NP_WIP reacted to liveaboard15 in OFFICIALLY LOST 100LB
decided to hop on the scale a little earlier than usual today. I normally only weigh myself once a month. Sure enough... I have officially lost 100lb in just 6 months post op. So exciting. and this was done basically with almost zero exercising. I work full time and i get home and i go straight to sleep lol. I do need to go shopping for clothes. So yesterday the new Black Adam movie came out. So i was getting dressed to go see it and realized nothing fit. My nicer clothing was too big, I literally wore my work uniform to go to the movies because thats all that fit haha. So i am off today so i am heading to the mall. To the stores that i normally can never go buy anything in because they sell clothes for smaller people. Lets keep this weight loss train going!!! Want to get under 200lb and i am almost there lol. OHHHHHHH and so the movie theater. Its reserved seating and they are very nice comfortable seats that power recline and such. SO before surgery i would normally buy two seats because 1 would be soooo tight that it was not enjoyable. Yesterday i fit in the seat with so much room to spare. Looks like i am going to sign up again for the AMC A list lol

Surgery date Nov 22nd. I'm self-paid so everything is moving fast, just need to do a couple of mandatory classes and in 2 weeks get the surgery clearances. Can't deny I was thinking about Thanksgiving, but I will either be on preop or post op, and I would rather get it done that week that I may not be as busy with work.

I've been lurking this forum for a long time now, both in my phase of questioning WLS as an option for me (for a good few years or more now on and off) and since I started the official process. Happy to say I have a surgery date set for October 20th. I'll be getting the sleeve done. Weirdly, this will also hopefully help resolve a couple of issues I didn't even know I had until recently due to required pre-op testing (such as mild delayed gastric emptying -- had to do a motility test pre-op which is how I found this out). I've been on the liquid skim milk diet since the 6th and it has been absolutely brutal for me. Making me do a motility test that required me to eat scrambled eggs and toast with strawberry jam 5 days into it was also pretty brutal in itself.
I'm looking forward to my surgery though and I'm really looking forward to changing my life. Working out is really hard at my current weight and I'm looking forward to shedding a bit so I can get back to personal training. I've already dropped a good 10+ pounds since I started this process, looking forward to anymore I lose in the future.
    Grateful to be here!

Really having a hard time not falling back into my old way of thinking and eating (or not eating, as it were). My husband pointed out today that I'm restricting again. He said he noticed it Friday and all through the weekend. I've been in a lot of pain because I pulled 2 muscles in my back, have had a lot of stress the last week, and instead of going to over eating like I used to, I fell back into my new "old" habit of restricting. I was worrying I would overeat, and I guess I went right back into my new "fall back" habit of just not eating much of anything.
My husband made notes on what he saw me eating and I had 450 calories and 18 carbs on Friday, 413 calories and 14 carbs on Saturday and 344 calories and 10 carbs on Sunday. I honestly didn't even notice it, and that really freaks me out. I can fall back into it that easily and it doesn't even faze me. I drink so much Water now (flavored only, because plain water is EW) that I honestly didn't even feel hungry. I hate that I swapped one disordered way of thinking for another.
PLEASE pay close attention to your feelings, thoughts, and habits. DO NOT tell yourself that because you're fat/obese/overweight or whatever that you can't develop an ED. Trust me, you can. And it can sneak up on you and smack you in the head when you don't expect it to. I thought I was doing so well. Been logging my food, not cheating, not restricting, doing my therapy, and then BAM. Here we go again. Be kind to yourself, but be mindful and aware.

Those leftover two ounce disposable cups are good later on to measure hummus and sauces/ dressings and stuff. One tablespoon is 0.5 fl oz. Most sauces use two tbsp as a serving so half that cup is one serving. I carry a cooler with me when I am out and about and I always have my Salad Dressing so if I stop for lunch I have my own which is the yogurt dressing so it’s quite a few less calories. Now I actually carry it in a different container and I eyeball it but that is after measuring it in those containers many times first.

