Tips Please! Soda, Eating too fast, drinking while eating
Good morning everyone, I too use to be a pepsi freak....I loved it. But maybe two three years ago I gave it up. Went from Reg Pepsi to Diet Pepsi, went though the headaches of diet pepsi until I realized it doesn't matter soda is soda...it's just bad for you all the way around. So I gave it up. I am a coffee drinking and water with a lemon. I'll make greentea as iced tea allot to. But I could go all day without drinking before...now I can't I actually get thristy. BUt I took eat too fast at times and I will PB allot and sometimes I end up bringing back up. I have learn some what. I do have days were I eat so great and others I over eat. I don't write down though. My first fill was Oct 3rd, at first I didn't think it was anything until I ate chicken, turkey or beef O I knew. If I swallow my drink to fast it will come up and it hurts...if I take a bite and follow with another before the first bite goes down it comes up. I still have allot to learn. But all your posts help so much. I thank everyone on here. We all need each other. Thanks I am still learning to eat less eat slow small bites.

Oops! Eating too much and or too fast???
O I don't bring food back up because I want to. It's if you eat to fast take to big of a bite it will get stuck and the only thing you can do is walk around and spit it back out. You can't even swallow your saliva. It hurts to in your chest. It's taking me a while to slow my eating up and chew small pieces. I do great most of the time there is just these times when I am talking and just not paying attention and I put to big of a bite in or I don't chew right and it will get stuck....sometimes walking around helps and it will go down other times you spit it back out. But no one does this because they want to. It's a learning process. I have learn allot of what I do when I eat. Now I am learning to enjoy my food. I only eat 1 cup to 1 cup and half for my breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'll have a couple snacks though the day. A sugar free pudding, or my frozen protein shake. I freeze half of my protein shake so I have a treat after dinner. Do you write down...keep track of what you eat? Lisa

Oops! Eating too much and or too fast???
Well if I am talking and not paying attention and I take a small bite then put another small bite in my mouth it will get stuck and it hurts so bad. I also tried to drink something my first time I did that and you can't swallow at all. I went into the bathroom and brought it back up. But the pain stays for a little bit. It sucks......you always have to pay attention I have done this a handful of times. Now I am starting to know that there are certain foods I just can't eat. But yeah for me it's not gas it's food stuck. It hurts right allot I hate it. I can't eat shrimp any more I have tried so many times and it comes right back up. Chicken, Turkey, Steak, certain breads I can not swallow. The meat I cut into tiny tiny pieces and I have to eat it slow one at a time. All kinds of stuff. I hope things are going better.

Dr Balsama didn't let me go back to work for three weeks. I can't believe you went back to work already. How do you feel?

Southern Jersey...Anybody?
Hello Blanka, It's okay I don't come on here as I use to....I check it out see what people are saying and get off. I am on and off. lol I am at 20 lbs and I think it bothers me. I feel I should have lost more weight then this already. I feel restricted on something and other foods I don't. I workout allot...between Latin dancing and hip-hop Monday nights (2 hours) and Wii Fit like almost every morning for 30 mins and Belly dancing Thursday nights and in between that just plan old gym you would think I would be down in weight...but no. I did lose inches...but still. I called the Dr. Balsama's office yesterday to talk to Kelly the nurse there and let her know how I feel. I don't think I am eating wrong...I don't write down thou. If I eat something too fast or too big it just comes back up anyway. It's too early for another fill, so I have to see when she calls me back. It seems my weight is just staying there I started at 216 lbs and just down to 196 lbs since Aug 5th. I must be doing something wrong. I think I need to write down and I hate that. I don't eat over my 1 cup 1/2 I have had some junk but nothing that would matter. I eat as healthy as I can. But some days I feel so hungry other days I have to force myself to eat. I just don't know. I here that it takes a while to reach your "sweet spot" whatever that is. I hear it takes awhile for your body to adjust. My clothes are loose and I am fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into in a very long time. But weight wise I feel I should be down. lol sorry venting on myself lol I hope all is good for you. Did you get filled yet and how do you feel?

How slow is weight loss with the band? Who writes down what they eat?
Thnak you all very much.....I guess this all just plays with your head. The thought of finallt losing weight....sounds so good and I know it will come. I do think I need another fill. I am going to wait another week and then call my doctor. I do eat right I have always been on the more heathly side of food.....it's portion size for me and if I am at a party or something I pick. Learn to stop that. But being filled has stopped me from using a big dish and eating seconds. I eat to fast too. I have almost learn to slow up getting there. I just want to see weight come off. It drives me nuts.

