  1. Hi - 5 weeks post op from Gastric Bypass. I am having bloating in my abdomen and discomfort (feeling full ALOT).. Sometimes I have nausea. I understand this can happen after I eat but this is sometimes when I wake up (10+ hours since eating) I am also struggling to have bowel movements. I took a stool softener every day before surgery to help but I've been told not to take since somedays are mainly diarhea. I am losing weight but worry. Thoughts?

    Is this normal?!

So glad you are feeling better. I had my surgery last week also. Lets learn together. PS. The Co2 gas was a killer. I put some music on and did a dance party sitting on my hospital bed (moving my upper body and then legs) to try and get it out. It helped. I had pain on the top of my shoulder (left) for several days. I heard this can be from gas. I used my TENS machine to help that - glad it is gone now.
  3. I got groceries yesterday and made butternut squash puree from frozen package. It was very good for lunch but I was super hungry for dinner. I microwaved a potato and pureed it into the squash to try and help fill me up. Now the cheating: -I ate peanut butter crackers before going to bed - the small 9 pack (crackers are orange) -This was after having 2 popsicles (1 before/1 after dinner) and I ate (1) ravioli (My kids had ravioli lasagna) I also increased my fluid intake quite a bit and had to take larger sips last night to get some pills down - one got caught somewhere. I knew what I was doing was wrong but I knew fluids and chewing would dissolve the crackers which it did. Welcome to my relationship with food - eat it/hide that you did/suffer later physically and emotionally. This gets worse around my cycle which I have currently. I went to bed full and burping a little. I expected to be in pain or throw up but neither and I slept pretty well. This morning I am extremely full, feel bloated and have no desire to eat or drink. Im also a little more winded - happens when I drink too much (fluid issues with heart and lungs). I plan to take things slow today but any advice? I don't want to tell my family - I feel like such a failure. This was day 4 postop.
  4. Thanks. Yes I've tried the Fair Life drinks - love them and then the aftertaste hits. My mother in law says they are good slightly frozen. I may have to try that. I've been counting Jello and Broth, now strained soup as meals.
  5. I am 4 days post op (Gastric Roux and Y). Eating Jello/Broth and added strained soup yesterday. I'm not getting any protein or enough fluids. I can't stand store bought protein shakes. I have recipes for amazing shakes after GB but do I count these as a meal or part of my fluid intake or both? Same question with popsicles (meal, fluid intake or both)? I read about people sipping on their protein shakes but I don't know which category they are using them for. Also are there any snacks allowed. Everything I have says just meals but then things like string cheese are listed as acceptable. Does String Cheese count as a meal and why is it listed as full liquid diet food? Do you batch cook and then freeze for later? Container recommendations? Can you freeze DIY protein shakes?
