Today is my six week mark— I have officially lost half of the weight i need to lose to get me to a healthier weight— 12 lbs pre op, the rest since surgery date of 3/3. I am really pleased with my progress so far, still focusing on fluids and Protein, and trying to cut down to one Protein Shake a day vs two. Feeling good and enjoying shopping my closet and resisting buying anything new— goal is to get to 158 be end of April, and 148 by end of May. Fingers crossed the trend continues!
Black tee is a day or two before surgery, white tee is today.

Well. I have had the most traumatic experience and I need to vent. I am almost 2 years post op RNY. December 15 I went to work as usual, by 230pm was in the ER with excruciating abdominal pain. That evening had emergency open abdominal surgery for the dreaded internal hernia / small bowel obstruction. Spent 5 nights in the hospital. Happy to be home for Christmas - but just a week later landed back in hospital for another partial small bowel obstruction! Thank god it resolved on it’s own. But now I am PARANOID to say the least. On blenderized food for 2 weeks… praying this is a one time deal. Looks like this happens in 8-10% of patients (lucky me). Any advice? Has this happened to anyone else?

I had it. It was just a few months of pills and that was all. No interference with surgery

I am 4 weeks and 3 days post surgery - nothing tastes good, following my plan and trying new things to see if finally something will taste good - I've tried meatballs, chicken, turkey, eggs, ricotta bake, LOTS OF THINGS and they all taste horrible - getting frustrated and only applesauce and mashed potatoes taste good enough to be able to eat - I keep reading that this will get better, but I cannot live on these 2 things alone, cannot be good for me! Waiting for April 21st for "regular stage" but don't have much hope that things will taste good then either
Have had a couple break downs and cried, but trying to keep my hopes up!

My surgery was July 20th. In the first few weeks I posted here about how I hadn't lost any weight and was completely regretting the surgery. I didn't lose anything for 3 weeks! But since then I've lost 47 lbs. And the 22 before surgery brings my total to 69 lbs. Things have been going pretty well. It's frustrating at times to find that something that recently agreed with me just won't on a different day! I feel like I'm a slow loser tho, considering my starting weight was 367 I figured a lot would come off quickly. I've just had to adjust my expectations but it bums me out a bit still. It's nice to see that Joanie and Kevin are right around the same amount lost tho. That's reassuring.

Hello July buddies! I'm 5 mos out from surgery. I hope to post a couple of pics here soon. My highest weight was 290 lbs about 2 years ago; I'm now at 175 lbs. I am still losing a pound every few days. I'm learning my triggers and finding new hobbies - which includes cooking! My goal is to be 150 lbs but i'll see what my body tells me to do.
My husband is scheduled for bypass next month. Very excited for him! I'm trying to remember all my tips & tricks to help him out. He says my progress has been a great motivator for him. He's such a sweetheart
I hope you all are doing well & are healthy.
    Merry Christmas!

There are lots of us in the over 60's and some over 70's. All, I think are sorry they did not do it sooner in life. I also am not diabetic anymore and do not need any blood pressure meds. Win win

    Hi all!
I am 5 weeks out of bypass surgery and will turn 61 tomorrow. The healing process has been easier than I expected. I initially went in to get help with my hiatal hernia and severe acid reflux. Long story short, my surgeon told me that bypass would be the best answer for me. I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and have high BP. Both of those are so much better that I am off my diabetes meds already and hoping my BP meds will be reduced soon.
I go for a follow up with my dr. next week. I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. My sister-in-law wants me to join her doing some high intensity workouts with an online program she belongs to. She is very fit already (she is a kick ass police officer) so I have some catching up to do! I want to strengthen my arms, legs and abs to get ready for golf season. I am an avid golfer, not the best in our league but I only started a few years ago. Very competitive chick here!
When I went for a group meeting (others going through the same surgery) with the nutritionist a couple weeks before surgery, I was by far the oldest one in the room which I was just fine with. Just wondering if there are any more of you out there in my age group that are also on this journey.

Had sleeve last this past December at 66. Just getting back into running and strength training. I officiate football and lacrosse. Slowly moving back to both. I have no regrets, best decision I could have made for myself. Dropped diabetes meds day after surgery and down to one BP med (soon to be none). The golf will be a great source of strength and conditioning. Good luck on this journey!

    I had a SADI…
I think you will be fine. The restriction will limit you to about 600-1000 calories per day. That will create a calorie deficit. Weight will come off.

NettyD reacted to catwoman7 in Two days post op
the VSG was once part 1 of the DS. The DS was often done in two surgeries in the past - they'd make a sleeved stomach first, then would go in a few months or a year later and bypass the small intestine. But enough people lost enough weight after surgery #1 that they started offering it as a standalone surgery - and the VSG was born. Long way of saying - doing something like this in two parts should still work fine. I know you're wanting a SADI instead of a traditional DS, but the same should apply.

I am 7 weeks post op and only lost 25 pounds. I haven’t lost a single pound in over 2 weeks. Has anyone else gone through this and then still continued to lose weight? I thought for sure by 8 weeks I would be down 35-40lbs. I am nervous about not losing anymore weight.

It a really hard ask when we have all done diets in the past and failed, but we only need to believe in the process. I was a doubter too. All you need to do is stick to your teams plan and have some patience. After you have stalled a few times and stay away from the scales as much, it will sink in that you are steadily loosing.

I can so relate. I am 52, divorced and single mom of 18 year old son and 13 year old daughter. I also work from home most of the time, so it’s hard to make new friends. All of my close friends live several states away, and my life revolves around my kids activities, work and helping my aging parents. I have told NO one about my surgery— AT ALL. I was self pay in Mexico, and like many didn't want to hear the judgement about it. I did this for me, and no one else.
It’s worked well for me to come here for information and advice from people in similar situation, i hope it offers you an outlet as well.
