  1. I have been fairly blessed that the overwhelming desire to eat has not been with me during my two week pre-op diet. Wife made popcorn one night (after asking me) and that was OK, until the leftovers the next morning caught my attention. But, no, I was a good boy. But did ask her to finish it or throw it away. My big dilemma was the headaches and dragging. But, for me in hindsight, it was a combo of the diet, drastic sugar reduction, and dropped all caffeine (coffee). Am glad I did that then as I would not want to add headaches to the post-surgical pains. Keep focused, distract yourself, and, if you're like me, that ketosis breath will eventually overwhelm any food smells that may try to make it to your nose!
  2. Thanks, Maldito..that makes a lot of sense!
  3. Thanks for asking this! I will need some help, too, real soon!
  4. Until the next morning. Will ask if we can forgo that Maybe it is so I don't wet myself during surgery. Maybe. Or there is just a cruel med tech that enjoys inflicting pain.
  5. I wish they did not use a Foley, but they do. *sigh* I feel the pain already...
  6. Had massive headaches the first week of my pre-op liquid. Probably a combo of giving up coffee and sugars plus the massive reduction in food. My surgery is next Monday (Aug 3) and hope that by giving up those things before the surgery I will not have to deal with withdrawal headaches as well. Maybe liquid Tylenol?
  7. One is a nasal gastric to suck stuff out. Then there is the anesthetist/respiratory tubing. Add to that the French Bougie (size 34) going down there. So three. Then five abdominal portals for the surgery. Plus a Foley catheter (oh, fun, fun!). The nasal will stay in until the next morning to pull out any acid and ick that may form. I asked a lot of questions of my surgeon. Can you tell?
  8. I will be doing a barium swallow with a follow up x-ray, not the EGD...thank goodness. My throat will be sore enough with three tubes going down there during the surgery. When I had a EGD test a year ago they completely knocked me out. Gawd, I am such a wimp...
  9. OK..I follow about my poser comment. May have been harsh and unnecessary. For that I apologize. But after all I read, just does not seem feasible. Now, if it is water weight, then maybe so. But two cups of food at a sitting? Must've been a huge French bougie.
  10. My surgery is next Monday. Other than the stock stuff I was told to get (Protein powder, low-fat broth, Snickers bars, and SF jello), are there any other suggestions to be offered? I want to get stocked up before I go in so I do not have to worry about going out. And not just food. Any creature comforts I should consider? I have the belly dancers planned for my arrival back home on Wednesday. Smile, people. Life is good!:001_tongue:
  11. Come on...two cups of solid food two weeks out? That's horse apples. A poser.
  12. Call your doctor! Simple enough...but hard to do. Calling the doctor is tough to do. I am a guy. It's like asking for directions...
  13. You can see my post in general discussions area...about covers it all! But, yes, I had headaches at first, and battling the tireds. But feeling better here on day 11.
  14. And two more: * Forks. What are those? Those little tines are good at mixing up goop from the bottom of my mixing jar, but that's it right now! * People are so apologetic when they find out I am on a liquid diet. "Oh, you poor thing..." They think I am just totally and tragically unable to function. Maybe I can work this into some sympathy things, like mowing my yard, washing my car, going to the store for me...?
  15. Best wishes to you. I hope all goes smoothly and no complications. Prayers your way.
  16. I am so thrilled for you! Good job. For me to make "onederland" would probably require the amputation of one or both legs, so I think I will pass. But I am looking forward to entering "twofer" land!
  17. Cannot give you any advice, but only a congrats. I know how rough it can be to get the medical approvals. Hope the more astute and knowledgeable in here can answer your questions. Good luck.
  18. Good deal on the date, bummer deal on the lay off. I hope that the third time is indeed the charm for you!
  19. I hope that someone has an idea. I take these damn calcium citrate horse pills. Yes, know I can crush them up, but 9 (200 mg each) per day right now. So a chewable would be a blessing. Anyone know of a larger mg amount pill?
  20. Was looking at a local place as well. It has aerobics, tae kwan do, water aerobics, and steam and sauna to complement the normal machines and weights. Plus they have four certified and licensed personal trainers and one is always there wandering the floor. Only $35 a month, which seems good to me. I also like going to places like this for the social benefits. Being fat made me hide; now is the chance to get out once again.
  21. A few little tidbits of observation from my pre-op diet: I never realized there were so many food commercials on TV! I mean, wow. Fast food, restaurants, creamy this, sweet that. I have begun reading more than I have in a long time to avoid commercials. Shopping at the grocery is not as much fun. So many candies, lovely breads, and those evil old lady sample people! "Here, sweetie, you look like you can use a sample of this!" It's like a mine field of potential disasters. Get what I need, keep the head down, and escape. My breath is so bad makes me wonder if my dogs occasionally eating poop has benefits. At least they cannot smell this damn ketosis breath. Was wondering why they were pawing at their noses. As I wrote to a pal, and to quote Jack Nicholson in the movie The Bucket List, "Never trust a fart." Expecting to see a polish sausage from 1997 real soon! I know, gross. But it's the truth. My body is flushing out all kinds of oddities. Probably for the best. If I sleep much more part of my surgery will be mattress removal from my posterior. Just awfully run-down. But being run-down beats the caffeine/sugar/carb withdrawal headaches. More to come! Please add more if you wish.
  22. Oh, yes! Had them too. But after day 5 or so, they passed. Alleve and warm compresses helped me a lot as they were right behind my eyes. Now I am dealing with that wonderful breath that even makes my dogs look and me and wonder. You'll be OK...we got your back!
  23. Added my beginning pics to my personal file. Caution: Not for the weak of heart or those who just ate. :thumbup1:
  24. Hello fellow Yooper Michigander from a troll. Good deal for Monday. You're diet is a lot more relaxed than my pre-surgery diet. I am basically under 800 cals per day, pre-set up packets, for 14 days, then a one day special liquid diet the day before surgery. Then today I had to have a CT scan because they found a blob on my lung in the x-ray, but all is good. I am cleared for surgery. Except it took them four pokes to get the IV started for the procedure. Tough skin! You go! It will happen and we will see you on the other side!
  25. Well, onto day 6 now and much has leveled off. Except for the tiredness. But naps can be soooooo nice!
