    P90X2

    Anyone ever TRY P90X.....................just curious!
  2. I am in Taekwondo (ATA) --- joined just AFTER my surgery...........and am now a 1st degree black belt. I have never told anyone at the ATA that I have a LB --- I have never had an issue with my port while doing ATA or kickboxing. Sometimes I have issues with my port interfering with crunches/sit-ups........depending on where my shirt/shorts are --- the tighter the compression.....the more issues I have with my port -- but the issues have never been that bad where I had to stop what I was doing for very long --- Hope that helps!

Co-Worker Wants To Have Lap Band

With RNY if you eat something you shouldn't.............it immediatrly DUMPS from your system. Some people with LB can each ice cream, mashed potatoes and other items.....and learn how to eat it and NOT get the food stuck in the pouch............and in the long run they don't loose weight. So some people that KNOW they have a really really poor will power - and think they will "cheat the band" end up choosing RNY............as that can change the behavior............. And the misery you mention -- can be tolerable for some people --- they think "better to regurgatate than to let it go through"................

Co-Worker Wants To Have Lap Band

Here is an idea ---- suggest to her to look into RNY versus the lapband! I had a co-worker very similar -- and she decided the RNY was a better choice for her and she IS doing VERY WELL with it!!!

Who Have You Told You Were Banded?

HappyMEE --- you should get in a better frame of mind... If you are setting yourself up to NOT LOSE any weight...........it means you haven't used the LB as a tool..... In addtiion to the LB surgery, you need to change how/what you eat and also get into an exercise program.... I had my surgery 3 years ago - and can not imagine someone having it and NOT losing weight--- it IS difficult --- the weight did not come off easily -- and it doesn't STAY OFF easily - I still struggle EVERY DAY with eating. I am NOT hungry --- I eat because i LIKE TO EAT!!!! I have seen people lose 100 lbs after LB surgery -- and now they have gained it all back --- because they have learned how to eat what they want...... Set yourself up to do well -- succeed!!!! It takes lots of effort and work --- YOU CAN DO IT!!! Good Luck! and p,s. I told EVERYONE --- so that I could be held accountable. I felt if I did NOT tell people --- then I wouldn't have to be worried about getting caught eating food........etc. I needed help to lose weight - the LB was one tool, having others watch and see was another.........i enjoyed the "negative Nelly's" -- they motivated me to do the right thing!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!
  6. YOU will get used to the low to no carbs............. PRIOR to my LB I was a carb lover!!! now I get physically sick if I eat carbs.......haven't had any Pasta in three years! I have had a little rice, a few spoons of mashed potatoes. NO bagels, donuts, etc.................and absolutely NO pizza dough! Good Luck!!!

    Tips For Starting Exercise

Hello everyone -- I had lapband surgery THREE years ago!!! I can't believe it has been that long. As far as exercise -- what did it for me was finding something that had a LIVE PERSON that was sincere in helping ME with my exercise goals! For me - it was Taekwondo/Karate - there was a local ATA school (American Taekwondo Association) close to my home. My young daughter joined - and then 6 months later I joined, first I only did the kickboxing classes and then a few months later joined the adult karate classses. I worked out 5-6 days a week there -- when I missed a class the owner/instructor called me .... yes HE called ME! and asked if everything was okay.... having someone for me to be accountable increased my motivation to keep going....and I learned to like it. The owner already had my money -- so he had no business reason to contact me ...except that he trully cared about me reaching my goals. So find a gym, class, studio. school....something that you can find SOMEONE that will care about you. If you have the money - get a personal trainier for a couple months to kick start you. It WAS the exercise that helped be drop pant sizes.......my goal was always the size of my clothes not the pounds.....I went from a size 22 to now a size 8.....it took me a long time......and I still SEE MYSELF AS OVERWEIGHT!!! but knowing that I am in a size 8 --- solidifies that I am fine!!! GOOD LUCK to everyone -- YOU CAN DO IT!!!
  9. Welcome Back!! I too had fallen off and not been on this forum ------- but recently started to realize I needed to get back and start communicating with other bandsters!!! I am 15 pounds from my goal weight --- happy where I am now -- but would LOVE to get to that goal even more!! I exercise regularly and getting ready for the "Warrior Dash" (look up the Warrior Dash website....you will see it is a CRAZY fun race!!) I am eating around my band -- which is preventing me from losing -- so I need some reinforcement to NOT eat the ice cream and other foods that don't get stopped by the band. Good Luck on your journey!! Hopefully we can help each other some how................
  10. Hello! I was banded April 2009.......so we are somewhat close to being "band buddies". I have another 15pounds to lose to meet my goal weight -- I have NOT gained weight - but I am not losing either. I exercise enough to not gain -- but I am eating around the band - which is preventing me from losing the weight. Let me know you thoughts of how we might be able to help each other to get back on track and start losing again !!! Also - Congratulations on your wedding!!!! How exciting!!!!

