  1. I am so excited for you, and to do it as a couple that is great support! less temptation . so how was the consult conducted? I want the details!
  2. It will only take me a little over an hour to get there vs the 3 hours it took to get to the other group I started with. I have my consult and seminar on the same day. Are you going this tomorrow or next Wed? Lots of people to see on one appt , that is good actually so they are getting good information. my last consult with the other office lasted all of ten min with the dr and the psych eval entailed the so called psychologist talking to me literally 5 min writing a couple of notes. I told him I wasn't crazy and that was about it!!!! What a joke it was. My dietician talked to me once on the phone and emailed me some guidelines and sent me a questioniare once a month to fill out. that was about it. joke too! So I am glad for the 3 hrs. I have lost almost 14 lb trying to inact the guidelines, for a month now I have subsituted a Protein shake for one meal. I have super increased my Water intake and walk and bike ride a little. When faced with a cake I take a bite then leave the room LOL shocking my husband . smaller plate, one serving then put the plate immediately in the sink and leave the kitchen til the kids clear the table. my portion sizes are not right yet. baby steps. I am glad that the bit I have lost I will not gain back, hoping to have surgery before I fall on my face! usually I can make it 3-4 on a diet or program then crash and burn. All it takes is one night at a buffet or the wrong addicting food. for me it is fried.
  3. Hey, I am going there next Wed Sept 2..... I am excited too. Are you going to see Dr Horgan?
  4. I don't know. I have Aetna insurance and since my first consultation. back in May it has been 4 months, I had a 3 month nutritional consultation hold per insurance. Now that I have switched surgeons I guess that now holds me back an extra month. I have a new consult Sept 2nd but all my tests are done. I would say realistically if you have the holds you are looking at 4-4.5 months. Self Pay I would guess under 2 months. Depends on testing and scheduling
  5. I was a lacto vegan for 3 yrs about 16 yrs ago. I aspire to return to that life style. I felt the best ever. My goal is to return to that diet. I am hoping with the restriction I will NOT be able to tolerate meat.... he he he. being married to a major meat eater and with kids it is tough to go back.....
  6. I was sedated... don't know a thing. no sore throat later either.
  7. I have heard good things about him. A friend of mine used him for gastric bypass. Staff can be flaky but he is very good. I think they have changed some of the staff out so it should be great. He also has a support group I believe, but double check.
  8. I would say they probably do not fatten the liver HOWEVER the liver is the bodys filter so it is dealing with the chemical sugar subsitute. That is a noticed problem for some people
  9. Funny thing about my husbands lectures is he is not the skinny guy, talks to me about cooking healthier, not bringing junk home etc..... I NEVER BRING THE JUNK HOME! EVER. I keep cleaning out the cabinets to set the arrow straight again. He lectures about everything. I want to join a Tai Chi class with a friend, he wants me to join Arobics.... I hate Arobics, I never liked it even when I was normal. I lack some serious coordination, I don't dance either LOL , I love riding my bike, walking, weights, I am thinking I would like an elliptical.... he is telling me I should run. Well my joints can't handle the pavement! It is just something I have to do on my own and in my own way and not have the nagging. So I guess he can eat his ben and jerrys and sit on the couch with his clicker LOL
  10. I am thirsty a lot too. I have been taking in more than the required 6-8 of Water as well as decafe coffee and teas. water is actually my only concern. I LOVE TO CHUG water and I love to use straws.... both are things I will not be able to do after being banded. I know I can follow the program with very little cheating if any. Accountability and vomiting etc will keep me on the path! That is why I want to be banded. I feel weird being concerned about fluids LOL
  11. mine is like that too. Lectures about everything. you need to exercise , stick with it etc, LOL then he brings home the junk food! Every thing he lectures. My 11 rolls her eyes. She said Mom you talk to me all dad does is lecture!
  12. thanks for your support...... you know it is a life time thing and I want to succeed so I need to be comfortable and get the after care. I will got to www.lapbandsandiego.com and see Dr Horgan. I am much happier with how I have been treated.
