Anyone have trouble/get stuck with fingernails?

    Are those fingernails or toenails???
  2. My doctor and nutritionists are totally against Atkins also. Too much fat and not realistic to live that way forever. Vegetables are hard for some people. Pasta is not easy for me, so I dont eat it. Everyone is different, but if you are getting disgusted, stick to low fat, locarb and high Protein. Try this site for high protein foods with variety : www.highproteinfoods.net good luck.

    Miss shopping/buying goodies!

I agree with evveryone here. I could never live my life dieting ALL the time. Its not realistic. Its a matter of choosing the right foods and eating a small amoutn of it, even if its a cheeseburger and fries once in a while. I havent had that yet, but I was banded in October and I eat normal foods at dinner and have shakes and yogurt w/almonds at lunch and I try to do my treadmill for 30 mins at least 4x a week. I would go insane if I couldnt eat regular food. I could never do this it thats what it meant. I want to feel normal, eat normal, and be normal. If I dont, I will just be reminded of how I cant be normal, like the skinny girls. I just pretend I'm one of them. I;m down 54 poinds but cant change that stupid scale on my profile.
  4. I think I need your help. I was banded Oct 16 and have lost all in all since pre-op, about 54 pounds. You havent had a fill yet? I have had three and the first two didnt work for me. The third one did. I am now 218 pounds and honestly I really havent followed a low fat diet. I just strted using a treadmill about 30 mins at least 4 times per week. Do you ever eat regular food, just in smaller portions? For the most part, I have aprotein shake for breakfast and lunch , greek yogurt w/almonds and honey and dinner is regular food. Maybe thats why I'm losing slower than you. I do have restriction and get stuck with breads and rice and have had to PB because I still dont chew thouroughly or slowly. My question t you is: Do you ever eat rregular food or do you strictly follow low fat and low carb?

    Just banded 4/6/09

Muscle has been cut through to get to your stomach to put in band which has to be stitched into place to keep it there, the port has been stitched into your stomach muscles to be held in place. Thats what has to heal.
  7. $6.00 fo rcigarettes?? Thats cheap! Here in New York my husband pays about $9.00

    Question ?

PB means productive burp. This is when you've eaten too much and now you're overfilled, produce a lot of saliva and have to throw up what you've eaten in its whole state. I also have a 10cc band, filled to 5cc's, I believe. I had my surgery, lost 14 lbs prior to surgery and in total about 54 lbs. I eat much less, but really dont eat lowfat foods. I eat regular foods, just much less of it. I have just started using a treadmill and that seem to be picking up the weight loss. I am so bad, cant chew slowly and dont take small bites. Tough habits to break.

    post op shoulder pain

Its all gas, gas, gas!!! The only thing that helps is walking and movement to get it out. I think some people use Phazyme. Maybe that will help.
  10. lipstix64

    Caffeine?

Never heard that! I drink coffe everyday, no problems.

    Just banded 4/6/09

OMG!!! Its only 4 days since surgery!! Were you expecting to do cartwheels. You were opened up in 4 or 5 spots. You are still loaded with gas which causes back pain, neck pain, arm pain, etc. Your muscles were cut through to place the port in place and you want to feel better already?? Give yourself a break. Take your meds for the pain, walk a lot to get rid of the gas, and dont pick up anything heavier than you water glass. You'll feel better soon enough! Good luck.

I PB alot, but I am always hungry????

OMG!!! I go thru the same thing, but I KNOW its because I dont chew enough and dont eat slowly, or take small bites. I was banded on Oct 16 2008, lost over 54 lbs since starting all this in July. But, I can eat alot of some stuff, no matter how fast I chew or how big of bites I take. Its very fickle. Honestly, I eat everything, just cant eat a lot of it and I still lose weight. I just recently started walking on a treadmill and lost another 4 lbs in past two weeks. I feel like a normal person eating real food. Are you guys chewing slowly and taking small bites and still PB'ing?? If you are, then maybe band is too tight.

    Bad Constipation

I'm tellling you- get psyllium husk powder- you wont believe it. The constipation is caused by all the protein we are eating. Get the pysllium husk, no more problems!

