Stupid Question
hmmmmm I was not on the attack. yeeeesh. I too was exercising (elliptical and biking very very soon after surgery - since I was doing it prior to)....I was only answering Dame J's question and wanted to point out the difference of doing cardio with that of doing something that will involve a LOT of ab muscle work, such as Yoga!!!! The emphasis was on yoga because that was her original question. Don't take it so personally...it wasn't an attack.....(you'd KNOW if I was attacking you!!) (besides which I'm Canadian and don't do go on the offensive!). I know lots of ppl get up and get moving right after surgery (myself included) but I wanted to make sure she knew the difference between that and doing crunches (as an example!). Holy Moly.

Mookie's Memoirs
welcome back Mookie....glad u are feeling better but it sucks you had that type of experience (ie. with the bronchitis). Take are of yourself and remember this is time for healing, not weight loss anyways....so don't even think about that! As for the pain meds....hmmmm....wow....does Dr. C's office only give codeine...? and for such a short time? Man, I got so much demerol, I still have a whole whack left despite taking it every day for several days (to pre-empt anything). Anyways....the surgery itself is over now....concentrate on healing....and only once you are healed, on the weight loss!

Stupid Question
I didn't say mowing wasn't a good cardio workout....or strenuous....what I was alluding to is that the "MOVES" involved in yoga are very very different from pushing a mower (regardless of how strenuous it is)....in mowing you aren't pushing your body into weird shapes and doing the ab contours etc.....if you do yoga you would see what I mean....and if you do do yoga and you don't see the difference I question what type of yoga you are doing!

Yoda's Jedi Journals (aka Yoda's Yammerin's)
Update: today was a MUCH better day. So far I've been able to eat at every meal (the bandster portion as opposed to the baby sparrow portion) and no probems with upchucking!!!! *knock on wood* (*looks for Mandi's head*!). So, as long as I get thru this evening without any unsavoury events, I'll be a happy camper. I did talk to the clinic today and they said I may be a wee bit too tight (in lieu of the liquid coming up into my throat at night while sleeping)...but we decided I'd wait a week to see if it settles down. I can hack it if I know it might do so. So, all in all....a good day for this bandit....first good day since my last fill on 12 Jan.

oh yes folks....get your tylenol ready for the headaches!!! I remember those days well. Thanks for the compliment Tres Chic....I remember all too well what it was like to be pre-op and it is nice to "give back". You will do so one day soon, too! Doriana....re. the weight gain....normal normal normal....don't forget your body will fluctuate a lot especially at the beginning as it gets "used" to things. How often are you weighing? I only weigh once a week and find that works much better for me than once a day.

Stupid Question
Dame...ask your doctor what he/she recommends but I HIGHLY doubt he will say it is okay to do Yoga that soon after. I'd start thinking of your excuse now. As for the mowing and weedwacking...um.....that is WAY different from doing the yoga moves!! LOL.

Holliday Inn Toronto
Mr Yoda stayed there overnight when I had my surgery (I had to stay at the clinic overnight). He had no probs with it.

Argon's Activities
yeah, when I told my parents (after I was banded because I didn't want them to worry on a month long trip to Europe they went on)....I gave her a video website to go to....to see the entire operation. It really helped explain it to her and helped her to accept, understand and support. (she lives several provinces away!).

Best of luck to all of you commencing your pre-op diets!! Remember, as Cloe said....tis only temporary!! The biggest thing for me: take it ONE day at a time (ONE MEAL at a time if you have to). I couldn't look at the big picture (2 weeks in my case) or I would lose it! That and also as cloe said, the anxiety of "screwing up" and then defeating the purpose of it for the surgery. You can DO IT!!! If we all did it, you can!!! Yup...reallllllly tough, but worth it in the long run!!! One day you will be here saying the same thing to someone about to start their pre-op diet! :gluck:

How do u deal with stress??
Hey Cloe....at the very least, hopefully your other kids are "learning" from this experience!

