  1. Yup I just did all my entries on Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program, and sure enough I'm at 1,309 calories. I logged my exercise too so I still have a deficit of over 1,000 calories today, but still! A couple of months ago I was eating between 900 and 1100 every day, now I am sneaking over 1200 even though I'm not physically hungry . . . not good. OH well, I guess I am just adjusting! Tina . . . . I am having withdrawals!!! Where you???
  2. Hi Donna! Oh good sweetie, thanks for checking in we were all worried when we didn't hear from you for so long . . . prayers and blessings for you & your mom. Thanks for your email, unfort my bratty youngest did not pass the math portion of the CHSPE last time, and they only give it one more time this year - next Saturday. So I have to drive his brattiness, then wait for him with his flippant little attitude . . . he better pass it this time, because he lied to his work and said he passed the first time - faked a certificate. I told him I will turn him in AND kick him out of the house . . . . he's getting kicked out at the end of november when he is 18 anyways, this one needs some tough love. ANYways . . .I can't make the walk!!! Darn it, I jogged a 5K this morning and I am SO up for it! Did not realize the kids testing was on the same day. My last sacrifice for this one, he's wearin' me out . . . . I just ate too much. Veggie meatballs with pomodoro sauce and italian cheese blend- I ate the full serving, which is 6 meatballs and probably 1/2 cup of sauce and 1/3 cup of cheese. 10 minutes after drinking a soy latte!!! Anybody else eating over 1200 cals? Can't feel the band at all today - maybe because I drank enough fluids?? it only seems to act up when I am rather dehydrated. Time to go shower & tuck in with the lastest John Grisham :-)
  3. GOODness my buns are hurting fro jogging already! I thought we were supposed to push ourselves?!? Maybe I will go do some Thigh Trainer to spread the pain around more, then some resistence bands on the ol' arms . . . . jeez I do all cardio and no strength, when I do any strength it hurts SOMEwhere! Argh. Walked to the storew again, but then stopped by Round Table on my way back for lunch . . . fortunately they see me in there being good so often that they automatically ring me up fo a salad, so I avoided giving in to carbs . . .except as I was just closing my salad container, out they come with fresh, warm breadsticks - OH! They smelled so good! So I pretended that they were just a 'Fresh Warm Italian Breadstick'-scented Candle, you know Party Lite or some such. Ha! But got out of there unscathed. I swear to goodness, the more I lose the weirder I get! More and more little tricks to play on myself to keep from falling back into old eating patterns. OK I have a bunvh of cleaning to do, and a bunch more clothes to go through. I wish I had $$ cause I sure do need some clothes!!!:frown:
  4. Morning Candra! Yeah diabetes sucks. His worst complication was when he got so low that he almost died, also hospitalized for 4 days then AND for 2 of those days he did not even recognize me! OMG. This was only 2 years ago . . . . he still suffers some short-term memory loss and memorizing drug actions & brand names in pharmacy tech school is really hard on him, but he is doing really well and will graduate (except for his externship) in December! woo-hoo. He's a great kid, and we have always been close, due in a large way to his diabetes. He's off playing softballs with some of his buddies he used to work with at Round Table right now. Yes there is some hard stuff in my life, but when I look at the big pic I am truly blessed! I'm on my AWS day off, jogged(!) some this AM and am going to walk to the store now - veggie meatballs, and cheese. Why I could not remember them while I was there this morning getting melon and berries, I don't know! More walking :-)
  5. OH shopping at Kohl's works even better than walking! Retail therapy :-)
  6. Candra - he has been hospitalized 3 times, once in the first stages of a diabetic coma. BUT that was after 3 days with his dad, who could not take care of him properly (a whole nuther story - we don't even know where dad is now so we don't worry about that anymore!) And he was just a little guy then! Poor little pumpkin, he was SO SICK when dad brought him home from visitation! I took him right to the hospital and he (we) spent the next 5 days there. THAT was scary, horrible. But it takes several days out out-of-control blood sugars & ketones to get to the coma state; if he can't get his BGs and ketones down in 24 hours these days we go in for some IV liquids, outpatient-style. He likes the Kaiser here; he gets all the Jello he wants :-) and they are always great about letting me stay if they keep him over, they give him a private room and me one of those awful chairs that folds into a "bed." And no, he would never go for that baby monitor! He does leave his door open so I can check on him, which I do a couple of times a night if he has been sick - that's usually when he gets ketones. Or a malfuntion with his insulin pump, obviously! Right now I need to go see how he's doing because the erratic blood sugars gave him a migraine - you know how bad those are! Nicole how you doing girl? Tina? Donna? Chris? Pammie I hope you are feeling better today! Walking HELPS the blahs, I promise!! :-)
  7. Nicole, oh honey I wish I wasn't so far away! Maybe you can go stay with your sis for a while or something. Or Candra! That's her baby after all  Seriously - you call me if you want to talk or whatever . . . I feel so darned far away!!!