    Bad Constipation

The other response mentioned an enema- the proper name is Fleet Enema, which is good for a quick fix, but constipation will keep happening because of all the Protein. I tried Psyllium Husk powder mixed with Water 2 times a day and let me tell you how relieved I am-literally. You use it everyday and at first your gassy until your body gets used to it. It doesnt give you diarrhea, it just make you go regular and it helps with weight loss. I bought mine at Vitamin shoppe.com or you can get a flavored one called Colon cleanse and you can buy that at naturesexpress.biz Good luck!
  15. Wow! Really? You werent full after that? Dont get me wrong, I can eat alot too, but I would be sick full after the eggs, two of the breakfast sausage, homefries, and a bagel. I always got full quickly, but kept eating because it tasted so good. My max weight was 272 and now I'm down 217. That food looks good and its making me hungry!
  16. wHY WOULD YOUR DOCTOR TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN HAVE eggs AND VEGETABLES 5 DAYS OUT OF SURGERY? YOU HAVE TO HEAL AND YOUR BAND HAS TO STAY IN PLACE WITH STITCHES, WHICH VOMITING CAN POP. EVERYON I KNOW WAS ON 1 shake PER DAY PLUS BROTHS, sugar-free POPSICLES, NO solid food UNTIL TWO WEEKS LATER AND THAT WAS JUST MUSHIES, LIKE HUMMUS, pureed FOODS, puddings, chicken salad, EGG SALAD AND SO ON.
  17. Relax! Your band is healing, swelling going down and hunger coming back. Be prepared. your first fill might not work. Sometimes, it take more fills before you feel restriction. I finally got restriction on the 3rd fill. Up until then, you will have to count on your willpower. No one said it was going to be easy. Good luck!

My doc and nutritionist told me not to drink Slim Fast. I forgot why not.

    protein shakes

I LOVE Isopure perfect low carb Protein shakes. I but them at www.vitaminshoppe.com and get a freat price. Usually under $35.00 for the big container. I like the vanilla and the chocolate. Those are the only flavors I tried. They ship out to you ASAP and you get it in about three days.
  20. Youre concerned about losing too fast??? You feel like you're wasting away??? Are you kidding?? And, you're eating Pasta already?? If you are having luids for two week, of course you will lose fast, especially since your'e overweight it comes off fast. You are not wastimg away with 13 lbs lost. Why would you eat pasta nine days out?? You could bust stiches keeping your band in place. You seem determined to mess this up. Why???
  21. I hear that cottage cheese w/ a drop of vanilla and cinnamon is delish!
  22. How bout egg salad, hummus, cottage cheese.
  23. Relax! Its normal to be freaked out. I was! Its scary wondering if you are doing the right thing. But , once its over you will know this is what had to be done. I was petrified of going under anesthesia and not waking up. I was scared of what it feel like once it is in. Let me tell you. This is my experience as well as many others: Bring loose clothes, chapstick, and apillow for sealtbelt on ride home. You wont know your under anesthesia, surgery takes 45 mins to 1 hour, you wake up, you feel like something is in there, your chest might hurt, they give you sips of Water and send you to recovery. I was there in recovery for a total of 6 hours, went home that day. You take your pains meds(hardly any pain I had), walked around alot to get rid of gas, which is not like regular gas, it is pain in your shoulders arm and neck, so dont panic. I had Protein shakes for 2 weeks, plus Soup, sugar-free ice pops. I stayed home from work for a week. You wont get stitches and they cover the incisions with gauze that falls off after 3-5 days and underneath they are covered with (steri-strips) and they fall off about 2 weeks. I slept in a recliner, took my meds whether I had pain or not because they help you sleep. Thats it, no big deal. You dont feel the band in your stomach ever. You will never know it is in there. Once you heal, you will feel hungry and it is time for your first fill and it maight not take the first time you get a fill, mine didnt. It wwas agradual thing anf my 3rd fill was a charm. I had my surgery on Oct 16th and I'm down from 272 to 220. Feel good, look good and I'm so glad I did this. Here I am 6 months later and cant believe how fast it went and how scared I was. Time flew and here I am 52 lbs later and so happy I did it. Good luck!

    Aetna Insurance question

Hi, Elgrad. I have Aetna and had my surgery in October. They require 6 months thru them or 3 months thru my doctor. I chose my doctor and had to got to 3 support groups, 3 nutritionist meetings with my doctors, had to get ok from heart doc, lung doc, and therapist. I also had to lose 5% of my body weight and couldnt gain more than 2 pounds, otherwise I would be denied. Once that was done, it was clear sailing. They shouldnt deny you and if they do at first, my insurance girl at the docs would fight it until they give in. Good luck