How slow is weight loss with the band? Who writes down what they eat?
I guess I should get in the habit and write down. I really hate it. I should try. I'll have to get myself a journal. I guess and keep it with you always. I am not good at this part. I feel like I should have been down more weight then only 20 lbs. Since I was banded August 5th and First filled Oct 3rd. So I feel I am doing something wrong and I know I can over eat. That I am eating the wrong foods. I do workout. I have lost allot of inches. I know me and I know I am not doing what I am suppose to do. Couple of weeks ago I let myself go and started back on the wrong road. Well I guess I need to pay more attention to myself. I need to write my food intake and calories down. I just never really feel full.

Daily Calories
I have not counted how many calories I take in. Maybe I should. I feel like it's taking me forever to loss weight. Banded Aug 5th and first fill Oct 3rd. Only down 19 lbs and I feel like I am eating good. But maybe I am not.

How slow is weight loss with the band? Who writes down what they eat?
Seems like my weight is taking forever to come off. Banded Aug 5th, first fill Oct3rd. Only down 19lbs. I believe I am eating right. I go to the gym I am never just sitting around. Does anyone else seem to be moving slow on the weight loss with the band? Maybe I need to write down.

How do you know your ready for next fill?
Amy, Thanks I wasn't sure really. Everyone can see the difference but I feel like I really haven't lost allot of weight. Down under 20lbs since Aug 5th, and I know it is good and I have lost inches. I don't know I feel like it should be more. I can eat up to a 1 cup 1/2 half of food which is what I am suppose to eat. Some things I eat get stuck so I know I am restricted. I was filled Oct 3rd. The doctor said this might be all I need. That I might need another fill. I see some people on here get way more then one. I am afraid to stretch the pouch, so I am careful. Sometimes I can eat...allot for having a band but not from how I could in the past. So i guess at this point I am fine and I don't need a fill...I will wait and see. Thank you
-
How do you know your ready for next fill?
Yeah I only lost a little over 20 lbs since Aug 5th when I was banded I still weigh my food out and I go to the gym and it seems like I am losing nothing....I did lose allot of inches which is great. What is the "sweet spot" ?

First Fill Stories!
Hello, Friday will be my two weeks of my first fill. I am still learning on eating slow and chewing and getting better with all that. Drinking is something I need and I will wai until after I eat but I do take a couple of sips. I am to thirsty not too and it drives me nuts. I have to drink. I am learning of certain foods I can not eat, they get stuck. It's weird I went to the diner and had Breakfast with my sister in law after the gym and I had a omlete w/spinach no toast no has browns but I did have the cheese. I ate very slow and chewed no problems with eating that. I make scrabbled eggs at home one egg one egg white no cheese just plain and it gets stuck, I just don't get it. I have to really take take small bites and chewed them good and wait awhile before the next bite, then I am full. But I guess that's how it is.

Southern Jersey...Anybody?
Hello Blanca, Nice name. I was banded on Aug 5th. I didn't have to diet before at all, and I didn't I ate what I wanted up until three days of my surgery. I was fine after, very sore. My port was sore for a long time. I dropped 17lbs before my first fill. I was just over 200 lbs when I had my band put in, just made it with ins. By the time my 6 week came I was hungry just like I never had the band put in. I went to see Dr. Balsama to see when my first fill will be on my 6th wek and I had two wait two weeks because he was on vaca err. I was a wreck, I was hungry and unhappy. I delt with it but I was nervous I would eat and gain weight. But I did it I actually lost another 1 lb 1/2. Oct 3rd I was filled at Kennedy Surgical in Washington Twp. It was great and everyone was great. I was scared and didn't know what to expect. But it was so nothing getting filled it was great. All the nurses and Dr. Balsama had me laughing and they all made me feel so awesome. I waited for my turn longer then my fill time. I have lost inches allot of inches for the first time...I don't have a scale just WII Fit lol and I haven't weighed myself. I think I am going to wait until this Saturday to see what I lost. I really hate the scale....if I have one here I will weigh myself everyday and every time I look at it lol. All my clothes are big on me....I don't wear an XL shirt anymore, of course my boobs went down lol but oh well. I go to the gym a few times a week too. But losing inches that was allot for me, I haven't lost inches in so long. Is your port sore? it took me a long while before it stopped being sore....I can feel it...I feel it all the time. Weird to have that in you. I found out that I am the fastest eater ever, lol This is a big learning process for me. I got sick like three times from not eating slow and chewing very solw and there are stuff you just can't eat. You will see but it's great. Let me know how you are doing. You can email me on my email if you want. Lisa

