Thank you. Just got out of the hospital again, muscle loss high liver enzymes and lost 9 lbs in 4 days. Got out of the hospital, gained 9, lbs in 5 days. Working on getting off the tpn and transitioning to g tube over night feeding and oral intake but I'm still throwing up after eating solid food. It's not all of it. It's so frustrating because I'm doing everything right. Protein first sugar under 5g 3 oz taking two bites waiting 15 minutes a and eating the rest over 30 minutes. Chewing very well. Still unable to drink water. If I can get off TPN my doctor is considering a rehabilitation facility for physical and occupational therapy if home care can't be established. Waiting on a nurse who would take care of me mon - Friday 8am to 5pm and if I get that I hope to avoid a facility and more inpatient stays. Smh

eally hoping to find someone whose had or knows someone whose had Duodenal switch revised to rbyn bypass and ended up okay and healthy! I had the Duodenal Switch and gallbladder removed in Nov 2018 with UNC Bariatrics. They have done every surgery since. I've had six total surgeries and a bunch of procedures. In 2022 we lengthen my common channel from 150cc to 450-500cc and fixed a blind loop in my small intestine. Don't know what happened but he said the lengthening did not help like we thought because for some reason I was still unable to absorb orally. I did everything right, worked with the dietitian team through out the entire process, have maintained therapy at least once or if not twice a week for coping skills espically with how everything has ended. I took my vitamins religiously until end of 2023 for financial reasons and I was under the imprison the surgery would allow me to absorb and updated my surgeon about it after 8 months, he found me access to affordable vitamins and we worked on fixing that. June 2nd 2025 I started non stop vomiting at work after a sip of water. It I kept thinking it was a food borne illness and finally my boyfriend said its enough we are going to the dr asap. Walked in, filled him in on the situation and had my boyfriend talk because throughout the entire process I always downplayed things and my focus was always hey fix this and update the paperwork so i can return to work. He did not know I was struggling daily with vomiting, nauseous and struggling with any kind of oral intake and when I did reach out and had appointments I downloaded the impact it had because I was years into it, I learned manage my life around it and I was able to physically push through it. This time was different. I stayed in the hospital I believe 1 week 1 day, Had a tunnel cvc put in and started TPN. He also performed my 5th surgery Hiatal hernia repair with fundoplasty (laparoscopic, no mesh) (06/18/2025) His mom came in from New Zealand and his niece was in from Missouri. In a small one bedroom. When i asked him to ask about possibly going to a hotel it started going bad and I immediately fixed the situation because I do truly love his family and did not want the stress of drama. I returned to work on 7.31 part time and worked four shifts before it started again, zero oral intake because everything would come up. Water immediately. Doctor admitted me for a possible infection of my central line. Somehow, even though i had zero intake I had ecoli. Then they tested my esophagus and because it found my esophagus was moving in to and fro way when I swallowed (basically instead of letting whatever you swallow to goto your stomach mine has like a anxiety attack freaks out and takes whatever I take, push some to my stomach, but also some back into my mouth or it stays there stuck in the spasm? Whatever it made them want to do a test called the "chicken study", yes thats a real thing lol, and it then showed that what did get to my stomach was able to get through but it was in a u shape and not taking the correct path. Welp then they found out it was because adhesions were wrapped around my stomach twisting it. Due to my history of being malnutritioned, plus all other things nutritionally that goes along with that , how much of an impact ect he came into my hospital for a honest talk. He said if he didn't do the following after untwisting my stomach he will do it within 6 months. I told him yeah absolutely not, do it now. conversion from duodenal switch to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (08/20/2025) - Laparoscopic gastrostomy tube placement into excluded stomach (08/20/2025) - Upper GI endoscopy with dilation (08/20/2025) I had such issues advocating for the aftercare since being discharged after a phone call from one of the NP involved in my history, had a break down and said the issue is I expect to be better in days or weeks it will be months or years and as far as no medical supplies she started telling me how i could buy it and I stopped her mid sentence reminding her I've been out of work with aero income since June. She said use a bowl and a zip block bag lmao. I get her anger and thank god for that conversation. Facts don't change because you have feelings. I am working hard with my therapist to accept this, change my perspective and have the tools and coping mechanics I need to get through this one day. TPN services started asap as its been established since June. Was hoping to get off of it before this last hospital admission and left with a stronger formula and back up to 10 hours daily. I am a week into the 2 week period were they change the formula/time based off your blood work so positive vibes and prays for me please) and unfortunately now that I do have G-tube/skilled