  1. Has anyone tried doing the weight loss shots? My surgery was just over a year ago and I still haven’t lost 50lbs. I started out with a lower BMI. So my surgeons are ok with where I’m at but I’m not. So I’m looking into the shots to help me a long. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck

TBH I would want to be looking for a new team. I am shocked by how low your calorie count is. I am also shocked by how accepting your team is of this low calorie count.

I know lots of people on this forum do not get to their goal weight, which is why I set mini goals. Many are heartbroken by this and go off the rails. Have they said your goal weight is attainable for you?

You started at a lower weight than me and I understand that it is harder for lighter people to loose the weight. I did your ideal BMI on a NHS site [ Your USA one may differ] For you it says 120lbs to 159 lbs for a normal weight. So 150 should be attainable. But would I want to stick on 700 calories a day, no. It does not seem healthy

I was told that I needed to be at about 1200 cals a day to loose now and to go up from there to find a maintenance point when I am happy with my weight. How can being on 700 calories for the rest of your life be good for you? If you are over that you gain? You must be starving. It seems totally wrong and very punishing. I wish I could hug you

From what I understand since I’m still under the 1year mark is the reason for the lower calorie. Honestly at this point I’m scared to even up my calories. When I add back different foods I gain weight. Now I’m just not losing. I feel stuck in the 170s. I’ve been here since November

I’m sorry you are going through this frustrating time.

Just throwing a few things out there. I could be widely off the mark but …

Are you eating a good balance of food so you get in a range if nutrients? I’m guilty of having the odd yoghurt meal or Protein only meal but it’s balanced by the variety of food I eat for my other meals throughout that day. Your body needs a variety of nutrients, Vitamins & enzymes to be able to digest & absorb the nutrients, Vitamins, etc from what you eat.

Do you predominately eat low or no processed foods i.e. a whole food diet?
Do you consume a lot of artificial sweeteners?
What does your blood test show in relation to vitamins & Proteins, glucose, cholesterol, etc.?

Have you had a liver scan or other tests?

Have you spoken with your surgeon or just the dieticians?
Could there be an absorption issue?
Maybe your body needs more of certain food types like carbs to function more effectively?

The stress & anxiety you’re feeling could be contributing. Certainly adding to your Hair loss I’d think. Viscous cycle in play.

Our bodies usually work to protect us but sometimes can work against us too.

    All the best.

Honestly when I started adding foods like grilled chicken and other veggies I started noticing that my weight increased. I’ve lost a few of those pounds but not all. I’m not back eating just yogurt and drinking Protein Shakes. Occasionally I’ll eat grilled chicken and veggies but I limit it now.
My Vitamin levels are good. All blood work is good.
yes I’ve talked to my wl team. They haven’t been much help ( in my opinion) they just seem to not believe me 🤷🏼‍♀️
Yes I do have artificial sweeteners. One coffee a day with Splenda and sugar free Creamer. Sugar free Jello and sugar free redi whip
Very little processed food is in my diet. I will eat cheese with my veggies or chichen when I do eat that. Unless what I said above is considered processed. I eat no lunch meat or Protein Bars.
My team has me on low calorie low carb and I stick to it. But occasionally I might go over but it’s not daily or even every other day. I weigh my food and don’t go over the 6 oz of food per meal

I get 80 oz of Water a day.

  4. Oh y’all. It’s been a little bit since I’m been on this forum. I’m struggling with any weight loss. It’s like I’ve hit a wall for the last 3 months. This is my stats.
    SD 4/26/22 / SW 216 / CW 175 / GW 130 / age 50

My team has me under 700 cal and less than 20 carbs a day. I use to basically eat yogurt for almost every meal 🤷🏼‍♀️. But my team say I wasn’t getting enough Protein and my body was probably bored and that was causing my slow down in weight. So they had me to mix things up. So I started eating more protein (meats, chicken etc) well then I started started gaining 😡. My last weight in back in January was 173. I gained up to 180 when adding back food. Now I’m down to 175 but I can’t get the scale to move. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😑. My hair is still falling out and I’m definitely getting my protein and my Vitamin levels are good. I just don’t feel like my team believes me when I tell them I’m not going over calories or carbs. I’m just beyond frustrated at this point.