Southern Jersey...Anybody?
Hi Lola, I love Dr. Balsama lol he is great he is so young and he is cute lol Everyone at Kennedy treated me so awesome. You were just bamded, right? How are you feeling? I feel great just getting use to my first fill and on my second week of it and learning to chew chew chew and eat so very slow. So when you read about eating slow and chewing believe it....I already have eaten to fast and my food has been stuck were I had to bring it back up. This week I am doing better, even though it's just Monday. I have allot to learn on eating slow. Hope your doing well. Lisa

Tiny Bites! Chew! Chew! Chew!
I am on my second week of my first fill and doing better but still forget that I have to take it so very very slow I am learning it's crazy. I guess this all takes time.

Tiny Bites! Chew! Chew! Chew!
I read and I read all of this before I was filled and now I know tiny bites and chew, chew, chew. It makes all the difference. I had food come up on me three times and it hurts. I am learning slow...very slow. I am a fast eater and I slowed up after I was banded and thought I was eating slow and chewing. No! I needed to go even slower and take smaller bites. Makes a big difference. No one likes to "Puke" or have all that saliva come back up in your mouth. EWW! So listen to yourself....tiny bites...chew chew chew lol It's all true

Southern Jersey...Anybody?
How are you feeling Julie? I am better now that I am filled lol finally. Learning to eat slow and take tiny bites so I don't bring it back up. I don't have scale (have to buy one) yet. I know I was down 17 lbs after surgery that was 8 weeks, just past my nine weeks. My clothes are getting big. It's been the best thing I ever did for myself. I hear more and more people getting The Lapband now, so many people. Have a great weekend everyone

First Fill Stories!
I am not sure how much I have in me but it is hard to get down tiny pieces. I have to find out I thought he said 2cc but I wasn't pay any attention just looking at my insides
-
First Fill & Stuck Food
Yeah I rush when I eat and I don't pay attention either. I am learning it's so hard. It's good for me too, at least I can relax and enjoy what I eat instead of rushing and never tasting. So this is good, I didn't even realize how bad I was with eating fast. I believe I had 1cc in me and I was filled 2cc not sure I was to busy watching the ultr sound machine and my insides then pay attention to my doctor. lol Lisa
-
First Fill Stories!
Had mine 8 weeks out....I had an ultrsound done with the nasty drink. Went to the surgical center and the night before I had to stop eating after misnight, just clear liquids. Had to lay down on surgical table...numbed me and put the needle in. I had to stand up and they put the ultrasound machine around me. It was the coolest ever I was able to see inside me...loved it. Standing with the needle in me lol (Pulp Fiction moment) I had to drink the nasty stuff and it got stuck, so he took some out took a sip and it went down fast so he added a tiny bit more and perfect. I am just learning small small bites and wait inbetween each one so nothing gets stuck. It hurts when it gets stuck. I was down 17lbs since banded and I will weigh myself on Saturday to see what my first week of my first fill weight loss is. I really haven't eaten much.

First Fill & Stuck Food
Hello....banded Aug 5th First Fill Friday 10/03. So far down 17 lbs. Not weighing myself Until one week has past. Anyway after being filled I was fine, little sore. But when it comes to eating that's something different. If I eat chicken, turkey, beef it comes back up. If I eat certain veggies they come back up. Mashed potatoes go down yogurt soft foods. Not all the time but I guess it will take time to eat slow, chew food slower..just enjoy and take my time. I am learning. But now I know when I read about fills and the BP's and the saliva and all that...it's me. I really have to pay attention to the size of food and how I chew. Does this come to an end or is it how it is when you are restricted? I mean I know this but does it get easier? I am glad and very happy with my band I am just waiting for the weight to come off and I really use to like to eat but with food geting stuck I find myself not wanting to eat. (sometimes) I guess this is normal. I have a shake (protein) in the morning...small snack tuna (which will get stuck) my lunch which is a meat veggies, mashed potatoes, or rice. Maybe a cup of food. sugar free pudding..dinner which is almost the same as lunch...I eat allot of tofu. I freeze half my shake for a treat at night. But the tuna gets stuck, chicken, turkey, beef so I find myself not wanting it. Carrotts even cooked get stuck, broc too I am finding things to eat but it takes me forever to eat. I think I had 2cc and it was done my ultr sound so I watched the whole thing (pretty cool) But the first sip got stuck and the doctor took some out and the next sip went down fast I asked him to add a bit more and that sip went down slow. But that's what I wanted. Oh well I will go on and on. Lisa