I dont want to work out! :(

I know how you feel!! Been there -- done that!! I ended up putting out some extra cash and joined a karate school that had some kickboxing classes -- if I didn't make it to class the instructor/owner CALLED me and asked why I didn't go to class that day. He does it because he wants people to succeeed -- AND because it is HIS business, not just a job. So it has worked out well both ways -- I have continued with karate and kickboxing - and he has gotten a few new students from it. Others have hired "trainers" or have a workout "buddy" -- and they work for some -- I am letting you know what worked for me -- GOOD LUCK!!! Stick with it -- as long as you continue with EXERCISE (not the leisure walks) you will be on the right pathway!!!

    dumb

From looking at your information - it appears you have been recently banded. I felt the SAME WAY for almost a year after being banded....i needed to use my will power and effort ......... and did NOT seem fair!! But now I have a good amount of Fluid in my band - and can NOT eat alot of food.....so less mental will power is needed to succeed. However, i still need to use the will power when it comes to poor choices -- -ice cream can be my downfall....it simply flows right through the banded area. So you are right --- people can get banded and NOT LOSE ANY WEIGHT.............it depends on the attitude and WILL to want to actually make a change. GOOD LUCK in your journey -- hope you continue to have weight loss success!!
  13. The nausea after surgey is due to the anesthesia (the medicine that knocks you out!). I was felt nausea for the 1st 24 hours after surgery.... a couple of good ones -- and I got scared - but my doctor said everything was fine. Good Luck -

9 months and still vomiting daily

It sounds like it is being caused because you might not be chewing your food well enough -- and eating too fast! SLOW DOWN -- chew your food alot. The long term effects is BULIMIA.....not a good thing. My doctor has told me that she had a patient that was continually throwing up (regurgitating...) her food. And eventually it ruined her esophagus they had to take out the band - and part of her esophagus..........so not a happy ending. Try and get it under control with your eating habits - and still I would mention/talk to your doctor about it. hope this helps.

    Filled with regret....

Hi There! I was banded two years ago - and went through some of what you are now. The fluids -- I was told to go ahead and drink ALL I WANTED and felt like I could, so I did! I did drink lot's of Protein shakes - for me the pre-packaged Protein Shakes from costco were the best. The doctors, nutritionists and other patients said there will come a time when you CAN NOT drink at meals - it isn't that you 'shouldn't' but that you can't -- when you eat solids it will fill up you little pouch area above the band. If you drink fluids with it or immediately after eating - the Fluid has no where to go and may cause projectile regurgitation (or PB, productive burping). In the first 6-9 months after my surgery - I was able to eat anything I wanted and in any quanitity. But once I started to get restriction - that is when all the rules started to come in to play for me. There isn't much I can't tolerate now (that I am at my "sweeet spot") - however I CHOOSE not to eat , breads/pasta/rice/potatoe type foods -- as it just fills me up too quickly and I am still hungry. i stick to Proteins and some veggies and fruits. Hope this helps --
  16. Hello Everyone - I have been banded for 2 years -------- and have GOOD RESTRICTION now..........but it has taken a long long time for me. I have a surgeon that believes in SMALL fills with a lot of space in between -- it was HORRIBLE. I could eat and eat and eat. NO restriction what so ever. The doctor and nurtitionist kept telling me to use my will power --- I would say to mysefl - IF I HAD WILL POWER, I WOULD NOT HAD BEEN FAT!!! Instead of using will power - mind you I did TRY to eat less - I started an INTENSE exercise routine... signed up for 2 years at the local ATA karate school...so I took TaeKwonDo lessons, kickboxing AND resistance band training. So I did loose weight - but more so I lost inches and dropped pant sizes. Finally about a year after my surgey I got some restriction. WOW - you WILL notice the feeling when you get FULL. I had NEVER "felt full" after eating tons of food. Once you have restriction -- all those rules they tell you about -- you NEED to follow them. otherwise you will get "stuck" and have often "PB" episodes, etc. I hate to say it (because I hated to hear this when I was in your shoes) - be patient - you WILL get restriction...and when you do --- WOW it will all be worth it! Hope this helps!

