Possum220 reacted to rmp09 in Absolutely hate myself now
It seems that I am literally the only one who 100%completely regrets this surgery. I have never hated myself this much in my life. I was so obsessed with this weight loss crap for 3 yrs and now 6 weeks healed from VSG and I hate life completely now. I will never be or feel like myself again and feel I don't deserve anything good ever again. This was the worst decision of my life and I keep having ptsd flashbacks of wishing I had never done this..that I canceled when I had the chance. Why am I the only one who fully regrets this.. I can't be the only one in the world who regrets it completely...

I never would have even known to look into it at all, so thank you for telling me about it. I feel so much better with 2 weeks off. I feel like I can relax, sleep, go at my own pace.

That is very normal. Each incision goes through skin, fat, muscle, etc. They are small, but they are VERY deep, and they take time to heal completely. Rest, use a pillow to brace for coughing/sneezing, and take meds to stay ahead of the pain if you need them. Thankfully, the pain usually subsides within a week or two. Hang in there!

It’s been almost 9 months for me, it’s a 6 month program. Hospital has been working on a selective surgical schedule until recently due to the Pandemic and have been behind. I started my liquid diet yesterday. My program technically Ended in February as eligible. Don’t bank on anything so you don’t get upset. I wish you the best of luck

    LOL! Monday, Tuesday…🤣…whatever!
Don’t question the ‘not scared’ part…just enjoy it!
I agree with you about feeling excitement at taking back your life. It’s only the past 10 years that my weight became an issue. I was underweight most of my life…I was a long distance runner. Then fertility drugs, thyroid issues, etc., etc., and ⚡️100 lbs overweight. I can’t wait to get my life back.
A close friend of mine had the sleeve in October. She’s down 90 lbs and says she has never felt better. And she looks amazing! I’m so ready! No surgery date yet, but 5/16 I have a visit with the surgeon and we should be able to set a date at that appointment. I’m hoping for 6/13 or after because school is out by then.
Good luck to you on Tuesday! 🤗

As a RN my perspective is a little different. I want whatever method my surgeon feels is best for the true variable:me. Each patient has their own complexities and surgeons are trained to deal with them. I’ve been a nurse long enough I have seen some procedures switch from open to lap to robot. Surgeons that utilize robotic assistance still need to be trained in other methods. My cardiologist told me to go with the surgeon I feel comfort and trust in and to me that means the one that will see me as a person and not a number to just perform a surgery on. That would include trust in which method is best and reduces risk for me.

I was daunted by doing 2 weeks of the the liquid diet. I wondered how I would manage it. Now that I am 6 days into it I have to say it is not that bad. It is exciting to eat new vegies for me. ( My eating habits have not been the best for years). Nice to have shakes and Soups and bars. Nice new Lemon Creme Dessert. From the Optifast Program. I also thought other things might be and issue but they really haven't eventuated.
Yes I am hungry but this is okay when you keep yourself busy. The headaches can be dealt with by pain meds and the nausea for me is helped by ondansetron. My original doubt has been replaced by - Yes, I can do this. I will be okay. It is going well.

Hi everyone. I found this forum while trying to research the gastric surgery options. Both my GP and my GYN have suggested a sleeve because of my weight gain and the depression it causes. I will be 50 years old in August and every time I think about how I have struggled with my weight all my life, I start ugly crying.
I am 5'2" and 212lbs which is the heaviest I have ever been. I feel old and tired and cant reach my feet.
I am terrified of getting this surgery. I have been able to get to a healthy weight only once after having my kids and it was a very strict low carb diet and working out 5 days a week but I was not able to sustain it and it only lasted about a year before I crashed and then Covid happened and I gained more, then my mom died and I gained more.
I am reading how stressful the pre-op liquid diet is, and how much pain is suffering from post-op gas and its just worrying me more. My first appt with a gastroenterologist is in 3 weeks.

pain is all across the board, but most people have very little pain after these surgeries. And if you're one who does, you'll have pain meds for it so you can keep on top of it. It just lasts for a few days at most, and again, you'll have meds for it (I never bothered to open the bottle they sent me home with since I really didn't have any pain).
the liquid diet isn't pleasant, but it's temporary. And not all surgeons require it.

Day 2 is done, now on day 3. Hubby went to the store and bought me some V8 (I love the stuff), some sugar free iced tea, and some pho broth (my absolute FAVORITE). It's really helped. And tomorrow he's ordering chinese food for dinner and getting me wanton Soup (my other favorite - but I won't be eating the wantons, sadly). He's really going above and beyond to help me get through this diet, and I just love him even more for it. Surgery is 5 days away. I got this!!!

