30 & almost 300 lbs.
Hey Kim, I will be 20-10 in September and started this journey at 327 pounds! I did not have to do the 6 months supervised diet THANK GOD! I did get a good deal of info about having children after, and you will find many ladies on here that are preggo or have had children. From what I have read they just empty the band and then everything works as normal. During my psych eval they told me that many women get who thought they couldnt keep pregnant find it very easy! Good luck on your journey and let me know if I can help you! AMY

What should restriction feel like??
After I got my second fill, I was trying to figure out if I had restriction. I could still eat a pretty full meal. For example, one pork chop, some corn, and half a slice of cornbread. I could still eat at a normal pace. I could eat a sandwich.:w00t: So, I called my doc bc I felt like I needed a third fill. My first fill was 4ccs, my second was 1.5. I went in and shared all my info with my doc and he said it sounded like I hadnt got restriction yet, and he gave me 1cc more. Now my friend, I have restriction! Here is the difference (for me): If I pop a few animal crackers, one popcorn chicken, half a steak fry...it gets stuck. Not only does it get stuck, but it doesnt go down. I either PB or throw it up. I have to eat small bites vs regular bites. If I dont, it gets stuck. When I do eat slow, I can still eat a whole chicken breast with some black Beans, but I am full and dont really crave food for a good amount of time. For example, I ate that for dinner last night around 6 and didnt even think about snacking after. I still can drink Water like normal. I dont have to sip. Things like yogurt dont "feel me up" or keep me full for very longer (slider food). I wouldnt want to be tighter bc I dont think solid food would go down. Does that help at all?

Help Me Get Up Off This Computer Chair!
Hey, you can check out my blog. Its in my signature below. I was banded on Jan 27th, and my first plateau was enough to get me moving. My doc was very honest with me that the band only works if you work it. I didnt want to go through all of this to not lose. SO, I started walking. Now I hate walking. Before the band I would drive two blocks instead of walking it. But, I started walking 1 mile, and then I added half a mile every week. I walk outside. SO, I did my first 5k yesterday. I took 2nd place in my age group! It felt so good. If I can do it, YOU can do it. It helps you feel better mentally! My boss who is an exercise fiend, always has this response when people say they dont have time "Well, you find time for the things you WANT to do dont you?" Thats a good point. Good luck. You can do this. Some is better than none. If you lived in Pensacola you could walk with me! :smile2:

Walmart & Death Bites (aka Popcorn chicken)
Like always, I think you are right (you are very wise in all your posts). I ate a chicken breast tonight off the grill. No problem. Early today though I ate a few animal crackers and...PROBLEM....other times when I am paying more attention, I can eat them just fine. But, I just popped them in my mouth in passing.

Walmart & Death Bites (aka Popcorn chicken)
Oh it totally one. It was the weirdest thing...it was like a mouthful of foam (at least the first one in my car). I had waited too...it had been like 8 hours since I ate. Thanks for all the replies...its so helpful to hear what has gotten others in the same situation.

Walmart & Death Bites (aka Popcorn chicken)
Happy Sunday everyone. I wanted to share my story so maybe others can not experience the same thing. I am on my third fill, 6.5 ccs in a 10-12cc band. I went to Walmart for some groceries. Boyfriend wanted some chicken from the deli. I hadnt eaten since 11am and it was nearly 7pm. So, I figured I would get me some popcorn chicken. Seriously, they are the size of a penny. They come in this cup, with a little flip lid. I thought I would try few on my way to the checkout. Big MISTAKE! I ate 3. I knew I was in trouble. It just sat there. Then it started to hurt. I started to take deep breaths. The sweat started to bead on my forehead. Seriously, the lady in front of the couple in front of me had so much in her cart, that it took two carts to hold the groceries bagged...and they had to call for help. I started to panic. Did I ditch my cart and go throw up in Walmart's bathroom? I ruled that out. I probably stood in line for 10 minutes. Breathing. Sweating. Cursing my stupidity in my head. I checked out and started walking towards the car. At this point I was looking for a place to throw up. Bushes? No, I could make it to my car. I threw the stuff in my trunk, grabbed an empty bag out of my trunk, opened my door, sat down behing my wheel and threw up in the bag. Horrible. I made it home, threw up in the yard. Threw up for a few hours off and on. After this was all said and done, I took a tiny sip of Water...threw that up too! I was really nervous at this point. So, I decided if I woke up on Saturday morning and still couldnt swallow water, I would go to the ER. I woke up fine yesterday. Had yogurt for Breakfast and then Boyfriend and I went out to eat for an early dinner. I had a cup of Soup and some of Traceys hamburger meat. Everything appears to be fine! Lesson? NO POPCORN CHICKEN OR TRYING NEW THINGS IN PUBLIC.

