    NW Pa, anyone?

I would love to enter the Hamot 5K in August. My knees no longer bother me and I have begun run/walking when I am getting my exercise in. I weighed 178 this a.m. (234 on DOS 1/7/09). I went shopping with my daughter and tried on dresses that she said looked awesome on me. That - coming from a 16 y/o meant a lot. I have no regrets even with the occasional wrong food choices that we all know we pay dearly for. Good luck to all.

    been a while

Yes, its been a few weeks since I have updated my blog. I had become very good at taking my good o'l time chewing my food, so much so that I thought I was able to eat more than I thought I should have eaten. In one meal I was able to eat a whole baked potato with chicken/cream of chicken soup on top. More than I ever thought I would be able to eat. Then I went for my second post op appointment on 3/31, at 12 weeks. I have lost 40 lbs and my surgeon gave me a small fill. Since then, I cannot have the same type of meal as the baked potato/chicken, which is fine with me. I am experiencing what I have seen other bloggers post about- not being able to eat solids in the a.m. I will try the warm beverage first and if that does not work, I can be perfectly happy with my sugar free CIB. My sister from OOT will be in for the holiday. I have not seen her since before my surgery. I am anxious to see what she thinks....

    early january banders

new to the forum, banded on 1/7/09, weighed 236 on DOS, weigh 196 on my home scale which is pretty close to my surgeons, who I see next week. I expect he will do another fill as I am having some hunger. i have to be very careful about taking my time with my food, eat too fast and pay dearly. i do not know what the weight loss norms are but I have lost 40% of what I want to lose. I have no regrets and appreciate the need to really think about my food choices instead of shoveling food in my mouth. people are really starting to notice and i feel great.

    lesson learned

I had a terrible 40 minutes today after I ate 1/2 of a meatball too fast. Terrible pain for 40 min and then...it all came back up. My stomach is so sore from puking and I even broke some blood vessels around my eyes. I never want to be there again. I learned a very valuable lesson. I think I am in a comfort level and feel so normal at this point in my recovery that I became complacent and not as careful. Anyone that thinks they don't always have to be on guard and mindful of EVERYTHING that they do r/t eating, in my own experience, is looking for trouble. Hope this posting prevents someone else from the same experiece.

Where did you all get your weight loss tickers and how do you insert them? Sometimes I am technologically challenged.

    10 weeks

I am so happy with my decision to have this done. I am forced to think about what I put into my mouth with every bite. I have made some good and not so good choices and have paid for the not so good. I have only yakked once and will do everything in my power to avoid that situation. My clothes are hanging, my friends are telling me how thin my face and neck look - yeah, I was really targeting those areas - and some have told me I am losing too quickly. I have waited 30 years to lose quickly or however it happens. I stick to the plan but really hate the chewable vitamins and calcium supplements. I use Unjury to help keep my protein intake where it should be. Every day is a learning experience.

    NW Pa, anyone?

I had my surgery in Erie at Hamot with Dr. Ali on 1/7/09. My weight on DOS was 234. Today I weigh 197. I had a very good experience and am ecstatic to be below 200 for the first time since 1984. I have pretty much stuck by the rules/guidelines given to me pre op. The only exception was when I started regular foods I had a painful episode and thought a small amt of water would help. It did not. I have only recently gotten into exercising on a regular basis as we all know what the Erie weather can be like. I am very pleased and can't wait for warmer weather.

newbie to lap band blogs and lap band

It's been awhile since I posted. Successful return to work, they all know. I was hesitant at first to tell them but after more thought, I decided if they knew I would need to tow the line - not that I plan on not following the plan. I get up each morning and I am amazed each day. It has been 28 days and I have lost 25 lbs. I am thrilled. And of course, lost it just where I REALLY wanted - face and boobs. My clothes fit differently and it is all good. Port site still sore but certainly tolerable. I am so glad I had this done although I do still have a funky tase in my mouth, don't know if it is r/t the thrush or changes in body chemistry. Still snowy here and walking outside has been challenging but I will trudge on.

newbie to lap band blogs and lap band

Had my surgery on 01/07/09, did great in the immediate post op period until I got home and then had to deal with Thrush! Yik! Nothing tasted good and then after I got my script filled for it, it started to work and the gross stuff started flaking off my tongue and down the back of my throat. Much better now but I did have an unexpected bout of pain on day 9, I called my doc and he said this occasionally happens after the post op swelling goes down. I am happy that I have lost 14 lbs and am looking forward to continued shedding of pounds. I am not hungry at all but a taco salad sure sounds good right now. I miss the "crunch" factor. Back to work tomorrow, we'll see how that goes. Good luck to all other lap banders!
