    4 Days Post Op

I had surgery on May 2nd. Anytime I drank or moved, my stomach was roiling with acid and gas. I called it my witch's cauldron. I was concerned as I saw so many that didn't seem to have this issue after surgery. Once I got to week 2 with full liquids (yogurt, protein shakes, etc.) and I could consume more items of substance, this improved greatly and is now not an issue. Hopefully yours will improve too.

    May 2022 surgery?

I’m glad all went well with your surgery. Great job on the liver shrinkage too! Hopefully things will continue to improve with the gas pains.

    May 2022 surgery?

They’ve given me acid meds and even something to reduce swelling. The only thing that seems to help something called dilaudin but they are trying to avoid giving it to me because it’s a hospital-only narcotic. I can’t take it when I eventually go home.

    May 2022 surgery?

I had my surgery Monday and was supposed to go home today. They are keeping me another night though. My nausea has gotten worse despite the numerous meds they’ve given me. I can’t even really get water down. Let alone broth, etc. at least the IV should prevent dehydration.

    May 2022 surgery?

My surgery was at 9:30 am yesterday morning. When I woke up, I felt very nauseated and had quite a bit of pain in my stomach. I took several meds before surgery and after for nausea but they didn’t really help, although I didn’t throw up so maybe they did. I did not experience the dreaded gas pains fortunately. Surprisingly, they didn’t push me to walk much. When I did try I could only walk halfway down a hall and had to turn around - I was just so weak. I ended up sleeping most of the day. strangely they also wouldn’t allow me to drink anything and my mouth was sooo dry. I could only use a sponge swab in my mouth which didn’t walk much. I’m hoping to be able to drink today. My symptoms didn’t improve after surgery until they gave me a pain med - I think it was called alordum or something like that. Never heard of it and I’m sure I’m not selling correctly. they gave me a pain ball with two tubes going about 4-5 inches into my mid section for numbing. On day 4, I will need to pull the tubes out. I should be able to go home today.

    May 2022 surgery?

I’m a bit nervous too. With the surgery and the immediate aftermath. It seems some have no issues or complications and others have a harder time with nausea, acid, etc. Hopefully all will go smoothly for us both tomorrow!

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm on day 4 of my 2-week liquid diet. It has been rough. I'm not a fan of the broth but found that adding a bit of soup base and seasonings helps. I get now why people have posted about mourning their former life (even though I haven't even had surgery yet). There's no way around this though, I just have to keep pushing through. It's comforting to know that others are going through this with me!

    May 2022 surgery?

My pre-op testing was yesterday and I developed sinus/cold end of last week. I even went to urgent care on Easter and got a steroid shot and antibiotics. I was so worried that yesterday they would tell me my surgery would need to be postponed. They ended up reassuring me that it was OK and my surgery would proceed as scheduled as long as I wasn’t sick on surgery day. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm with you both too! Surgery May 2nd and started liquid diet yesterday. I had pre-surgical testing yesterday and had to sign off on a bunch of scary paperwork with my surgeon!
  12. I've heard that many people with sleep apnea no longer have it at some point after surgery. My question - how do you know you no longer need to sleep with your CPAP machine? Do you need to take another sleep study? My surgery isn't until May 2nd but wanting to know what to expect in the future...

    Sleep Apnea

I don't mind mine either - it helps me to avoid dry/sore throat in the winter. I would like to know if I would have the option to sleep without it in the future. My surgeon said most people no longer need to use the machine after surgery.

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm hoping we can! With the amount I have to lose, I would be interested in the bypass but I have Crohn's Disease and my surgeon wanted to do the sleeve.