nurse along with home services for physical and occupational therapy set up ( Muscle mass plus maybe 20oz oral intake on my best day) I have gone from just homebound to basically bed bound. I can get up (it's a struggle, painful and immediately I'm tired from just pulling my body weight up to get ready to stand) to use the bathroom, make the protein shakes and change my clothe. Clothes are robes and dresses only. Can't shower because I can't lift my legs, they are heavy.. They swell throughout the day as well. They're just being difficult lol. My surgeon has twice a week calls/videos with me moving forward, a bunch of tests ordered, he went a bit overboard but its better than doing nothing like before plus everything he is ordering and doing is to keep me from being readmitted because the current goal is to stay out of the hospital. I would love to connect with someone who has had this specific revision and pray to hear they're recovery process , to help me know what to expect ahead of me. I do have a disability lawyer, I am confident we will win the appeal. I however, do not like the idea of this being a forever thing. I want to work, be apart of my life, go on hikes with my boyfriend and his son, see my family, hang out at plays, etc. but am ok if that doesn't happen I just hope it will. If it was up to me 100 percent it would because I want to get better, its just my body sucks and apparently doesn't lol. please if you have not had surgery yet, do not be scared by my story. It's so rare and complex, I have an accredited surgeon who is the head of the bariatric team at UNC a great establishment. He has great outcomes more than most surgeons around. I just picked the short straw and had bad luck. Do not base your decision off any of my information please, join your local groups and talk to the vets or post op and see what they say, make sure your surgeon will cover aftercare and take your vitamins like your life depends on it, change your eating habits and exercise habits as well because I'm not being dramatic. so unfortunately myself, Dad, and brother have had kidney stones throughout our lives. I recommend seeing a urologist and get a 24 hour urine test done so they can see what kind of stone you have and give you specific advice on steps you can take, foods to avoid etc. because until you know what your stones are made from the advice you are going to find is just generic. That being said, drink more water asap. Even if you drink a lot now, try adding more into your daily intake for the time being until you have your first appointment.

Hi everyone, I’m Danielle. I’ve been hesitant to share, but this space feels safe, and I am over-sharing at this point.and I know some of you might relate to the messier side of weight loss—especially when it’s tangled up with serious health issues. My journey started years ago with a duodenal switch surgery in 2018. It helped me lose a significant amount of weight, but it also opened the door to a cascade of GI complications. Since then, I’ve had multiple surgeries, been on TPN (IV nutrition), and faced severe malnutrition, anemia, and mobility challenges. Weight loss became less about numbers and more about survival. in 2022 one surgery was to fix a blind loop and at that time he lengthen my common channel from 150 to 500 however it failed and I have struggled with malabsorption and the fall out from that since. Up until June my main focus is fix it quickly so i can return to work. I couldn't physically push it anymore and I was admitted and put on TPN. Had my 5th surgery for another hernia. Was doing okay, returned to work part time on July 31st. Maybe a 1.5 weeks later I was back to zero oral intake but my surgeon suspected line infection so i was admitted on August 8th. Man, talk about everything going so wrong. My stomach ended up being twisted and almost obstructed due to adhesions and my esophagus decided to join in the fun and stopped working correctly, septically with thin liquids at the absolute worse time. My surgeon said look Dani, I am not doing this surgery knowing I will do a revision in a few months. I'm going in, and fixing the stomach then doing the revision. EGD with balloon dilation to 18–20 mm (08/13/2025) - Laparoscopic conversion from duodenal switch to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (08/20/2025) - Laparoscopic gastrostomy tube placement into excluded stomach (08/20/2025) - Upper GI endoscopy with dilation (08/20/2025) I was discharged (god it feels good to be home, kind) on the 28th with zero aftercare besides tpn and got a very angry brutal phone call that got me a health advocate and have been working with them and my insurance company that finally triggered all my messages getting directly to my surgeon. I’m still on TPN, working toward oral nutrition, and navigating disability paperwork, physical therapy, and pain management. My body is exhausted, but God always has a plan and at least I know I can advocate and work any system that I need to to ensure I have the access to the resources and services I serve and need to begin to recover. My highest weight before was 245 my lost has been 99, I was around 109-113 but since tpn anywhere between 115-120. My surgeon was honest about recovery, we really don't know because of the complexity and agreed to try and shoot for 6 months with reality being it could be permanent its a day by day journey. --- I am hoping to find someone who has had the duodenal switch revised to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and has found a way to life the healthiest happiest version of their life!
