Houston Ne1?
I don't live in Houston, but I hope to be having sleeve surgery there in the near future. Fingers crossed. The sleeve board does not seem to get nearly as much traffic as the lapband forum did. I have a slipped lapband and am going to have the revision to the sleeve. Good luck DC., 2-4 wks will go by before you know it. I have just started the process. EGD next week.

I just joined this group. I have just started the process for revision from a lapband.. The band slipped and I have only lost 60 lbs. since 5/09. I saw a new surgeon last week and wanted a bypass, but he thinks the sleeve will work for me. I am glad since it is less surgery. I have been getting alot of good info on these message boards. Seems like most people are having good luck with the sleeve so I am looking forward to getting it. I know it will be a while. It seems to take forever to go thru the process, but it will be worth it.

I just joined this group. I am starting the process for the sleeve. I live in SE Texas and am traveling to Houston for this surgery. It will be a revision from lapband. My lapband slipped, and I did not have very good results with it, only lost 60 lbs and had it since 5/09. I saw Dr. Sherman Yu last Thurs. Anyone had surgery by him? He did a bypass on my dght 2 yrs. ago with good results. I wanted a bypass, but he seems to think the sleeve will work for me. That is great because it is less surgery and hopefully the same results. I go on the 29th for EGD am having the labs Monday , nutrition consult on the 28th. Hopefully Monday I can get my cardiac clearance letter from my cardiologist office, at least I am getting the process started. I think my insurance will pay for it with the right documentation. Looks like most people on this message board are having good luck with the sleeve so I am looking forward to getting it done and getting this weight off. I am diabetic and on a ton of meds. I am getting a lot of good information from people on here. Thanks.

Just Got My Surgery Date!
Congrats. That is super fast. Good idea to try out different protein drinks and find a few you can tolerate. None taste that great. Adding something to them can help. Many, many suggestions on these board. I like to add a little sf pudding to mine. If they are really bad, some fruit helps ie. blueberries or a banana, also sf davani or torani syrups are good no cal adds. It helps to have them on ice and very cold. Lots of good advice and support . Good luck and keep us posted on you progress. Yes it is a big decision to have surgery.

Liquid Hell
I am glad to find this topic. I remember post lapband liquid hell, I could not tolerate it more than one week due to severe diarrhea. I was drinking lowcarb no sugar added protein drinks and I guess the sugar alcohol or whatever they sweeten them with did not agree with me. Anyways I had to start mushies a few days early. I don;t guess that I will be able to do that with the RNY so I am glad to see the suggestions for different liquids esp. Salas for the liquid bean soup.

I am new to this board. I was going to the lapband board, but guess what? My band slipped and I have decided to have RNY. I am 55. I had a lapband May09 and lost a grand total of 50 lbs. I don't really know when my band slipped. It slipped up, not down. I had no symptoms other than no weight loss. I decided to have a fill and the surgeon insisted I have a barium swallow since I had not been in for a yr. I agreed it was needed and the barium swallow revealed that I had no pouch The lapband was just sitting at the top of my stomach and the end of the esophagus. So far the esophagus was not enlarged. The surgeon removed all the fill (Thank God there was not much restriction ), and gave me my option choices. I think the slip happened when I had a very severe case of vomiting one night due to a virus??? I don't think I want to have the lapband reattached. I have read so many horror stories lately. My daughter had a RNY with good results. I have been reading the good, the bad and the ugly of all the procedures and think the RNY is the best choice for me. I have an appointment 2/8 to discuss it with the surgeon and hopefully get the process started. In the meantime, I will be lurking. Good luck to everyone having this surgery and I will check in when I have more info. I am sure I will have some questions later.

Anyone tried this stuff?
I have the cinnamon roll. It is ok. Everyone's taste is different. I use more milk or water if it seems too thick or sweet also crushed or shaved ice helps. I agree with getting the samples, if you can find them. Some people on here love the protein shakes that I hate and vice versa.

Lets Celebrate !!!!!
I made an amazing discovery the other day. I can sit flat on the floor and get up without any assistance. Before I would never get on the floor or would make sure there was a sturdy piece of furniture to pull up on. Now I don't need it. Yea. It is also easier for me to walk up the stairs in my home. Still not effortless, but much easier.

How many of you had insurance cover your Lap Band?
I have Cigna. They denied me the first time. My PCP copied my very thick medical chart and sent it to them. I was immediately approved. They were very good IMHO.

Do you still eat out after banding?
I love to eat out. Mexican is my favorite. I usually order 1 taco and a side of refried beans. I eat the whole taco and take about 5or6 tortilla chips and dip in the beans. I can hold about1/2 or 1/4 c beans, not alot, but it is so good. I don't usually have a problem with this. I will order an appetizer sometimes for my meal. This is usually plenty. Shrimp goes down good as does any salad with chicken or shrimp. I avoid the bread and starchy vegs. It just takes a little thought because you won't be able to eat like you used to. I find it very easy to have a PB episode if I am not extremely careful eating out. Good luck.
