I wasn't prepared for my urine to be dark green post-op! I hadn't read a single thing on any forum about this. Apparently the surgeon did something called a methylene blue test to check for pouch leaks during surgery. 4 days post op and still peeing Hulk green 🥴

I use MyPlate. There is no problem moving onto the next day even if your calorie count is very low. I like the app.

Nothing. Not to be a **** head. But, for literally 4-5 months I read everything you could imagine.
Read back for years on this forum and another one. Asked so many questions, talked to people who had WLS. Read every article I could find, even watched a few Utube videos.
I was so prepared. I wanted to know every single thing that MIGHT go wrong. Any side effect, changes that may or may not occur. Literally everything, good or bad.
So, nothing really surprised me although I will say I had about the smoothest recovery you could imagine. Which I am so grateful for!

I'll second the one about medications. Between the supplements and meds I take, it sometimes feels like it takes me all day to get through taking everything. Many nights i stay up too late just trying to get through all the meds!
I knew it would be challenging, but I think I was also expecting to more quickly drop some of my meds. At this point, I dropped my diabetes med and one of my BP meds, but added 2 more (at least temporarily): ursodiol and omeprazole.

    greetings,
those of you post op: what surprised you after surgery? what happened that you didn’t expect or think of?
(gas issues, rate of weight loss, tiredness issues, food intolerances, other people reaction, or whatever else you were not prepared for)

For me, there were two things that surprised me the most, despite reading and hearing about both.
First, I was amazed at the change in hunger sensation. I was (and remain, for the most part) simply not hungry as much anymore. Pre-op - and even at the start of the liquid phase - I felt hungry all-the-time. For me personally, it was one of the biggest contributors to my past diet failures. The "surprise" was a pleasant one, to say the least. It is so refreshing to feel like food is no longer controlling a significant portion of my thoughts throughout the day.
The second thing that surprised me the most, was how little food it took for me to feel full, and how quickly I felt full. True, this was discussed with my healthcare team, and I read about it here and elsewhere, but I don't think I was truly prepared for just how little it takes for me to feel full. Again, another pleasant surprise.

Things that happened that i did not already know or read about beforehand:
    1) 1 month post: my period would come back (i hadn’t had it in 2 years…thought i was in menopause..i was wrong), and continue to come like clockwork every month…im 4 years post now, and its still as regular.
    2) 1-2 months post: my armpit stink would disappear (I don’t even need to wear deodorant anymore)
    3) i no longer needed my ADHD meds. I had to pause taking them after surgery as advised by doc, but discovered i didn’t need to get back on them.
    4) 1-2 months post: super human bladder control. I used to pee 1-2 times an hour during waking hours and got up from bed 4-6 times a night. After 1-2 months i noticed i could sleep the entire night with no bathroom visits and can go for several hours without during day.
    5) 2-3 months post: the endless amounts of energy. In would have thought i would be dead woman waking given the so few calories i was taking in, but it was just the opposite
Thats all i can think of for now. Im sure there were plenty more but its been so long i forget, lol.

Hi, My surgery is on monday so we will be very close on our journey together I will be in the hospital until friday. For me I have made Bone Broth and frozen into cubes for easy heating. I got some collagen protein to add to my Water and Clear Liquids. I also have Jello, sugar free popsicles (otterpops, freezer pop, ice pops-- the ones in the tube). Once I'm allowed all liquids, i will graduate to various broth soups- I have Pho broth cubes, various Cup O Soup packets that I can strain, Miso soup, and a nice clear mushroom soup flavor packet that I can add to the bone broth. I also have clear whey protein in blood orange flavor and a bunch of sample packets of different clear whey protein flavors. Some flavor drops so i can keep things interesting through the period as well.. I will also be adding unflavored whey protein powder to my liquids to make getting my protein in easier once im cleared to do so. Already told my husband to bring me a bottle of water and a sugar-free gatorade when he picks me up- I have a three hour flight from Turkey, and a 1 hour drive from Dusseldorf, Germany to our home in the Netherlands. Probably wont need both, but it will be nice to switch in between the two if possible. I have intentionally not eaten any pumpkin flavored things yet this season so that I will be excited to eat Pumpkin soup when im allowed.

I am new here, too. I love this thread -- for motivation, it is even better than the success stories thread. So inspirational!
For me, it was reaching age 50 and realizing that I spent more than half of my life trying to lose weight. Despite this, I have hypertension, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and my joints are starting to hurt (like an old person! lol). I want to live long enough, and healthy enough, to play with my grandchildren. Another thing is during the pandemic, I lost a few people in my life and every single one of them was obese. That was a wake-up call.
I learned from home DIY projects with my husband that you need "the right tool" to get the job done correctly. So I resolved to get myself the right tool for this job. Fingers crossed!