  5. My surgery was April 26 22. I have gained 5 lbs in my weeks. I’m struggling to get back on track. I went on vacation to the beach and I didn’t stick to the plan. Now I can’t seem to get control of my snacking? How do I get back on track. How do I stop all of these cravings? Why is this so hard??

The first one I had was a Tanita, which are very good, they make a lot of the professional models that the doctors use, It was very stable and reliable for about twelve years when it finally burned out. They're pricier than the cheapos- $60/70 up to around 150 depending upon the bells and whistles included, so I wouldn't hesitate about getting another. I did replace it with one of the Omrons that has both hand and foot pads and that seems to work well.

One of the errors in the technology comes from where the measurement is taken - across the feet or the hands; some RDs or personal trainers may use a hand held grip that does the same thing as the foot pads. The problem is that its accuracy depends in part on what shape your body is - it you are an "apple" shape, keeping most of your fat around your abdomen, then the foot pads will tend to understate your BF number, and the had grips will overstate it some. Conversely, if you are "pear" shaped, holding most of your fat in your hips and butt, then the foot pads will overstate your BF while the hand grips will understate it. A scale that has both will average the two to get a closer reading.

Another error inherent in the technology is that it is hydration sensitive. As it is measuring your body's impedance (electrical resistance), that will vary depending upon how much Water is present (just like standing in a puddle of Water while changing a light bulb isn't a great idea....) Your hydration will vary during the day, and some from day to day, so you should weigh yourself at the same time each day, preferably in the late afternoon or before dinner, when you are fully hydrated and likely most stable in that regard; first thing in the morning tends to be more stable on weight, but you are more dehydrated then. One might see 4-5 points difference in BF from early morning to late afternoon, so consistency is key. One will probably also see some day to day variation, so don't take them as too significant - trends are more important than individual snapshots.

I typically weighed myself daily before dinner and kept a mental track of the BF number, It would typically vary, say, between 32.0-33.9, so any differences in there were not treated as significant; however, as time progressed, I would start seeing readings in the 31's, and stop seeing 33's. so that I took as notable progress. Call it an informal moving average. If one is so inclined, then record them daily and do a real moving average of maybe ten days. That should smooth out the day to day noise.

I typically weigh in the morning because that's when I weigh less lol. Sometimes I weigh before bed. But mainly in the mornings

I'm a fan of the ones that have both footpads and handles that you hold. I don't have any data to suggest that they are any better, but it just seems like having more sensors in more places would be a good thing. The one I have now in an Omron, but I recently saw on Amazon that InBody also makes one for the home market. InBody is the brand my Bariatric Center uses, so I'm tempted to get one of those as well.

One thing to keep in mind: none of these home BIA scales are all that accurate. In reality, that's not super important to me. What's more important is that they are consistent; meaning I can actually track from one week to the next if my percentage of body fat is trending in the right direction. When I want a more accurate number, I'll go get a bod pod scan.

    .

I want something consistent too. Thanks

I think I might be a close runner up to Queen of the Stalls. LOL we will see.

I had my first stall two weeks after surgery that lasted about two weeks. I have since then had one every month since surgery. They usually last up to two weeks with the main one lasting 3 weeks. This last one is still going on. Meh It will drop eventually.

I don't think most Drs believe in the stalls. I'm so dreading my next weigh in. 🥴

i hit one at 3 weeks. Then again at 3 months which that one lasted almost the entire month. That month i only lost i think 5lb or so. you will continue to have them along your journey.

I'm a slow loser. I've been told it's because my BMI is on the lower end. So after my 3 week stall I only lose 1lb a week. I have not lost anything for almost 3 weeks now. So I guess I'll go back to my liquid diet and see if that helps.

I'm only 6 months out... I know I do have to pre-portion bec I just don't feel that restriction hit like so many people on this forum are talking about. I guess the only real answer is pre-portioning and sticking to it. It's a matter of training my body...

I'm almost 3 months out and I could eat the whole bagel and probably more. The only time I get restriction is when I have to sip on Water with a meal. I hate that I no longer have restriction

  11. How long did it take for your blood sugar to go below 100 at morning fasting? I had my blood work done today. My regular dr is also testing me for the antibodies to see if I could be type 1 diabetic because autoimmune runs in my family. (My mom got type 1 at 75 years old just last year) my sugar is still running around 150 in the mornings. I'm keeping positive thoughts that it is just type 2 and will eventually go down to a normal level.