  13. I think you are talking to me? I started with a large group that has satelite offices , many surgeons etc... boasting to have the most experience etc. After my first visit the little voice in my gut told me mmmmmmm something is not right, but I wanted to do this. so I proceeded to the preop tests, more red flags, and as I called for testing results etc or to ask questions I was calling a call center, lots of chatter in the background talking to people who could not answer my questions, could not contact the person I wanted to contact, call back requests not answered, promises to call by someone on a certian day never happened etc... basically shotty service if you will. Made me more nervous.... I am not one to whine or need a lot of attention but if I do call I do expect to be helped in a timely manner. So basically I found an individual dr (well known and accomplished) who has a knowledgable staff who answers the phone and follows through. So now I am in a fight trying to secure my records from the first office and for some reason they can't seem to find 2 componets.... hummm interesting they faxed me piece by piece over a weeks time. I just don't trust them to cut me open and then follow up with me and this is a long / lifetime commitment and I need to be comfortable knowing I have a competent dr and staff. Bottom line if your gut speaks to you listen unless it says it wants an ice cream sundae LOL If something doesn't seem right it most likely is not! RUN FOR YOU LIFE!
  14. Isopure natural vanilla has 50 grams of protein. talk about justification of coffee..... LOLOLOL sometimes I used instant coffee to add to the Isopure chocolate to make a mocha too. depends on the mood ;o)
  15. Do they give you an actual psych test or just meet with you? Nutritional handouts? Something tangible to take home?
  16. So true, and If you get through the first 3 days no cheating the cravings and the hunger typically subside. Keep yourself well hydrated. You will be OK. remember this is the turning point for the rest of your life. This too shall pass. Imagine how you will feel 50lb from now. Great way to jumpstart your new life!!!!!! Hang in there!
  17. I just threw some ice coffee(in blender cup) with a bit of milk and 2 scoops of vanilla isopure.... it was really good. add the ice after you mix it up.... tasted as good as a $4 iced drink at a coffee shop! ( I used to own one ;o) mmmmmmmm coffee I am ON IT! (it was decaf by the way)
  18. drink lots of Fluid... and keep peeing LOL maybe if you have a couple of sugary drinks it will help the feeling subside a bit I know it should be sugar free but it may help. or a clear liquid Protein drink I have fasted many I know how you feel!
  19. SanDiegoKate, I considered the surgeon you went with too, it was a toss up between the 2 actually. Came down to insurance, both accept mine but one is a preferred provider. I think they are both great drs. I think your right about the way the consult is. I am in the process of getting my records from the other dr... like pulling teeth. I have still the initial consult, psych eval, and the ekg to collect I have gotten the endoscopy, bloodwork , and abdomen ultrasound from them and I contacted the nutritionalist they contracted and got my reports of the 3 months from her directly.
  20. Has anyone had a consult with Dr Horgan at UCSD in La Jolla. What is his consultation time made up of since it is 2.5 hours long? The seminar is separate where all the weightloss surgeries options are explained. I have never been to anyone that has such a long consult appt time. thanks
  21. weight watchers fudge bars are 100 calories I think and they taste amazing.
  22. If I could get ahold of someone who "matters" that would be great! That is part of my concern. I asked to speak to someone in medical records.... they put me on hold 12 min and I hung up and called back... different person answered... and told me that they are difficult to get a hold of. I asked for the person in charge... can't get one of those either. My coordinator? can't get that person either. No direct lines to call ... so I faxed my request to the main fax number as that is all they offer..... left a voice mail for medical records. I just pray someone calls me back. I honestly don't think if I went there I would be able to pick them up. God only knows where they are. 11 locations a call center.... ugh..... this is getting crazy. I just hope someone calls me back. I will fax and call everyday but I am not sure that will help.
  23. Have any of you changed surgeons part way through? I have done all the preop testing and nutritional requirement through one group.... HOWEVER they are NOT meeting my needs and very impersonal and 2.5 hours away. They have multiple surgeons so I don't know who will be doing my surgery, and anyone could do my fills... I have just had this bad feeling in my gut. I want to get this done and the allure to them was the one stop shopping as far as pre-op etc. Now ..... do I want them doing the surgery? I can't get a hold of a knowledgeable person on the phone when I call it is simply a call center. I get tossed around from line to line, leave messages that don't get returned. Now I have found an office that has 2 surgeons and a predictable staff, who by the way have been WONDERFUL on the phone addressing my concerns and answering any questions, they call me when they promise. I am much more comfortable knowing that if ANYTHING goes wrong or I have a complication I will be assisted ASAP. I believe I will have wonderful after care with them. All the information is readily available concerning all the staff involved. Unlike the other group. My big question is how do I get the BAND MILL to release my records in a timely manner? I have an appt with the new office in one month. I will be faxing both offices my record release forms on Monday. I am afraid they will drag their feet, and my preop tests may have to be repeated and I am sure my insurance will not want to pay again. Has anyone done this???? thanks in advance for any insight.