  8. Nicole, you me and Jes are gonna go OUT!!!!! We are wild girls LOL . . . . Pam passion tea is sugar-free if you just added the splenda and didn't get it mixed with lemonade. My fave! Candra . . . it uses lithium energizer AAAs, any other battery voids the warranty . . .sometimes they last 6 months, sometimes only 2 weeks - I have no idea why. The alarm still goes off even when the battery is dead; he just slept through it. He has been having horrid insomnia and had taken an ambien . . . . I wish his doc would figure out what is going on with that instead of giving him another drug. OK I have to get to the annual "apple party" out in sebastopol . . . . we harvest, slice and press into juice . . . and eat & drink! Band don't fail me now
  9. He's good now - but overcompensated for the high blood glucone, too much insulin and got down to 47 last night!! And of course I had no sugar-y stuff in the house to help that - thank the Lord his brother has an energy drink stashed in the fridge drawer. Diabetes sucks! We have been doing this since he was 7 . . poor little guy. he's 21 now! Mommy will worry forever! I don't want him to move out unless he has a roomate who can help him . . . yucko. Been up most of the night; going to bed now
  10. These are SO great you guys, exactly what I was looking for! Keep them coming! LOL Nicole, you DID lose 3 Auds! I thought of a few more: * Painful, cracked heels * Urinary incontenence (sp?) * Fright of fall/winter (SADD) * Elastic waistbands * My tolerance level (no longer put up with others' crap) * My fear of cameras
  11. Holy moley, 3 lbs. in the last 10 days! Maybe I will make my mini-goal . . . I can't believe I am losing at this rate again when I'm only 20 from goal. WOOT! Must be the excercise - and the FILL yay. SO I definately have restriction now!! Ihad an episode yesterday, not PBing just sliming that lasted like 20 minutes! I was in the office getting ready to walk to Starbucks on am break with my friend Melinda (my friend I brought to Mimi's that one time), and I took a bite of cantaloupe and apparently did not chew well?? Who knows, it was both morning and my TOM, and a week after my last fill, so I was as tight as I could get I guess! We walked to starbucks which is almost a mile away, and I had to SPIT every 20 seconds!! OMG I just wanted it to END - OW it hurt. I wish I did PB actually, as that would have relieved my pain - walking, arms over head, jumping up and down, pounding on my chest . . . walking down a busy street for almost a mile. It finally ended right before I got there! Thank God Melinda knows ALL about lap-bands and my surgery! She was great about it. I thought I would be swollen for the rest of the day, but no - no other problems at all. Got back from Starbucks and ate the rest of my cantaloupe! So who knows? Other than that, no issues . . I get full faster than I ever have, and I can still eat a lot of stuff that's less dense (like salad) but very little of the dense proteins (like Quorn or eggs or even almonds). So it's all good! Might be heading out to the ER soon, my son has ketoacidosis because his insulin pump batteries went dead last night and the alarm did not wake him until I heard it when I went downstairs this mroning - blood glucose is almost 400, but at least it's down from the almost 600 that it was this morning. Oh being a mommy is so much fun! So unless he is down below 300 with less-than-moderate ketones by 3 he's got to go get on an IV for a few hours . . . . we have been through this so many times, he thinks Kaiser is his second home!!
