  1. Yes we do have a small pouch, but when the alcohol passes through that pouch it goes into the main part of our stomach where it metabolizes the same as before surgery....maybe slightly quicker due to the lack of food in there. But in the bypass patient 95% of the stomach is bypassed causing the alcohol to absorb at lightening speeds thus causing quicker and longer intoxication. I'm not saying that bandsters, or anyone else for that matter, should drink and drive. I'm simply saying that the article you referenced does not apply to us.
  2. I lost my 22 year old daughter!
  3. Wow, how is this for a coincidence? I've been on the National Marrow Registry for over 16 years and never been called upon to donate. Now, after having discussed it in this thread I got a letter today stating that I may be a match for a patient in need of a transplant! I immediately called the number and got the ball rolling. I should be getting a phone call in the next few weeks. It may sound strange, but I really hope that I get the opportunity to do this!
  4. Anything larger than an aspirin will need to be cut, crushed or taken in a different form.
  5. Unfortunately, the hard way is the only way to learn!
  6. Welcome, Kaylee. Congrats on a successful surgery. I have a feeling that you will hit that 170 goal very quickly and then will set a new lower goal and hit that too. I know it seems like you have a long way to go but really you don't. You have youth on your side and a 2 year old to keep up with. I bet the pounds fall off at lightning speed! Good luck and keep posting your progress!
  7. I'm sooooo glad I no longer have that problem!!!! In the old pre band, menstrual days I would eat anything that didn't eat me first!
  8. Chicken doesn't give me problems. It never has even if its a little bit dry. Red meat on the other hand, is a big no-no for me. It doesn't matter how moist it is. I can handle a small amount of hamburger if its in something like spaghetti sauce, although I can't eat the spaghetti, just the sauce. I shy away from most things that are white...pasta, bread, rice...I have become a huge fan of Soup. It's high in Protein and veggies, low in calories and goes down easily. That's usually what I order if I go out. That's great, Brenda. Wish I could say the same. The PB'ing and sliming issues are few and far between for me now but they do still happen on occasion!
  9. You're doing great. Don't try to limit your carbs and fats too much. They help with protein absorption. Just stay in your caloric range and you'll be fine.
  10. Go to YOUR doctor. You would be amazed at how many people don't go because they are too embarrassed because they aren't having success. He's used to it. He can't help you if you don't go. Your husband is going to be gone for a year. Imagine the look on his face when he comes home and sees his skinny wife for the first time. Use that as your motivation!
  11. Listen to the good angel!
  12. I haven't been on a roller coaster since I was about 6 or 7 years old when my 2 older brothers played a rotten trick on my on one. Freaked me out so bad that 45 years later I still won't go on one.
  13. It's not uncommon to plateau or even gain after you go back to solid foods. Hang in there. It'll start coming off again.
  14. You are probably just swollen from the vomiting. Put yourself on liquids for a few days and you should be fine. Chronic or projectile vomiting can cause a slip but one little episode is unlikely to do any long term damage.
  15. This article is about gastric bypass patients and alcohol. Alcohol (in any form) contains alot of sugar. Sugar is a huge no-no with gastric bypass. While it's true that alcohol will affect us quicker because of the small amount of food in our systems, this really doesn't apply to us.
  16. Some people might be able to handle it. I wouldn't even want to try. I have a friend that was banded in 2003. She reached her goal of 155 and has maintained it for over 6 years. 3 or 4 months ago she had an unrelated medical issue. Her doctor insisted on loosening her up until the other issue was resolved. She was finally able to go this week for a fill and had gained almost 25 pounds.
  17. Minute Maid Light Cherry Limeade is not!
  18. My insurance had the same requirement but I was able to bypass it. Luckily, I've had the same PCP for 20 years and he had already seen my numerous attempts.
  19. Thanks, NJ. I got to spend the day last Friday at the beach with the little light of my life. I love that picture, even if it does show all my wrinkles! LOL. My last fill was the middle of April. It put me up to 5.8cc. Honestly, I think this is the first time in 3 years that I really feel like I'm in my sweet spot. As for secrets...there are none. Pardon me while I quote Colin Powell: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” I happen to know that you came into this well prepared. You really did do your homework before your surgery. I'm also sure that you are up for the challenge. And let's face it....every one of us has years of failure to draw from. Otherwise we wouldn't be here.
  20. There's nothing better than smaller clothes! WTG!!
  21. Is that a pre-op diet? Sounds crazy that that's all you are allowed. If you could drink coffee the caffeine would help with the headaches. Clear broth or protein shakes would help you not be so tired and grouchy. I guess the best thing you can do is keep yourself busy and your mind occupied so you aren't dwelling on it. Maybe try some liquid vitamins too.
  22. Thank you. Yes, he is adorable and he's the love of my life!!
  23. Yes, it definitely gets looser as you lose weight. There is fat in the area and as it goes away the band loosens. I have a 10cc band as well but am currently in my sweet spot with 5.8cc in it. I am also about 15 pounds from goal so I'm confident that I'll never get close to capacity. I doubt that you will either. You still have 2cc to play with. That's alot.
  24. I just watched your you tube video. All I can say is I'm glad he isn't my doctor!!! Does he think your a pin cushion? My doctor has NEVER had trouble finding my port...even when I was at my largest. One thing I noticed is that you were laying flat. My doctor always has me lift my feet up a little which causes the ab muscles to contract making it easier for him to access the port. I'm actually surprised that he allowed you to video tape considering what a quack he appears to be. I'm really sorry that you have had the problems that you have. I hope you are able to find a good doctor that can help you get your health problems in order. You really can't keep going the way you are. You look great, by the way, but you need to be healthy too. Good luck! Cindy
  25. Good for you! It's a great feeling, isn't it!!!!