Advice please!!!!!!!!!!
I was 327 when I had surgery. Some docs try to push the gastric bypass, but my doc told me the pros and cons of each. He had no reservations about the band for me except that you can cheat the band and you have to work at it. I still chose the band and love it! Good luck. Keep going to until you feel a doc you feel comfortable with.

Should this bother me???
LOL, aint that the truth If that would have happened to me, I would have thought he recognized I was out working my ass off on my journey to become the hot woman trapped inside! Dont give it much thought. Keep up the good work!

My First 5k
2 months after surgery and 50 pounds lighter, I completed my first 5k and came in second in my age group!
-
Any advice?
I agree with the girls on this one. 5 weeks later you should not just be on liquids...even according to some of the stricter doc diets I have read on here. What did your doc or nutritionist prescribe for your post op diet?

Can you FILL me, I need some help?
Thanks! I worry about my band slipping with the pbing and throwing up as well. I dont think I am too tight though. I am hoping that I just ate to much too quickly. I had chili last night and it went down just fine, as did my yogurt this morning. I can still drink Water at a pretty good pace as well. Good luck with your unfill. Keep us posted.

Can you FILL me, I need some help?
I have heard chicken can be hard for some. I would be so bummed if that was true for me bc I love me some chicken. I think even though i was cutting it up into to small pieces, I ate too many small bites in a hurry. I had chili last night, and boyfriend had let it cook for a really long time...so the Beans were nice and mushie and there ground beef was pretty small. Anyways, I ate about a cup and everything was cool. I stopped when I didnt feel hungry anymore. I am going to keep working on that. Thanks for your help!

Can you FILL me, I need some help?
hey kelly! Welcome fellow bandster (soon to be). There is dictionary on this site somewhere that has the definitions of all these abbreviations But, yes its just like described above. For example, when I ate that bite of sliced peaches I could feel it setting there for about 5 minutes. I couldnt burp, but I felt like I needed to. I always picture this as the food is sitting there blocking the hole. Anyways, It was like the longer I sat there, the worse it got bc my spit/slobber couldnt pass and it was backing up. So, when I PB'd in mister toliet, what came up was slimy foam OOOH gross. So that's that. My blog is the link below. There are lots of blogs out there that are interesting to read and help you get an idea of things to come! Amy

Ever been told "No fill for you!"
You can't say you are only losing 1-2 pounds a week on here silly! BC everyone will tell you that is what we are supposed to be losing! It does feel slow though, especially after the pre and post op diet speed loss. Patience is hard for me too...and I like immediate gratification. I have read several people on here that says their docs wont fill them ahead of schedule. I was filled on march 7th and wasnt supposed to go back in until may 7th for my second fill. I have called twice and been back twice bc I didnt feel my fill was working. My doc said it sounded like I wasnt at restriction yet (after asking me all sorts of questions) and gave my my third fill. Its amazing the difference. My first fill was 4css, my second was 1.5 ccs, and this last one was 1 cc.

Can you FILL me, I need some help?
damn! So I have to stop BEFORE...thats a hard one to learn I would think for those of us who have always had a lifetime of not stopping or pushing away from the table. I guess this is just one of the lessons the band helps you learn. Thanks for your help.
