  1. It usually takes some time before you start losing with a lap band because you have to wait to get enough fills put in... With bypass you lose weight at first but then it slows down (it is slower for us with a revision). You need to remember it's just a tool. You will not be successful unless you have good choices in food and exercise. It is easy to get full on lower calorie foods and not eat much, that is the plus! I love sweets (ice cream) but it makes me feel horrible (headache, tiredness, dumping) so I choose not to eat them or foods with high fats. If I do eat the higher calorie foods the weight stays on. It will work but it will be up to you. You are not a failure! Dig deep and find your determination.
  2. Everyone is nervous before surgery and it is normal. Try to stay positive!! It will be alright and so much better (first weeks are the most difficult but you can do this).
  3. My experience with pain on left side was the pain actually where they do most the work doing the bypass. Heat was used in hospital and helped at home. Pain did last for about 10 days... Be sure you do not pick up something too heavy for at least 6 weeks - 15 pounds max. Or there is no infection (fever). Hang in there!

    So disappointed :'(

If you could not tolerate it (everything got stuck) that is a good reason to have the band removed! Good luck on appeal!

    Things they don't tell you

Crap is an aweful color due to iron supplement ????. Gas X is my friend!
  7. I had lap band slipped twice and had it removed in May, gained back to my original weight and went through gastric bypass in December with no complications and so far I am down 35 pounds. You can expect about a pound a week weight-loss after the first month. Only spent one night in the hospital and two weeks at home but I have a sedentary job. Good luck it is soooo much better then the band.
  8. I think Bypass is so much better! I love only eating a small amount and no issues except if I eat rice or dry meats. Sweets and fats give me a headache and just don't feel good so it's a great deterrent. Yes I can a small piece of chocolate but that's it because any more than that and I will be sorry ????????
  9. Hi there, I had my band in 2009 and it slipped twice. I had a removed in May and waited till December to have gastric bypass. I've lost 35 pounds since. I spent one night in the hospital I went back to work after two weeks but I have a sedentary job too. I will say I was low on energy for another week so perhaps I should've taken the third week off. I'm very happy I've made the decision. Much easier then I slipped band and no Gerd. I wish the weight-loss was faster but they did say once you've had a band it is slower than if you just had a bypass to begin with... To me pretty much the recovery time was two months total before I was back to eating normal foods (raw vegetables). The only thing I struggle with his rice and dry meats. Good luck in your journey!

    The scoop on poop

Miralax does not deplete the body of any nutrients. I had a few doctors tell me it is safe including my RYN doc. I am 3 months post op and use it often.
  11. @ marieze. Other than the gallbladder surgery I have been through the same thing (including gaining lots of weight in a few months) most likely with the same doctor here in Oregon. I am now gone through bypass eight weeks out and it's been the best thing I've ever done. hang in there. I believe she is the best surgeon around she knows what she's doing! For me I did not have to go through all the classes again but I did have to do pre op appt and blood draw and three days of liquids before surgery. I spent one night in the hospital and be sure to get antinausea medication when you get released.

    Hyperactive Bowel sounds

It is normal - walking around and moving is the best thing you can do at this point. later it will depend on what you eat but it got much better for me. I do have Gas-X pills and use them often especially if I eat something at lunch and have to walk into an afternoon meeting. All of this will get better as it heals and is able to tolerate foods again. I am 8 weeks postop and it's been so wonderful. Good luck and follow the post op diet!!
  13. Just want to wish you the best surgery. Be positive and remember this is just a tool...
  14. For me a few close friends that love me without judgment and one of my family members - other than that nobody. It is your journey, do what is comfortable for you!!
