My new journey
I'm 7 months post-op, 80 lbs. lighter and now know without a doubt that having a gastric bypass was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Yes, some days are discouraging. Sometimes there are complications, like the tiny stomach ulcer that developed a couple months ago (treated with meds and now healed). But oh, such sweet victories -- like stepping on the scale and watching that number go steadily downhill. Or having to get new clothes because nothing fits anymore. Or receiving the blood work results where you learn that your A1c is now out of diabetic range, or you can drop meds for blood pressure and cholesterol control -- or just when you wake up one morning and realize how much better you feel! Fight the good fight, friends. It is so, so worth it!

That's exciting! I have a few weeks to go until my 3 month follow-up, but like you, I'm anxious to hear what my surgeon says. I started losing weight right after the first of the year during the pre-op diet, had my bypass January 30, and have lost a total of 41 lbs. so far. It's been quite a journey!

Congrats on hitting your protein! It can really be a challenge. As far as your weight loss timetable!is concerned, have you talked to your surgeon about it? Everyone loses weight a different rate. I know there are general averages, but your doc would be best able to help you out on this.

Seems like everyone's post-op instructions are different, depending on who your surgeon was.

How's it going for you two?- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
Melissa, great idea to have a big reward waiting down the road. That's great motivation to hang in there and persevere! I can relate to impatience and am sure many others do as well. Let's just all keep on keeping on!- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
Well, January Buddies, sounds like we all have our individual struggles. I'm just over 2 weeks post-op and I'm trying really hard to get all that liquid in too ?? What helps me is to remember that this is a marathon - not a sprint. We're in it for the long haul. And I just keep working to overcome the struggles, and have discovered that doing that strengthens my resolve to keep working at it! Kind of like a mind game. Hope this help you too.- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
Debbie Jayne, tell us how you're doing!- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
Yes, that is a big challenge! On top of that, my hubby likes to cook, so he watches lots of cooking shows. Fortunately we have 2 TV's in the house, so I don't have to watch cooking shows, but you're right -- it's hard to find even a half-hour show of any type without several food commercials ??- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
DaisyChainOz, keep your chin up! You know you've got this! Sooner or later we'll encounter obstacles. Fight the good fight, and hang in there - you'll be off the plateau and on your way again. Cheering you on!- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
Cheering on all of our post-op posters! I'm only 12 days out from my bypass but already seeing great results. Keep up the good work, everyone! Hi, Poppy Velvet! Thanks for the update. Sounds like you've had some challenges but that you're working through them. My gastric bypass was Jan. 30 so I'm in the earlier stages of adjustment too. Like you, I have a wonderfully supportive husband who cooks and prepares stuff for me. For broth, instead of doing the packaged kind, he made pots of chicken and vegetable beef soup, strained out some broth for me, and would then eat the remaining soup for his meals. The other day he made homemade applesauce (so much better than anything you can get in the store) and then pulverized in the blender so that I could have it. What would we do without these guys? Please keep us posted on your journey!- January 2025 Surgery Buddies!