Could be your Multi Vitamins. They used to make me nauseous & almost vomit most days. Ensure you take them after you’ve eaten & spread them out across the day if you take several. Iron is probably the worst culprit but other Vitamins can cause it too. Try looking for a different t brand or if you take a multi & an iron tablet, you may need to cut down on the iron itself. But talk to your medical team first. Worth trying to see if they’re contributing.

I am hoping (really hoping!) that you are just working out so much that you're gaining muscle to replace the fat lost. Have you measured to see if you've lost any inches?
Re: PCOS, I had this. It was diagnosed by pelvic ultrasound by my Ob-Gyn. But that would not explain why you have stalled for so long after WLS. In fact, PCOS usually improves after WLS.
Controversial, but I know some doctors that perform ESG (the procedure I had) will prescribe medications after the procedure. Maybe ask about that to jump-start the weight loss again?
I am so sorry you are going through this. I can almost hear your stress coming through in your posts. I hope you get some resolution soon!

I have an arthritic back and a bum knee so walking long distances is difficult for me without a rollator or cane. This is how I get my exercise when I'm not at the YMCA pool. "Alinker" walking tricycles are powered by our feet, not pedals or motor. I try to do at least a mile or more daily--on pavement, not gravel! My cat often runs with me around my neighborhood and my friend's little dog sometimes runs with her or rides in her basket.
I’ve had mine for almost two years. I got mine before I started my weight loss journey even though I was well over the recommended weight limit. At first I could only go about 50 feet and my heart would be pounding and I’d be short of breath. There is a steep learning curve. In the beginning they are NOT EASY to ride. but people with Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Rheumatoid Arthritis, amputations & paralysis can use them successfully. I decided so can I! Now I can go 2 1/2 miles at one time but usually go about a mile. I tend to run rather than walk on the level but it's hard work to go up hills! I can go up moderate rises, but if the hill is steep I stand up and walk it or get off and push it. It gets easier with practice. I rode two miles today including a couple of hills. It’s a lot of fun, especially when my cat runs with me. My friend and I are planning to run a 5k next spring with the trikes. I haven't traveled with mine yet but my friend has. She rides hers right up to the jetway at airports and gate-checks it. Alinkers are mobility devices and are permitted anywhere wheelchairs can go. Unfortunately, they are expensive, about $2600 in the US, but they do have a rent-to-own and crowdfunding programs. Sometimes used ones can be found on eBay and elsewhere. A good 2-wheel bicycle is expensive, too, and electric ones are even more pricey. For more information visit the website at alinker.com and Alinker on YouTube. They have a member-only Facebook page also.

Yay! I was avoiding the scale over the past few days and only checked this morning to find myself below 100 kg! I can't remember the last time I was at this weight but I'd say at least 20 years ago. What a pleasant and timely surprise. I turned 40 yesterday. So excited for my next birthday already 😀.

Nearly 1mth update. Still eating correct foods and feeling better every day. Sept 11th I weighed in at 229. Today I weigh 217. I sure dont miss the bigger me. Most folks looked at me before and thought, " He could move a refrigerator!". Now they look and wonder if I hurt myself opening the door to one. lol.
I get asked about any flab from fast weight loss since i was so close to 300lbs. Well I walk alot and do daily stretches. I am actually more tone than i have ever been. I was concerned with it myself at first but the dr assured me skin can still recover with elasticity. But you have to do the work.
I'd gladly help anyone with the prediet I did before the surgery . I managed to lose before I even under went the knife. I have the info scanned and will share with anyone.

We are both in our mid 50's and have had issues with blood pressure and other health negatives. Didn't have the energy to do a whole lot especially with the grandbabies(13 of them). I weighed in at 298 and my wife 265 and had spoken with a doctor about the sleeve surgery. So after several months of testing and pre-diet her packet hit the office first so she went first. I had mine 3wks after hers. We were lucky that my wife works for the hospital and have a team to fall back on and we were fed up with diet regimens and pills that weren't working. I almost backed out after I had lost 20lbs in the pre-diet phase but I knew If i had gotten it done I would've fallen back into the bad foods.
So here we are and its now been nearly a month and a half for me 2 for her. Im at 229, shes at 219. We have allot more energy, we dont obsess over food as we once did and are full faster. The Dr didnt lie about that part. lol. My older daughters don't hardly recognize me from my jolly Santa look I had when i laughed(like a bowl full..you get it). Its hard not to promote the surgery for others when the health benefits this has given us. I would recommend If you are deciding on this to do your homework. Don't run for the border without consulting a local physician. Support is Very important. And Plan to Plan out everything you want to eat. there are great substitutions.
