Can anyone eat grits?
I eat super thick oatmeal every morning so I don't know why grits would be any different? Maybe as you get really tight, but you can always thin them down. -BG

Body Measurements- How to count total lost?
OK, I asked what to measure when I started the LB process and took my measurements. It's been 7 months (really only 4 that I've been dieting) and I just retook the measurements. Officially (how do the fitness experts/gym trainers officially count this?), do you count things only once or do you count the things that you have 2 of twice (bicep, forearm, thigh, calf)? Neck......15.75....15.75..... 0............ 0 Bicep.....15.125...15......... .125 x 2= .25 Forearm..11........10.875... .125 x 2= .25 Chest.....45.25....42.75..... 2.5......... 2.5 Waist.....47.25....44.......... 3.25....... 3.25 Hips.......53.375...50.25..... 3.125...... 3.125 Thigh.....33.5......31.5........ 2 x 2= ... 4 Calf.......17.5......16.75..... .75 x 2= .. 1.5 TTL Loss .......................11.875 OR 14.875

Independence Day challenge for Bunny Bandsters
ALRIGHT you Bunnies!!! Get your fluffy tails over to the Labor Day Challenge NOW!!! We all knew Bandster Hell was a part of the process, but so is the added incentive of setting mini-goals (those that set them, do better!). Set an acheivable goal and get those fills...this will turn around for all of us IF we stick with it! I lost 1 pound the whole month of June...did you hear me...1 MEASLY POUND!!!! Depressing, but I have faith that this will get better...so keep the faith Bunnies and join me... HERE.

10 Minus 3 and counting
Banding day is just around the corner...you're doing great! I've lost big weight more times than I can count (I was 12# above my goal 8 years ago and up and down since then)...for some of us it's not the ability to lose, but the ability to not feel like we're starving so we won't gain it back this time! Best Wishes. -BG

2nd nutritionist visit of 4
Same thing happened to me (blood pressure meds) and it was a godsend...helped me get the surgery! Now I can't wait to not have to take them! Best Wishes! -BG

Feeling better day by day
Sounds like you're turning the corner. Best wishes tomorrow and prayers for your Mom. -BG

I want Toast
If this amount of restriction keeps up much longer then you need to call your doc as you are too tight right now. You're eating sliders and are now into what some here call 'soft food syndrome', which defeats the purpose of the band. If you can't eat solid proteins then you need an unfill. Best Wishes! -BG

Realized that I need more information
You've got the beginning right! So here is what I don't understand: What causes the food to actually move through the opening? Why doesn't it just sit there? Is it like an hourglass where the sand just drops slowly through the opening? Your esophagus produces some juices (I believe that's where the 'slime' comes from), but mainly you've got it right...it's an hourglass and mainly gravity kicks it through (that's why people have problems if they eat too close to bedtime). When people mention being "stuck" where are they stuck? Is it the at the opening between the esophogus and the pouch? Or the pouch and the band? My doc said this is the new stoma (pouch/band). You'll notice you have to adjust your chewing as your new upper stoma gets smaller. Same idea with a PB--where does the this get triggered? At the esophogus or when the food gets to the band. Not sure what you mean, but I was told when something gets stuck (above) then the body reacts with producing slime (I believe from the esophagus) to move things along, when that doesn't work the next response is the PB to get it up and out. That's why you usually slime then PB. You can have food back up all the way into your esophagus as well.

no results yet......
Good attitude! I don't know how much you have in your band, but it takes most people an average of 4-5 fills to get to the sweet spot (but some restriction before that point). We'll get there, it's just part of the process! -BG

Nervous about surg-There are so many concerns from so many people
I'm now 10.5 weeks post-op. Yep, I've PB'ed, Slimed and I don't have enough restriction yet so I'm still in Bandster Hell (and I had port pain for weeks post-op). Would I do it all again...in a second! I think you have to have realistic expectations that almost everyone goes through these things, not all, but most. To me these are really minor issues and things I expected...there's a learning curve with the band and I'm a 'tester', so when I've PB'ed...it was my fault for pushing things or eating mindlessly. Keep in mind that this is a support site and I for one come here to whine as much as celebrate my victories. I've kept this surgery to myself (and DH) so this is my only outlet to seek help and support. Someone told me early on here that most people who are doing really well with the band and have other support aren't going to be the ones spending a lot of time on LBT (thank goodness some of the old-timers stick around), but people who are having problems are here a lot trying to find help and support so keep that in mind. Like I said, I'd do this again in a second. Even without perfect restriction I've seen what help the band can do for me and I only wish I'd done this years ago. Oh, I had no set pre-op diet, just told to keep it low fat, low sugar the week before. Good luck to you! -BG

Having a Really Bad Day
Honey, I've lost about the same in two months plus...you're no "Failure"!! My doc recommended mushies for 2 weeks at 1/4-1/2 Cup, but for 6 MEALS A DAY (right before I got banded they got rid of the mushy phase). He put me on the lifetime diet before my first fill which is 1 - 1.5 C of food/3 meals day. Good luck! -BG

I cheated and it felt so bad
Like you said, this isn't a diet...so in the scheme of this new 'lifestyle change' where NOTHING is off limits we just have to make good choices most of the time. I've been trying hard not to think of these moments of poor choices as 'cheating' as we've all been in that diet/cheat cycle for so long and beating yourself up leads to stress, which leads to weight gain. You made some poor choices this weekend, so did I, don't beat yourself up. Just try to make better choices this week...one day at a time. That's the great thing about the band...it will be with you for life.

Labor Day Challenge for Bunny Bandsters
OK, now that our Independence Day Challenge is over, let's start a new one to keep us going...and hopefully more of us will get some restriction with more fills so we can all be successful! We'll start on Monday, July 13, and end on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. That's 8 weeks total (the last challenge was for 9 weeks if that helps you set a goal). Sign up now and then update with your start weight on Monday the 13th! Same procedures apply: Hit 'Quote' at the bottom of the LAST post here (please be sure you're on the LAST post before hitting Quote there as the chain lost some updates last time) and then just add or update your own information whenever you want (delete the quote marks beginning and end of the list and anything not part of the list, ie. my words here). *Changes from the last challenge-I got rid of the current date as it's whatever date you add/update and I tightened it up a little as mine was broken in two lines. **If you want a ticker, go to ticker factory and pick the 'Objects/Actions Graphical Counter' and make one or copy mine. Click HERE to get started on a new one (or click on my ticker below and then 'Edit/Update'), then copy/paste the end ticker (not the code) to change your signature on LBT (user cp, sig). Join me!