    Lazy eating when sleep deprived

have some "good" foods stocked in your house for these types of situations.... I know it doesn't help you now!! But here are some other suggestions that may help you today - DRINK fluids --- LOTS and LOTS of fluids. Water, flavored water, ice tea, etc STAY AWAY FROM CARBONATION ------- (soda pop) and try and limit caffiene. Got any Jello in the house? I usually can find a box or two hidden back in the cupboards --- or some pudding? And forget about a sandwich -- that isn't good for you to eat anyway (in MY and my DR opinion). Just eat the plain meat or Peanut Butter. Hope it is helpful - and GOOD LUCK to you and your daughter!

    What does stuck feel like?

Well......... the smart-alec answer is ... YOU WILL KNOW IT WHEN YOU GET IT! But, to be more friendly - it feels like REALLY REALLY bad heartburn - it can be very very painful. And to answer how long it will last --- depends on you - and your body - and what it is. Many times food will get "stuck" because it was not chewed enough and is too big to go through the band, another reason is that the food was chewed properly - but too much too quickly was consumed and it all got jammed up at the band location. I have heard/read some people say to drink some fluids and the food will "wash right through" but that doesn't work for me. For me, when I drink liquids when something is "STUCK" creates projectile regurgitation (some people refer to it as "PB" or productive burp). If you can handle the pain - the food may work it's way through the band -- BUT if it is a TOO LARGE (not chewed well enough) piece of food -- it has no place to go but back up where it came from. Hope this helps ---

    Please Help me.....

I want some clarification --- You are having the surgery on May 24th and then making the 5 hour drive...on the same date?

    Coughing questions?????

I have the "coughing" also --- especially at night time. It has become more and more frequent - and now I have it during the day at times too. It is starting to hurt my throat and my chest area - I am going to make an appt with the surgeon -- but a little afraid that she will take some Fluid out of the band.

    Traveling with lap band

I have traveled several times since my lapband -- gone through many majoy airports -- never had a problem!
  22. I am a military spouse -- but my DH is Army National Guard now - so he stay home. The last 8 years has been alot of deployments to Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia and now Afghanistan But I wouldn't think that you COULDN'T find a doctor - this procedure is more and more common and more surgeons are getting trained. I am two years out from surgery and now only see my surgeon about every 4-6 months - unless I have a concern. GOOD LUCK!!
  23. Glad to hear that you are feeling better with unfill - Here are my 2 cents - You ate pizza? I am 22 months after surgery and still do not / can not eat pizza. The toppings --- maybe, but def not the crust/dough. Breads, rice, Pasta, potatoes have always been on my NO list -- and whenever I try --- it results in an horrible experience. So try and cut out the carbs --- and stick to the Proteins and veggies/fruits.
  24. Keep working at not eating as much - and get that exercise in your schedule! I am 1 1/2 years post-op and I still crave certain foods. I think I will always be fighting my head hunger --- I can pretty much eat anything I want -- but not as much of it....so that makes it nice. I can not overeat - without it coming back up....which is gross. But remember - there are "slider" foods -- that most people NEVER have problems tolerating. And it is the slider foods that will prevent people from losing weight - because they do NOT get stuck - you may end up overeating and NOT lose weight. Sample slider foods (varies for everyone): mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, ice cream, puddings, yogurt, popcorn, crackers, Cookies, and the list goes on and on....it's okay to have a LITTLE if you have control to STOP....otherwise I do not have any.....sort of like an alcoholic....don't start because it is difficult to stop. Good Luck - and keep this website as a resource -- take a look around the other areas....post op, etc. And remember it really is all about EATING LESS and EXERCISING MORE! The band will help you eat less -- but there are many people who LEARN to eat around the band and they actually gain weight. so be careful and stay focused. Hope this helps -- GOOD LUCK!
  25. Hello - Congrats and continue with doing well on the pre-op....this is a preface to the will power you will need to continue with after the surgery. Some suggestions to keep on the pre-op when you are NOT at work.... what worked for me was to GET AWAY from the house. So if it is nice out - get out to the beach, a park, etc. Someplace that does NOT have easy access to food - so the mall and movies were NO GO for me. Good Luck!
