Nervous about surg-There are so many concerns from so many people

Hey I am 24 and having lap band surg for Aug 6. I have been on this site for over 2 months now. It seems there are so many issues, people not feeling restriction, sliming or pbing all the time, having port pain etc.

Can anyone give some positive feedback that has been banded in the last 4 months before?

As well did anyone have pre op diet that was no in liquid form?

Hi there - I was banded June 3rd so am now 5 weeks post and I have followed all the rules and I am just so happy with my progress. 11.5kg to date. I haven't had any of the horror experiences that I've read on this site. I think your choice of surgeon is very important and the pre and post follow up is also very important. I had 2 week pre op optifast which was quite hard going but as my surgeon said it will be the last diet I every go on!! I know its a bit freaky reading some of the bad experiences but I am so happy with my decision and you need to think of why you're doing this - so that you will become and much healthier person. Good for you - all the best for Aug 6th - my advice is follow the advice and guidlines/instructions and you will be fine.

My 2 week pre-op diet was high-proteni, low carb. I put myself on liquids the week before but the doctor only required clear liquids the day before surgery. It seems like everyone's pre and post op diets are different. I am 1 week post op and other than gas, things have been smooth sailing surgery-wise. Of course, we will all encounter some ill effects from poor decisions - that's what happened to me last week. So, good luck to you on August 6.

I'm now 10.5 weeks post-op. Yep, I've PB'ed, Slimed and I don't have enough restriction yet so I'm still in Bandster Hell (and I had port pain for weeks post-op). Would I do it all again...in a second! I think you have to have realistic expectations that almost everyone goes through these things, not all, but most. To me these are really minor issues and things I expected...there's a learning curve with the band and I'm a 'tester', so when I've PB'ed...it was my fault for pushing things or eating mindlessly.

Keep in mind that this is a support site and I for one come here to whine as much as celebrate my victories. I've kept this surgery to myself (and DH) so this is my only outlet to seek help and support. Someone told me early on here that most people who are doing really well with the band and have other support aren't going to be the ones spending a lot of time on LBT (thank goodness some of the old-timers stick around), but people who are having problems are here a lot trying to find help and support so keep that in mind.

Like I said, I'd do this again in a second. Even without perfect restriction I've seen what help the band can do for me and I only wish I'd done this years ago.

Oh, I had no set pre-op diet, just told to keep it low fat, low sugar the week before.

Good luck to you! -BG