  12. Good morning ladies!! Was going to do a little "home" 10K this morning but had to pee at 5.2 miles, came back to the house to do it, then picked up a mystery I've been reading, then . . . an hour had gone by, so no 10K for me today  BUT it is nice and cool out, I am hoping my older son will get out there with me this afternoon! Nicole, SO proud of your walking!! You are burning it up I am not happy at all about the Mike situation tho, your going from fat to thin and HOT in so little time is a huge adjustment for both of you and it sure isn't going to be smooth! It might not be at all . . . I agree you all need a break. Give that Auds a big kiss hug for me!!! Reggie! I love you and I miss you girlie  You too Tina - jeepers. How did BOS vote go? Or was the union vote . . . . hard to keep all these darned counties straight! Worst thing that happened at my county this week is that they banned water bottles big and small . . . really sucks for our inspectors out in the field, and saving about $2000 a year spread out over 200 employees?? I'd pay $10 a year to have my water cooler back! Small complaint tho compared to Sacto County, JEEZ Pat I'm so glad you are on here regular now! We are real people with real fears and real stories. A few have had some minor bad experiences, but not a one of us regrets our decision to get the band! Kaiser is a great program, and I don't think any of the bad stories come from Kaiser patients, do they? I think that they come from folks who were not mentally and physically prepared, and who lack follow-through and support - just like Candra said. HEY CANDRA!! I miss you too girl When are we going to meet up in Vacaville? If we are doing a weekday I can do Fridays or every other Monday Pammie I miss you too! WHERE IS MY DONNA???
  13. Yeah the wine then! It's calling you :-) Dudette, at the 24 I belong to, even at 5 am I can't get a treadmill or an elliptical! Not only are they already on there, but they stay on for over an HOUR! I don't have time for htat - I want to quit and go back to Stan Bennet's, it's a sweaty weight-lifting gym but they have a women-only section and they open at 5 am. . . . . meatheads yeah, but no pick-up clowns. And cheaper . . . . .going to need to get back to the gym soon 'cause it's dark out w a y to late now! Since I have to be at work at 7:30, I have to be walk/jog in the dark and thats SCARY to back to the gym it's gonna be :-)
  14. Wine has more carbs than hard liquor, but onlyif you're doing straight shots or mixing with water - juice, soda etc. all add more carbs to a mixed drink than wine has. For example, rum and (flat) diet coke has zero carbs, but is full of calories from the alcohol, which has to be burned off by your body before it can burn carbs, which is has to do before it can burn fat. SO. My advice it to chose the one that you think you'll drink less of. I KNOW I can put away a crapload of Baja Bob margaritas (no carbs if you use Baja Bob's sugar-free mixer, www.bajabob.com), so I would pick the wine cause I doubt I'll even finish 2 glasses of that. NOT that I would know. Jes?
  15. I really don;'t understand the poor lap-band stats, except they are from previous iterations of the band (before the new AP, which has much higher success in the first year but not enough stats yet 'cause it's so new. Those of us who come on this forum, who use our bands as the TOOL that they are, who expect to do our own work (as opposed to expecting the band to do the work), can expect lose 100% of our excess weight within the first and third years! Support is the best indicator of success . . . oh an excercise helps. OH and I also heard that a BMI of 43 or less AT THE TIME OF SURGERY has better stats with Lap-band - I think Dr. Baggs told me that. So the more ya lose before, the better after, too. YES you can do this! And isn't Dr. Park a love??
  16. Good morning friends! Just checking in . . .I have had issues at work with my computer crashing every time I go onto the internet, not very happy about that and really, who do I complain to, since I ain't supposed to be here anyways?? Well it's working right now . . . . I had 2cc's in my band @ surgery. The put in whatever the need to so that it fits right without being tight - reduces that chance of slippage. They don't measure it until you get your first fill, then the pull it all out (minus the "prime") and push it back in with your fill amount - it feels COOL  I am at 5.25 now, I feel it but barely - which is perfect. Hey you post-bandsters, PLEASE go visit my "what else have you lost?" thread and post to it - it's getting really good, and I promised I'd compile this list of "other things!" Will catch up on posts later, sorry - Annalyn no worries! I gained 9 lbs. over 3 days, which is impossible unless I ate 9,000 calories per day and literally didn't burn any of them - not possible. Then I started my TOM and I lost 2 lbs. a day for 6 straight days, so ended up lower than I had been! It was water weight, caused by hormones (TOM) and by my liver getting fatty again from carbs and drinkies! OK gotta work. Tina talk to me!
