    Christmas Cookie Protein shake

    8 oz. milk
1 scoop vanilla Protein Powder (I like Monster Milk)
1 tbsp sugar-free butterscotch pudding powder
1 oz. either pancake Syrup + a generous dash of cinnamon for a cold shake OR 1/8 tsp. maple extract + a generous dash of cinnamon for a hot preparation.

    Optional: Ice, Whipped Cream, embellishments

    Directions:

If making cold: Combine ingredients and mix in the blender.

If making hot: Combine ingredients and mix using a spoon and heat in microwave 2 minutes (check temp before drinking and adjust as needed because microwaves vary!)

    Merry Christmas!

Hello! My name is Stefanie, I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, I'm 46 years old and I am a long-time member who has two grown children...a daughter, 24 and a son, 21 whom I love dearly! My daughter is married to a wonderful young man and I love him and his family, as well. I am an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast who rides a 2013 Ultra Limited. I've ridden my whole life and will never stop riding! I love cycling and swimming, and WANT to be a runner....but I've been saying that for years without much success. LOL I'm hoping that 2014 is the year I become a runner and complete my first triathlon!!! I also love weight-lifting/body building and can be a real gym rat. I look forward to getting to know more of you and learning all I can from you! Y'all have a great week!!!

I love this article...thank you for sharing! I haven't tried the no-flour thing, but I have believed that sugar is the devil for many years now. I think I will look more into flour, as it makes sense since our bodies convert it to sugar.

TexasFire got a reaction from finally on my way in Thoughts On Drinking Through A Straw?
I'm one to advocate common sense. If it is something like diet phases or when to start exercising after surgery, PLEASE know that you must defer to your surgeon's wealth of knowledge and experience!
But drinking through a straw? Naaaawwww! If it doesn't cause problems and you can drink more, that is a great thing! Me personally....I would do that. I've always used a straw with no issues, though. In fact, I wouldn't even consider drinking a Protein shake that uses powdered Protein without a straw. The straw helps sooooo much with the nasty settling that can occur. LOL
Whatever you decide, make sure you get all of your recommended Water and Protein in, or more. It is CRUCIAL to healing and weight loss.

Ok...here we go. A new month....a new year. Time to get off our collective butts and push ourselves a little bit. This isn't about weight loss so much as it's about living/breathing/moving more...feeling better....improving the quality of our life through fitness. Not to mention pushing ourselves to do a little more than we thought we could.
As always....set a goal for yourself. Something that you know will be challenging. State what your goal is....then come back every chance you get to update your progress.
Make your goal something specific and measurable. XXX miles walking/running/cycling/ellipticing/swimming/crossfitting/weightlifting. Or XXX hours working out this month.....XXX times going to the gym this month....whatever you want.
Here's mine....120 miles running and 12,000 meters swimming. Plus I'm doing the pull up challenge every other day, hoping to work my way up to being able to do a pull up sometime soon.
Everybody join in. This is a new year. Exercise and fitness will make you feel better, help you sleep, speed up your metabolism, increase our strength and stamina, lengthen your life....and make you look better naked. Face it, we could all use that.

Calories in/out is just one theory and actually doesn't have a lot of science behind it, despite that people are always saying it. I am convinced that a big reason bariatric surgery works is that it drastically raises Protein and cuts carbs, while increasing the feeling of satiety. That is a lot of mechanisms working together. You can cause your surgery to fail by reducing your protein and increasing your carbs to pre-surgery ratios. In fact that is pretty much the only way to manage to eat a lot of calories with the sleeve.

    Rude.
Why all the sarcasm? You clearly want to separate yourself from the rest of us pigs. Okay fine. Then just simply answer my original question. What made you fat if it was not eating too much?

I think you may be being overly sensitive. I wasn't tearing anyone down. But what you said seemed a little counter intuitive. If you didn't become overweight by over eating, how did it happen? And why have a surgery that makes over eating difficult if over eating was not the problem?
I'm not being non supportive I'm simply puzzled and asking a question.

LOL I'm sure it was a typo. I know I didn't fat by accident!
I know I'm MUCH better off by trying to eliminate all carbs. It's impossible, of course...but by dramatically restricting them, I find I feel soooooo much better. And I am no good for the "just one cookie" thing, either...it turns into "just one MORE cookie" and never ends.

I know people who can run marathons who can barely run a 5k in 30 minutes. Honestly that is an unreasonable expectation in the C25K plan. The beauty is it doesn't matter how fast or slow we run....just that we run.

Before we start January, I have a question, however. As you know, I aspire to be a runner. So would "STICK TO C25K LIKE GLUE" be in the right vein? It's measurable by the phone app, sooooooo.....maybe?

Moon, out of curiosity, when was your surgery and how much have you lost? And no, I do not have wheat issues, I just feel that none of us are qualified to go off on our own for diets when our bad judgement got us here to start with. I don't believe in using our "good judgement" because I doubt many of us have any regarding food. Just IMHO.

Me too. All things in moderation just doesn't work for some of us. Breaking the bonds of addiction to those foods takes hard work and determination but once you detox from their terrible after effects you can feel much better.
After all, you wouldn't tell a cocaine addict to use it in moderation would you?

Well actually RJ the op is not even 4 weeks post op. So right now is not the time for her to eat a balanced diet. Right now is the time to focus on protein and hydration. The rest we can live without during those early stages. Muscle sparing protein is the goal. When you can't take in very much food you don't want to waste precious intake room on empty calories. And that's what whole wheat is.....empty calories. They may be better than white carbs, but by a very narrow margin. They still are not providing any valuable nutrition so why eat them in the early stages post op?