I understand. I get days that I am really hungry and I feel like I want to eat all day. That there is no restriction. Like if I let myself go, I could eat the house lol. But then the next morning, I am not hungry at all till evening. Sometimes it is related to how well I slept the night before and I am eating for energy or perhaps something emotional.

I think we tend to blow things out of proportion in things like this, and not give ourselves credit enough for all the days we have done well.

As you said, tomorrow is a new day. You're doing good. Hang in there.

lol. I definitely felt like I ate the whole house yesterday 🤦‍♀️ One good thing I didn't gain any weight over night. 😀yay

I found myself eating more than I should yesterday and part of today. I was only able to eat 1/3 of a burger patty, and then I felt very comfortable and I knew to stop. Well yesterday NOTHING I ate had me feeling comfortable. I'm not talking restriction, I mean comfortable and just not hungry anymore. I'm 5 weeks post op and have started eating actual food (slowly since I'm a week early on it) and I haven't felt that feeling of restriction or feeling comfortable like I read about. I thought starting solids would make it easier to learn my limits. Who knew I'd end up never feeling any restriction or feel comfortable when eating actual food (no, it's not slider foods. It's burgers, chicken, pork chops, veggies, etc...) I think we have to just power through it, reset ourselves, and recommit to the bariatric and diet and just stick to it. I bought a food scale so I'm starting to weigh everything and hoping I can just get used to the amount of food and hopefully teach my stomach it's not starving and maybe the hunger will stop.

I've been weighing everything that doesn't come prepackaged with a label. I do get restrictions but not today. So I usually know when to stop. Or I get the hiccups 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've been sticking to my plan except for today and some yesterday. I haven't lost much but I am losing inches. Oh im 6 weeks post op

  14. Im so disappointed in myself. I have been craving foods that aren't good for you. Up until the last couple of days. I have been able to fight it off. But today I have eaten all day long. My food choices are not as bad as they were before WLS (most everything has Protein in it). but I can't believe I have eaten so much.

    Today I've eaten :

breakfast: Greek yogurt w/ Protein granola. Snacks all day 🤦‍♀️ (unknown amounts) I've gone back several times for a handful of granola and bbq Pork rinds

lunch 4oz of honey baked ham and 2oz of mashed potatoes

supper Greek yogurt w/ protein granola

I never got any restriction feeling but I am so miserable now!

I know tomorrow is a new day but I worry I've gotten the taste of junk and I'll release to my old ways

Yea our tastes change its really weird. Some people say the fairlife shakes are not as sweet to them. I never tried them but I suggest going to gas stations and trying what they have so you can buy individual servings instead of a whole case you won’t drink.

    Good idea. Thanks

Do the shakes taste too sweet post surgery? That was my issue and I found that premiere Protein clear drinks weren’t as sweet. Also once you are allowed caffeine their caffe latte is so delicious I still have one a day at 15 months out.

Yes they are too sweet. I've tried it with coffee but right now I don't drink a lot of coffee. I guess I just don't enjoy it anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have not lost anything in a full 3 weeks!! Im so aggravated beyond measure! I lost I think 22 lbs fast before surgery. after surgery (May 3rd) by day 9 I was down another 14 lbs. Nothing since not a single pound. In fact I go back and forth with gain a pound then lose the pound. It is very frustrating to say the least. My team tells me I hit an early plateau after 9 days.. because I lost 36 lbs quickly. But dang lol 3 weeks out and still nothing. Now all that being said I cannot exercise much because I am pending a knee replacement as far as walking goes. I used to tell myself it was because of that but the 22 lbs I lost pre surgery I did not exercise either. So unfortunately for me I have to suck it up and trust the process and hope for the best at this point. I am very discouraged tho to say the least. It wears on me pretty heavily. I do notice clothes fitting loose and my boobs have took a big hit to my husbands dismay lol. Thighs and hips also are seeing inches coming off but that darn scale doesnt move lol

I didn't lose before surgery. So my total weight loss has been 17lbs. I'm like you. Gain a pound then lose it. I've never been an over eater. But I thought with me not eating a lot of carbs and no sugar. I would lose more then I have so far. It's just so frustrating.
