Hi everyone. I'm excited to join this thread. If all goes well, I'll be banded on Monday Feb 16th! I have multiple comorbidities and most likely will be hospitalized a few days early and stay a few days after surgery. I've been working on this for almost a year now, jumping thru all the insurance requirements. I can hardly believe it's really going to happen! Congratulations to all of us for getting this far. KEEP THE FAITH!

That's definitely wise advice, and I can see from your stats you're doing something right. Today I went to a giant warehouse store and walked inside for a good 20 minutes. That's about all I could handle, but I feel better for even accomplishing that much. Thanks! Keep the faith!

Thanks for your encouragement. I'm really counting on this surgery to change my life. Everyone tells me my arthritis will improve drastically, I sure hope so. You are doing just great! I read some of your posts, and you lost a lot of weight before getting any fills, right? Did you have any restriction at all, or did you accomplish that with just having the right mindset? Good for you!

Thanks for the encouragement Cathrine. It's so good to hear you no longer use your cane. I'm just about your age - just turned 60 - and am really hoping losing this weight will make me feel so much better.

Not yet. My surgeon's office just submitted my documentation this week to the insurance company. I've been working on my requirements for about 8 months now. Just thought I should try to do a little exercise...

I just spent 2 hours dragging my old Nordic track out of the garage, cleaning it off and re-assembling it. Only to find that my thighs are too big to make the strides. (The skis are too close together). Damn! It's too cool for the pool, and arthritis in my feet and knees keeps me from walking on pavement for even a little while. How frustrating! Guess I'll drag out that old Lesley Sansone walking tape. Better days are coming. KEEP THE FAITH!!

Thanks Bobbie, I'm glad to hear you are off all your meds, you're doing great. Were you starving for the 2 weeks or wasn't it too bad?

(First posted in the diabetic forum but got no response) Hi everybody. All my insurance paperwork was submitted this week and I'm hopeful my surgery will be soon. I've been a non-insulin dependant diabetic for about 7 years now. I have never really educated myself on how to follow a diabetic diet, and lately I have occasional panicky low sugar episodes with the sweating and shaking and the whole nine yards until I get some sugar in me. So, I'm concerned about my one week of pre-op Clear liquids. Can I expect to get through that without going into a low-sugar coma? How did you all get through the pre-op diet? Thanks in advance.

Donna, if only that were true! There would be no need for lapband. Every single time I've gone on a diet it's been because I really wanted to lose weight. I've failed every single time. Like most lap-banders, "really wanting" to lose isn't enough.

Like most of us, I have many, including getting stuck in the back seat of someone's two-door car. It took someone to push and someone else to pull my butt out of there. Here's another one: Visiting with family last week, my step daughter in law who is a lovely girl, (about 5'11" tall, and maybe 150 lbs soaking wet) said I had left a pair of jeans behind when we visited last month. I said "Are you sure?" She said "Well the inseam is about 12" long, and the waist is about 40. You know they wouldn't fit me." She then held them up to herself and waved them around. I couldn't think of anything to say, but my face sure was red. I don't think she realized how rude that sounded, the skinny b****! I'm pre-band and stand 5'1" and weigh about 215.

I had to have an upper GI, and they found a big old ulcer hiding there. Also had to have an EKG which I failed, so had to have a Cardiac catheterization, and spent 2 days in the hospital because they found a kidney problem too. By the time I get cleared for surgery, they will know every little secret my body has ever had. Which I guess is a good thing.:blushing: Pickle6

Thanks for your reponse Molinamama. You must be jumping out of your skin with excitement to be so close! How's the pre-op diet going? I hear it's really tough. Do you like your doctor? My pre-op is this Wednesday, after that I guess they submit my insurance info. It's BC/BS of Florida. I'm hoping for surgery after Christmas, as we'll be out of town and I don't want to mess with the pre-op diet until I'm back home. What's your surgery date? p.s. Is it correct to email you like this or should I have sent you a private email? Thanks.

Hi, I've been lurking for months, getting my insurance documents in order. Suddenly - it looks promising that I'll get banded in January! Yay! I'm a non-insulin dependent diabetic, wondering how I can possible do a sugar-free pre-op liquid diet without having a full blown sugar crash. If I go a few hours without eating anything (like today when shopping) I start getting the shakes until I get my sugar up. How will this work out? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Judy, your post caught my eye, because I'm also 5'1" and almost your weight. Actually I'm about 210, but haven't got my date yet, so haven't had my liquid pre-diet. I'm 59 years old. I'm glad to hear you got to go on mushies so quick, I'm sure I'll be one of the hungry ones post-op. I've been through most of the insurance hoops, so hope to get a date soon. Did everything go smoothly for you?

Greetings from Southwest Florida. I've been reading here for awhile and now I'm pleased to be part of the group. I'm 4 1/2 months into my 6 month diet and am running into a few bumps in the road - hopefully nothing I can't work around. I'm 59 years and 11 months old and holding.
