  1. Yes, it's great to have friends to go with it together.. especially with us being the same starting weight, it will be interesting to see if our weight comes off in a similar time frame... look forward to talking more with you.

    Is it safe to...

we were told in our support group, that once you're healed (6 weeks or so) that you are ok to do any exercise. The only thing you might feel is some pulling at the port, but you should ask your surgeon for certain.

Slow & steady, but I want it RIGHT NOW!

i understand your frustration and am right there with you... i was "only" 213 to begin with and i'm very muscular so the weight is very slow in coming off with me too. I talk to another woman who had the surgery the week before me and she's lost almost 50 lbs or so and i'm still around 15-20 lbs total lose (including pre op diet). i get frustrated and have RNY envy all the time, but i just have to keep hoping that once i get my fills, and hit my sweet spot, that I will lose 2lbs a week. My nutritionist said that i may only lose 1/2lb a week... that's REALLY frustrating. i struggle with that realization and it's hard for me to do good cuz i'm not seeing much of anything either. But we just have to keep looking towards the future and hope that soon we'll be at our sweet spots and we'll see the results we want. it's like a pregnant person, those 9 months may feel like forever but once that baby is born, they realize how quickly it went... it will be that way with our weight loss too... in 52 weeks, we'll look back and be amazed at how quickly the time went!

    Time off/Returning to Work

i was off for 3 weeks, but my company has paid short term disability for employees who have been with the company for more than 5 years. Theres NO way i could have gone back to work in just a few days. Although i wasn't in a lot of pain or anything, I was EXHAUSTED. I went to church 2 days after surgery and needed a 3 hours nap after sitting up for 2 hours. people can do it, but you might be really tired. just be careful.
  11. Thanks for this posting. These are the very things i was talking to my nutritionist about and was saying that they need to be talked about at a support group. It's great to have someone who's out a year and has lost all their weight, but they forget the struggles the first few weeks out. I'm 5 weeks out. She thought that was a great idea and called and asked me if i would be willing to speak at the June support group. I'm super excited!

Is grazing a big no, no or yes

as long as you're eating the right things and keeping a journal of how much you're eating, then it's the right thing because you're constantly fueling your metabolism. My nutritionist said that's my problem, is that i was only eating once or twice a day with 10 hours or so between meals. She said when you eat like i do (or did - i'm trying), your body goes into starvation mode. she said naturally thin and sucess stories on the band are people who eat 5 or 6 times a day -- eating the right, healthy things. just be sure to make good choices with your Snacks. My only concern is, if you're grazing, when are you getting your liquids in, since we're not supposed to drink for an hour or more after we eat....

    someone please help me

I agree with everyone else on here, try not to beat yourself up becuase that will only demotivate you. Does your surgeons office or any other weight loss clinic in your area offer an Emotional Eating class? It might help if you know why you want to overeat. It's a daily struggle and we're all in the same boat or else we wouldn't be on this website! :cool2:

    I am STARVING

i was banded March 30th and don't have my first fill until May 21st! my nutritionist told me that when i'm hungry to drink a Protein shake... that helps fill you up a lot. Another thing that helps me when i'm hungry is to make protein pudding... scoop of Protein Powder, 8 oz of skim milk and 1/2 packet of sugar free fat free pudding. It's thicker so i get full faster. but if you're hungry, you really need to up your Protein Drink intake. it helps.

    Is it possible....???

i spent the night in the hospital when i had surgery too, but mainly i slept. The biggest obstacle you will have is that you will be tired after sitting for a couple of hours. It will be possible for you to go, just realize that afterwards you will be exhausted... but it will be worth it to see your friend married. You'll be fine! go for it! :-)

    Frustrated

i feel and felt the same frustrations as you. I know in theory that 1-2lbs a week is good and in 50 weeks, i'll be estatic if i'm down 50 lbs, i just wish i was on week 30 instead of week 4, but my nutritionist said much of the same things everyone else is saying on here.. starvation mode and the like.. she also told me to weigh myself once a week and measure myself once a week. So on sunday i weighed myself and i was only down about a lb but when i measured my waist, i was down 3 1/2 inches... that was HUGE to me. i'm frustrated along with you, but i also know that i feel better and have only had to take insulin 6 times since surgery instead of 6 times a day! think of it like freshman year in college... feels like you'll never graduate, but after the 4 years and you graduate, you look back and realize how quickly it went. Don't lose heart... keep up the fight and make good choices!
  17. How are you doing?

  18. wow... 35lbs is great... i've only lost about 15... that's frustrating to me. but i know it will come slowly but surely! keep going! you're doing great!

My mother's mouth is what needs to be banded.

my mom did the same thing.. she didn't have the surgery, but when i finally told her i was having it, i told her that i'm not telling anyone because it's my business... so about 3 weeks later i get an email from a couple of my aunts and a 'get well soon' card in the mail from her husband's mother... i called and was like MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM... .it was supposed to be a secret and asked who else she told and she was like "only a couple people, the girls i have coffee with and the prayer group and a couple family members"... did i mention she has 12 brothers and sisters... but i realized that she loves me and was scared/proud and all those other emotions that crazy parents have for us and just had to laugh.
  20. hi nancy, thanks for your message... i was on pre-op for 2 weeks and lost 6 lbs and i've lost 7 or 8 since surgery... my ticker says differently because my scale at home got my hopes up.

the nutritionist at the weight loss clinic told me it could be a number of things working against me right now, 1, i'm diabetic and until my blood sugars get leveled my body is producing a lot of insulin and that stores itself in fat and doesn't like to give it up.

    2. i am not a consistent eater... here it is almost 2 pm on saturday and all i've had to day is 20 oz of decaf coffee. she said i need to eat more consistently because my body is in starvation mode and thinks i'm not going to feed it.

    3. i'm very muscular and it's alwasy been hard for me to lose weight.. .she said i may only see 1/2 lb to a 1lb a week.

i'm really ok with that, i'm just wishing i were 30 weeks out instead of 3. but it will come with time. thanks again... keep in touch. steph

  21. i hope you guys are all right.... i was banded 3/30 and i'm starting to get discouraged. i feel hungry more now and less satisfied with what is on my "ok to eat" list. the really sad thing is that i struggle with cheating everyday now... at first it was great, i wasn't hungry, didn't even think about food, now i just want to eat a lot of something. i don't have cravings per se, but i just want to eat... i usually don't, but i'm starting to doubt if i'll be successful. did anyone feel this way and how did you 'get over it' or motivate yourself? thanks.
  22. i'm 2 weeks out from surgery... i really really want a drink... how long did everyone wait til they started drinking again?
