Fordgal, Good Luck w/your approval, I have BCBS Basic Federal and they approved me for abdominoplasty and a panniculectomy. I was worried because I see alot of people messaging that insurance almost never approves these procedures especially the abdominoplasty. Well they do, I had no problems whatsoever!! I was approved within 2 weeks. I am also getting a belt lipectomy so I had to pay $1500. Update us on your Journey and again good luck to you!!! My surgery is next week May 19th, I can't wait!!!! -
For me the hardest part of this journey has been getting my mind in tune with my stomach. Even though I can't eat very much, my mind tells me I still want more!!! I am down to 163lbs from 295lbs and let me tell you it is still a daily struggle!!!!!!! The slider foods are the easiest to get down, so you have to stay away from those and exercise is very important. I have struggled with both exercising and eating well!! Good Luck on your journey!!! I have 13lbs to goal!!! I never thought I would get this close to goal, and yes I too would do it again in a heartbeat. I love my band!!!

I don't think your abnormal. I have a 10cc band and it took me about 7.5-8cc to feel restriction. I know someone who has the same band as me and had too much restriction at 3 cc's. It's different for everyone. My band slipped once and I had to have Fluid removed, but everything is now back to normal and I have probably about 8 cc's maybe a little more in my 10cc band and have good restriction. Not too much restriction, I can drink water just fine and even rice!! Good Luck I wouldnt worry if I was you, your doing great. -

Is it too tight?

Back in late December I found out I had a slight slip, and one of my symptoms was coughing at night!! I also would wake up with fluid in my pouch, and it was hard to hold anything down. It was a struggle to even keep water down. After my fill everything was fine, but I kept getting tighter and tighter. My dr. kept unfilling me 1cc at a time, until I finally went in for an UGI and that's were they saw my band had slipped. I got unfilled and now 3 months later everything is back to normal!! Just see your dr. and don't worry whatever it is your dr. will just fix you right back up. Good luck!!!! -

Hi Pursediva, The main problem I was having was reflux, every morning I would wake up with liquid in my pouch. It wouldnt go down, and I would have to throw it up. It just pretty much felt like I was super tight!! My dr. ordered an upper GI, and that is how they found out. My dr. said it is a slight slippage in the back part of my band. The weird thing was that sometimes I could eat and drink just fine, then other times it seemed like I couldnt get anything down. My dr. unfilled me, but after begging she left 3.5 cc's in my band. I felt immediate relief, and have had absolutely no problems ever since. Except for that I have no restriction and have gained back some weight. I go back in 1 1/2 weeks to see if the band is back in place, if it is then I can get a sm. fill if not they will completely unfill and go from there. I asked why this happened and she said it just happens sometimes, she said it is a risk with the band and it happens to 30% of the patients. I still wonder if it is my fault, by wanting to be agressive with my fill!!! I don't know but I'm just gonna follow what they tell me to do, and hope everything works out!! -

Hi Dancingbutterfly, One of the ladies who has been organizing the meetings hurt her leg right now. So we havent been updated of any more meetings. I am also waiting on one, and might try to find another one until we start up again. So you've been banded for 11 months, how are things?? I've been banded since March 6, 2009 everything was going great until about a couple of weeks ago I started having complications and found I had a slight slippage. So I was unfilled, and my eating has been out of control since. Therefore I need to get into some meetings really soon, before I gain all my weight back. I was at a loss of 120 lbs, but have gone up 5lbs since the unfill. Good Luck to you, and if you find out of another meeting I would love to know were!!! -
How fun!!! I would have loved to go, however that is my babies 2nd birthday!! Please count me in for our next meeting and also the next time the texas bandsters meet. I would definately like to attend. How's everything going with the band? Did you get your fill? This week is going to be tough for me, I have a lot less restriction and with Thanksgiving I know I'm going to eat more than I should. I have another fill scheduled for next Thursday. I really want to be in the 170's for New Years!!! Take care, and hope to hear from you soon!!

We are both great. Janice fractured her foot walking and is in a cast for 2 weeks. Saturday we went to a WLS support group that meets the 3rd Saturday of the month in Alvin. it was the first time we went. They meet at a resturant and eat lunch at 1:30 pm. When we went there were 5 people and Janice and I. The people are really nice. We are going to their Christmas get together on Saturday, December 12 at 1;30 pm in Alvin at one of the ladies home. We would love for you to come with us. We have not set up a date for our little get together. We can make a date after Thanksgiving. Would love for us to meet again and there is one more person who wants to come. The group in Alvin if part of the Texas Bandsters. If you want to come, see if you can work it out. We could meet with Janice and all 3 go together. Last time I picked her up at her house and we rode together. Or we can meet and you can follow us if you want a car to be able to leave when you are ready. Have a happy thanksgiving!!