Seeking assistance/...having problem...
Thanks SallyJo and Jack; appreciate it! I will be calling tomorrow morning to talk to the clinic and see what the "up" is. If I KNEW this would go away in a few days, I could hack it...but I don't have that guarantee. Jack...I am definitley NOT a "too much is not enough" kind of person....despite losing 7 lbs in a week, I would MUCH MUCH rather lose the 1 lb a week and be "normal" with my eating (ie. eat more than enough to feed a baby sparrow!!). :phanvan

Fill question
hmmmmm, well as to "port location".....whether they mark you on your skin or not will make no difference; I'm speaking of direct experience....dunno 'bout you but I don't want to go thru another 2 hrs (literally) of being prodded...to no avail. But then again...maybe that is just me. Anyways....you asked for the reasons....that's all I was doin'...Mandi can speak for herself but I have a feeling that is what she was thinkin' about.

Seeking assistance/...having problem...
Hi guys, Okay....here is the circumstance: I got a fill last Friday (nine days ago); I did need the fill. I had .5 ccs put in so that I am now at 7.5 ccs in a 10 cc band. The fill was done via fluro and checked, so things didn't seem to appear to be "too tight"....I did start to feel restriction but I initially thought in a "good way". However, I have been unable to eat much at all over the last nine days (ie. I struggle to consume 1/4 cup of beans for a meal). Though this has resulted in a 7 lb loss in the last week, that is not what I'm after. Now, what has started happening (over the last 2 days) is that it seems about an hour and a half after I eat (& I use the term "eat" lightly") I need to vomit (I don't know if I'm PBing or vomiting)....I literally need to do it...so I lean over the sink, I just have to cough (nothing forceful) and some liquid and food (well chewed up teeeeeeny bits of food - if u can call it that) come up. I sometimes feel better afterwards and othertimes I don't. God knows I'm not upchucking because I'm too full!!!! I'm not eating near enough for that! This is a pain...and not good for me (ie. feeling weak and tired etc because I KNOW I'm not getting enough food - let alone water - into me). I've heard lots of ppl say this happened to them after fills and it eventually subsided. So, I don't know if I should just wait it out or if I should have a de-fill. I'm a lil' confused, because as I said, I did need a fill....but now I'm having this problem and this is not the way I want my band to work. Plus, it is really worrying Mr Yoda (and me to some extent because I know this isn't the way it should be).... So, has this happened to anyone out there, and if so, what did you do? Do I consider a de-fill (it's a pain in the ass for me to drive all the way to the clinic for one --- 4 hr round trip ...but I'm willing to do it if required) or do I wait it out? Is this a clear cut sign of being to tight or something else? Comments/experiences greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!

Fill question
a few reasons: - the doc can actually see the band and make sure all is A-OK with placement, adherence, etc - the doc can actually see the liquid flowing through the opening so can tell if things will be drastically too tight or not tight enough etc - there is no second guessing; the port is hit on the first try for sure (important to those of us who have gone through SEVERAL attempts at having the port hit)..... Yeah, it's "constant exposure" but the whole process takes less than two minutes (seriously) and if you only ever get 3 or 4 fills...that is nothing.

Surgery Question ?
The children's tylenol did me fine...and the grape taste was soooo wonderful!! Get a few bottles though, as you have to take more than the suggested dosage (which is for kids).

Argon's Activities
Good gawd Mandi...go and try some stuff on in the "normo" stores....I can fit into some of the stuff so YOU DEFINITELY can!!!! BTW, Penningtons is having a sale with ridiculously low prices right now!!! We were driving by one yesterday and I saw the sign and read it out loud (but more to myself) and Mr Yoda (thinking I was hinting - which I wasn't) pulled into the parking lot. I said "whatcha doin'?" and he said, "you now have some empty hangers in your closet and you need to fill 'em up" (I had been putting "big" things away in a bin for a later giveaway). Isn't he awesome! So, we went in and I cleaned them out man!!! I got 11 clothing items for a total of $140 (incl tax). I totalled them up separately when I got home and it came to just over $450!!!! YEEEEHAAA! One of the things I got was a beeeeeautiful pant suit (I'm calling it my "power pant suit"); very professional looking and....it was a size 14!!!!! OMIGAWD!!! Granted it was snuggish and I wouldn't feel comfy wearing it but 10 more lbs and it will be comfy! Some of the tops I got were an "X" ...not even a 1X. Happy happy NSV!!! and I love Mr Yoda!!!