I dont think you can be over prepared. I mean I dont even have surgery date and I already want to order every thing and pack a bag!!!😅My surgery will probably not be until January or Feburary. Im a planner so thats what I want to do and the fact that I dont have a date is driving me crazy!!! I want to prep meals for my son and husband so I dont have to cook for the 1st couple of weeks. But my hubby keeps telling me its too early to start making stuff!!

I get joy out of planning things, so I'm in a similar boat. Surgery is 11/22 and I already know what is going in my hospital bag, ordered samples of Vitamins to try, scheduled clearances, ordered the things I need for my preop diet and everyday try to think of what else I can do to be more prepared. Just can't decide if I should get 2oz containers or go to 6oz to get more use out of them, I never realized the smallest I have is 16oz, no wonder one overeats without realizing it.

I still use my 2 ounce containers. They come in really handy for packed lunch sauces/ mayo. Great for having in your bag for emergency food. I never go out without some Protein heavy snack for when my energy levels are low. I put nuts in mine, great for quick grab Snacks. I never needed bigger tubs, just used my own Chinese rice bowls

As of now, I have only told my husband, sister, BFF and business partner. Not even my mom who lives with me.
I feel like family/friends want to have an uneducated opinion or become food police and personally if they didn't bother mentioning what I was eating while digging myself in a grave, I don't want to hear it now. So, I decided it to keep it to myself until it is done, and then it will be on a need-to-know basis.
But I do think there should be no shame in getting the help we need to be healthier and have a better quality of life.

I will still be in puréed foods for Thanksgiving! that bugged me a little, but I keep reminding myself that getting together is more important than what I eat! (though I may make a pumpkin pudding for myself to enjoy!)

    Hello all,

Lurked here for a while over the years. Figured I’d pop in and tell my story.

Former professional American football player (Arena league, not NFL), played one year got injured, used my degree and got a desk job. My playing weight was 330 lb, so I was a big guy most of my life… then I got the desk job… kept eating like a professional football player but sitting on my butt all day. That went on for 10 years. Had to do a physical for work and life insurance. Weighed 390… the nurse asked me if I wanted to lay down after taking my BP 210/150.

Oh and I had my first child a few months earlier…

In that ten years, I had tried every diet in the book. Same old story. Would lose a decent amount of weight if only to add it back, plus some. The BP meds I was put on killed my libido. I was in a dead end job. Something had to give…

I had casually looked into WLS a few times throughout the years, but dismissed it. I thought I was weak minded and just needed more will power. There may be some truth to that, I don’t know. I know in the moment I felt like I could die any moment and it wouldn’t surprise me. I decided to do the surgery.

I was lucky to have insurance that covered the surgery and I could move through the process quickly. This is probably not the best approach for everyone, but it worked for me. I feel like I would’ve sabotaged myself if given longer.

Anyways, had VSG surgery in May 2019. I have a high pain tolerance and recovered quickly. I followed the Dr’s orders to a T. Lost weight quickly. Within 6 months, I went from 390 to 230.

I am now about 225. My weight stays in a range of 225-235. I have come to love the gym, got into CrossFit and love that scene. I stayed in the same career but pivoted to a different path and have almost tripled my salary. Had another kid, and I’m not on any meds.

This surgery really was a life saver for me. Everything has gone spectacularly smoothly and I’ve gotten a new outlook on life and a much healthier relationship with food!

This!! I had people suggest it to me, but I never saw myself needing it. I always thought I could do it on my own, I don't weight that much etc. Yet in those years the weight was creeping on me, every year 20-25lbs here and there.
My sister had it done earlier this year because of the comorbidities that run in our family, and then it hit me. If she was advised to get it and weighs 80lbs less than me, why wouldn't I need it, why after trying for years I still think I can do it on my own? Got all the details I could from her and a close friend who had bypass (she had vsg), and once I understood my why, everything just fell into place.
Now I'm getting ready to have surgery within a month.

    Hi,
New here! What has made me decide and move forward with a consultation for WLS is the realization that I have been putting things on hold for 3 years because I was trying to lose weight on my own. I decided is time to own up and accept that I can't do it and need all the help I can get.