  17. Jersey the fill will help, I promise! 175.2 this morning, not sure what that is compared to last week but probably down since I had a fill last Thursday :-) The Lake Tahoe Marathon was GREAT!!!!!! I did it with all WLS folks, I was the only bandster but my RNY friends kicked some serious 10K butt! I posted a couple of pics, and am already signed up for next year. One of the best times I've ever had!
  18. Hey all, just posted a few Tahoe 10K pics! Check it out . . . . . . . will post more as I get em :-)
  19. Candra I'm a guzzler too . . . . no sipping for me. I was chugging the day after surgery - probably not real good for me then, but don't see how it could hurt me now - there is plenty of room for the water to go right through the band. Dr. B says don't do it but I guess that's going to be the 1 thing that I don't listen to him on! Pizza, yummo but toppings only. When I get Round Table (1 son works there so we walk down there a LOT and use his dicount!) I get the "skinny" crust, specify that I want it super thin like a cracker, and then I eat 1 pieces with the crust (not the rim part tho), and another piece toppings only - by then I'm usually full. We always get olives, so that high fat content from the olives and the cheese keeps me full for a while! Protein + fat = full the longest. Fat also works for PMS cravings when your body is DEMANDING fat and carbs - you can give it some fat - preferable healthy fat of course - but don't feed it the carbs or it will get even worse. Try half of an avacado, seriously . . . . works for PMS :-)
  20. OMG you all these are GREAT!!! Keep them coming!!
  21. Nicole I get it too . . . . been there done that and nothing, NOTHING sucks more. Call Tina she will help you . . I know you just want it all to go away but it's not going to by itself. Back from Lake Tahoe Marathon! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! OMG it was SO much fun!! I can't wait to do it again next year! :-)
  22. I agree, green = not good sign! An infection is the last thing you need, so better safe than sorry. OK ladies, signing out! Time to pack - not that I wait until the last minute or anything!! Love to you all
  23. Jes are you really here??
  24. OK I have my protein powder, my PB2 (powdered peanut butter, they take the fat out & you re-mix with water so 53 cals instead of 180), string cheese, dry roasted edamame, LOTS of herbal teas & splenda, soy slender, and lots of non-carbonated cold beverages (Sportea, unsweetened passion iced tea from Starbuck's). Robin didn't like the PB2 and she probably won't like the soy protein poder either, but I want to make sure that I can get in plenty of fuel doing a 10K at 6000 feet altitude . . .I mean, I feel nothing from my fill yet, but better safe than sorry! What I DON'T want is to eat something that gets stuck and/or I PB and then the swelling, too tight thing could start - avoiding that! Although yesterday I managed a cup of cottage cheese with ma ndarin oranges for lunch, and a 2-egg chili cheese omelet (it was BIG) for dinner, with absolutely no ill effects, so I thing I'll be fine. Still, in the past I have not reached my "full fill" until a week after, so there is more tightening to come . . . BTW . . . I asked Dr. Baggs this time how long he was going to keep filling me, I mean I'm pretty close to goal. He's like, you'll never get to 10 . . . . well duh, I hit my sweet spot at 5 for Pete's sake! But he says about BMI 24, and even then I will still need an occasional fill for maintenance because the weight that is left will shift around some after I hit goal. Maybe once a year, and I already don't go back until Christmas, unless I call and say I need one earlier. I'm kinda bummed that I won't be hitting the group fills anymore!! The first one of you that gets a Pinole group fill appt. in December, letme know right away so I can get in to it - that calendar isn't open yet. K going to go see if my clothes are dry. Gee, why isn't anybody else up at 6:30 on Saturday morn?? tee hee Donna I will miss you today!!! You're a rock star, go band buddy!!