I've been walking. Maybe it's just not enough. It's not as bad today as it had been the last couple of days. I actually got some sleep. So hopefully I'm getting a little better.

Well. I had my surgery this morning. Yes gas pains are awful. I feel pretty good except for the pain in my shoulders and neck. They fixed a hernia. So he admitted me. I will be staying over night. I'm fine with that. We packed overnight bags just in case. So we are good.

Possum220 reacted to Queen ApisM in How to respond when people comment on your appearance after surgery?
@Splenda gave great advice and that's how I am approaching it. I have had a few people comment that I look great. Since they aren't people I prefer to share my business with (they are work acquaintances), I just say that I have been focusing on me and getting healthy. They haven't pried and just were encouraging about keeping it up. They may suspect surgery, but I don't care.
My plan for anyone who finds out it is WLS and has a negative opinion is to basically tell them that once they become my physician, they can have an opinion on my medical decisions, and until then, they don't get that privilege.

Here is how I handled it.
    1. If they don't ask what you did, don't tell them. If someone says I look great, I just say, "Thank you. That is very kind."
    2. While I did not announce my WLS, if someone directly asks what I did and I am reasonably sure they would be supportive, I tell them. I might be the only person they know who has had WLS and I want them to see someone succeeding so maybe they will be supportive of the next person they meet who has had WLS or is considering it.
    3. If someone directly asks and I doubt whether they will be supportive, I would just say, "Oh, I'm eating right and exercising." Which is true.
    4. If someone found out I had WLS and accused me of taking the easy way out, I would very blandly reply, "Isn't the most important thing that I find a way out?"

Possum220 reacted to Tufflaw in Went on vacation for a week, first time since surgery - and I LOST weight!
Just as a preface, I had the sleeve in Dec. 2016 and dropped about 120 lbs in 6 months, then screwed up and slowly went back up almost to where I started. I had a revision to bypass in Nov. 2021 and have been doing very well, about 80 lbs down so far.
Last week was spring break for my kids so we decided to take a vacation, my first since the most recent surgery. We went to Virginia (drove from NY). I was very worried for a few reasons. First, I weigh myself every single day (yes I know some recommend against it, it works for me). I didn't want to bring my scale so it would be a week without monitoring my weight loss (or gain). Second, I rarely eat out and I weigh everything I eat when I make it. I wasn't going to be bringing my food scale and I knew I'd have to eat out more than usual. Finally, we were going to a lot of places where there weren't the healthiest options to eat. So I resolved to try my best not to blow it and see what happened.
We stayed at a timeshare resort which had a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, utensils, pots/pans, etc) which was fantastic because we were able to go shopping for a lot of stuff to make in the room so I knew exactly what I was eating. I was able to make my usual Breakfast (2 scrambled eggs with shredded cheese) almost every morning. I bought a few pre-packaged salads and some other stuff for the room. I only had to actually eat out 4 or 5 times the entire trip, not counting during the drive to and from VA.
When we ate out I was able to check the calories for what I was eating to make a healthier choice, and made sure to stop when I was full instead of cleaning my plate. I was able to find something to eat at both Waffle House and Cracker Barrel that wasn't too horrible. Even at Busch Gardens we went to the German area restaurant and I got something called a German Chef salad that was pretty good and not too heavy or unhealthy. Bonus at Busch Gardens: Last year (pre-surgery) we went to an amusement park and I wasn't able to ride most of the roller coasters because I just couldn't fit - no problem at all this time, got in with room to spare!
I stayed away from Snacks and Desserts (I got Halo Top ice cream for the room to have at night). When we got back I was concerned what the scale might say, but I was down 2 lbs from when we left, so I'll consider that a win!
I had a nice NSV before the trip too - I was looking for clothes to bring and found a bunch of shirts I got when I lost all the weight the first time, and they all fit comfortably and looked great. Before the surgery I wore XXL shirts, and even those were getting a little snug, I even had one XXXL I think. Lately I've been wearing XL's which were getting roomy, all the shirts I found were L and fit great, so that was awesome. I also had to buy a new pair of jeans that was 4 sizes smaller and fits great. I found my old bathing suits which were too tight last year, now half are too big and the rest fit OK (almost too big but not quite yet).
So it's been a good week, hoping to continue on my path to onederland again! Here's a pic of the family having fun.
