  1. I like to think its all about balance, so I indulge in popcorn when I go. I do look at the menus before hand, if there is a kid's menu that is not fried I will order from it or order an appetizer to share, there is always salad available or I will eat half a burger, but it will depend on your restriction. I take beef sticks, protein bar and Gatorade zero protein packs, just in case and make sure to hydrate.

    Total Carbs or Net Carbs?

Every doctor has different guidelines. My nutritionist provides net numbers case, and an overall range based on physical activity. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Rice

You will, it may sit differently when you start eating it. I'm not much of a rice person, used to go for the "pegao" with beans, and I still have it sometimes. I find the trick to sticking to a small portion, I still have tostones, maduros, pastelitos etc, but I reduce the portion just to satisfy the craving. PCOS and doing the sleeve

I was not diagnosed with PCOS but I was referred to an Endo, since I was off birth control for 18 months and was not menstruating for 9 months. I ended up not making the appt since I had already decided to go with the surgery. One month post op I got my period and have been regular since. I do know of someone who had the surgery and was pregnant within 6 months post after trying for over 2 years.

    HELP with Vitamins!

Like Sarah, I have to take a B complex with a minimum of 50-100 of B1 in it. Sometimes I interchange them just because of size. B12 has to be sublingual or in shot as we do not absorb them after the surgery. Even if the multivitamin has the other vitamins, you take extra as we are prone to deficiency. If Iron is in your multivitamin you do not need to take an additional pill, unless your lab work says so. Calcium I take a chewable and I take it with the vitamin D since it is supposed to help with absorbtion.

    Messed up preop diet

Do not worry, just start new tomorrow and follow the plan as per your doctor's instructions, you still have 12 days left so make the best out of them. Every doctor has a different preop program, I was allowed food from an specific list while others are not allowed anything other than liquid.

    Poor loss after surgery!

Most people hit a stall 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. There is also retention after surgery because of the IV. Just keep working your program and the weight will come off. Also note you started at a low weight to begin with, so it may be slower but do speak to your team if you are concern. I like this post I saw on Pinterest once, if you keep working at it you will see the results, good luck!

    Movement and liquid diet ideas

I made soup recipes for the family and just strained my portion of it into 3oz containers. I was allowed milk, bean soup, and yogurt during the full liquid, so I made that my main staples. I honestly did not exercise for the first month, and started walking after 5 weeks.
  9. I ate some cucumbers about 6 weeks in, couldn't manage to eat much because my body was reacting to the new texture lol

    Hungry

For me it was normal, I was hungry after surgery, granted I did not feel the urge to eat since I was still swollen etc. I was told by my team that it could be head hunger or the stomach still adjusting the acids. The feeling dissipates once you start eating real food. I got used to an eating schedule that worked for me and now mainly feel hungry if its past the schedule or if I'm behind my fluids.
  11. I was told to have it occasionally when nothing else works since ibuprofen is associated with a higher risk of stomach ulcer and being a sleeve, the risk is higher.
  12. Do not go by the fitbit, I used to have one and it counts your resting metabolic rate, meaning the 3k calories its showing you burned include your breathing and your bodily functions not your calories burned by exercise. It also will randomly record an exercise or activity if you move your hand too much etc. I was advised by my dietician to increase my carb and protein since I was doing HIIT or strength training 4-5 times a week, so now I try to do 80g of protein with a shake. I do for carbs sweet potato, quinoa, protein bread or wrap, oatmeal (fiber) and cream of wheat. I tend to weight more or less the same when I train hard since there is water retention for muscle repair, so make sure you are drinking above the recommended 64oz to avoid this. It also helps to look at your weight total per month, not by week or weigh in when you are training, and to start taking your measurements to help see how your body is changing.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello! Haven't posted in a while, but everything has been going great. Almost at my final goal and just trying to build muscle and tone up. Hope every one is doing well.
  14. Went on a cruise, wore shorts and dresses all week no chaffing, I went snorkeling and remembered how to swim, and walk everywhere with no issues.
  15. I was able to have yogurt for my post op liquid, see if you can and add some water to dilute if too thick. If you use greek yogurt (Oikos triple zero or ratio) you are looking at 15 to 25g of protein. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Reheating food

I have only had issues with chicken breast, since it tends to dry out when reheating in the microwave. Have to make sure you are eating it slowly and chewing it completely. Otherwise I reheat everything, but bring it out to room temperature first so reheating is less than a minute in the microwave. You can always add some sauce or broth if its too dry.
  18. I love fall just for the Pumpkin spice anything lol I have been on Pinterest the last few weeks eyeing variations on how to make this lighter. I usually don't do coffee shops even before surgery, but have some gift cards to use. I did finally find Premier Pumpkin spice and have been using that in my morning coffee all week.
  19. A few NSV, I can finally close the towel around me, my hubby folded my tank top and put in his drawer thinking it was his, and my digital scale kept giving me a warning to have the app open when weighing in because people were within same range, I thought it was me because I was trying to see how much my weight fluctuated and how that affected my body fat % but turns out I'm 8 lbs lighter than my husband.

  21. Prior to surgery, I was walking, but not consistently. I will walk one week, then stop for two, then start again etc. Once I decided to do the surgery, I do not recall trying to follow any exercise program. I did not start walking until about 6 weeks post op, 2x a week. I was cleared by that time for strength training but still had some minor tingling in the big incision so was advised to do core exercises as I could handle them. I had all intentions to start a strength training program I had purchased end of January but did not start until March and have been following consistently. This consist of strength training with weights and resistance bands, 5x a week and depending on the week range from 30min to 45 min. Loose skin depends on too many factors to determine. I was told by my doctor that anyone who is loosing over 100lbs will have loose skin, the severity will vary by those factors. I personally thought I will have more loose skin, but being 20lbs or so from goal, I feel like I only have in my arms and breast, the other areas are not that much and I feel like by building muscle they will look a little better. Note that if you do decide to start adding strength training to your exercise routine, the number on scale will be different as you are gaining muscle and loosing inches. Some people have a hard time with that. I personally have shifted my focus to body composition instead of the number on the scale since I'm 8 months post op and reached my original goal weight.
  22. I will agree with logging what you are eating and reviewing that. I have not myself gained, but when I felt I didn't loose enough in a week, I realized I was either short on protein or water those days. Also exercising will change your weight on the scale as you retain liquid for muscle recovery.

    Cellulite

I have been using an oil for a few months but not as religiously as I should. It has changed the appearance of it, not sure if reduced per se since I do not look at them too much, and I started doing resistance training when using it. November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello!! I thought July was slow but ended up with over 9lbs lost, that goes to show when we review what we are doing and something doesn't align, we can fix it. I have hit 100lbs lost since contacting the surgeon's office. I can't believe it has been a little over 8 months and that it happened, honestly I thought it was impossible which is why I had originally chosen 180 as my goal. Hope everyone is close to hitting their goal, and if you have congratulations!
