister. I havent even told the guy Im seeing because Im scared he will tell someone if we break up.....I know that sounds bad but I live in a small town and once its out its out. I go to school in st. louis but am from NC so I only get to go home every four months and I know if Im losing weight quickly and ppl only see me every once in a while it will look dramatic anyway and they will be asking questions so Im just staying as DL as possible! I cant wait to see how this goes for all of us!

Diagnosed with Gallstones 5 months post-op....WTH??
Hi everyone! Just wanted to help you guys out with some things about the gallbladder.... I havent had surgery yet (sept 2!!!!) or had issues with my gallbladder but I am in medical school so this is what I know! There are lots of situations after extreme weightloss where people have to have their gallbladder taken out. When you are eating terrible your gallbladder is taking care of all of the fat that is piling up in your system. Then you cut fat almost completley out of your diet and your gallbladder no longer has to work. So you get that build up and it becomes almost stagnant if you will. This is why it is good for you to have healthy fats in your diet such olive oil, beans and nuts! Keeps your gallbladder working at a healthy rate. ALSO when it comes to gallbladder people are getting them taken out at a very rapid weight when it is not always nescessary. Only about 10 percent of people with gallbladder issues actually need them taken out. If you get your diet working right adding those healthy fats lots of times he gallbladder takes care of itself (the body was meant to heal itself) And for those of you who might think you have symptoms..... there is a stabbing pain that usually referes thru your sternum (almost) and more importantly your right shoulder blade. It comes mostly after a heavy fat meal or alcohol. Esp. if you have been eating very little fat and then you load up on some fat! So talk to your doc about some alternative things you can do before you jump into surgery! Like I said most of it can be done naturally with out surgery! Good luck everyone!!!!

Hiatal Hernia repair
hey everyone! I havent had the surgery yet (sept 2) but I am in Medical school so just wanted to help out! everyone did a good job of explaining what a hiatal hernia is. A hernia occurs when one part of the body protrudes through a gap or opening into another part. A hiatal hernia forms at the opening in your diaphragm where your food pipe (esophagus) joins your stomach. Part of the stomach pushes through this opening causing a hiatal hernia. This usually causes nothing more than heart burn.... but it can be BAD heart burn. This is because the food and acid from the stomach are allowed to go back into your esophagus. So for those of you with no symptoms it wasnt affecting your body and would not have been discovered with out lapband. But great for those of you who got it fixed because you can avoid serious heart burn or GERD (gastro esophageal refulx disease) that can cause long lasting problems in your esophagus!

September 2009 Band Date
Hi everyone! Im so glad this got started! My surgery date is Sept. 2! I found out at the beginning of August I got approved. And like many of you guys I took it on myself to go ahead and start working out and eating right. I had a few moments where I thought I can do it myself and I lost 13 pounds. Then I went on Vacation and finals for school started and I managed to gain most of it back much much quicker than it took to lose it. That settled it for me...NO MORE GAMES IM GOING ALL OUT THIS TIME!! I actually do not have any type of pre op diet but I am going to continue to try to do better and work out! Good Luck everyone keep me updated!

What about Alcohol???
I dont drink a lot but Im young so I still enjoy going out from time to time on the weekends. I know its empty calories! But is anyone drinking? Have you been able to drink beer?

Liver diet? Should I be doing that?
The only rules my doc said were not to eat or drink anything after midnight the day before surgery. What if he gets in there and cant get past my liver? I weight 265 (down from 276!) I had really good results with my blood work they said everything was perfect. What is the liver diet so maybe I can do some sort of that just to make sure?????

Help with insurance! And the required physican guided before hand
The insurance people called me today and told me that my insurance required I do a physican guided weightloss or have done a physican guided weight loss. Well I have been to everyone under the sun. LA weight loss, Weight watchers, Beverly hills weight loss. LA weight loss became pure weight loss then shut down that was my most recent attempt and I can't get my records from that anymore. Was there anyone who had a way around that or got a physican to sign off or used another doc. Anything that would help me get them proof that I have tried all of those things?????? Any ideas welcome!
