Wow I didn't think of those having so much ill definitely need to look into it. This is day 2 of miralax so wish me luck lol. I remember metformin days and I wasn't here for that trauma so I'd like to avoid it at all costs. I wrote all this down and will grab some tomorrow when I go shopping again. Thank you.
  2. Thanks

For me, Miralax every day until I'm going regularly (I totally keep notes ha) and then I take it every 2-3 days.
I was diluting my shakes with Fairlife skim milk, it has 13 g of Protein in 8 oz! So once I was tolerating cold liquids better, I'd fill a big insulated cup with a Protein Drink, 8 oz of Fairlife milk, and 8 oz Decaf coffee. That was 43 g protein and 30ish oz of Fluid 😁 plus the ice adds a bit more. It took me about 2 or 3 hours to drink that, but it is a bit quicker now.
Also love LonoLife powdered bone broth! Especially the chicken and beef. Not sure about the Thai curry flavor. Anyhow, I think they are a tasty and that's 10g protein, and 8-10 oz fluid!
    Good luck 😃

I got my date this morning of the 13th. I almost got sick being so emotional. This is so much more than the weight for me. I'm so proud of what I've done to get here. Congratulations on the big day!!!

Glad you are feeling better. It is really important to pace yourself & be aware of portion sizes while you are in the healing & recovery stages. A lot of nerves were cut during your surgery so your signals don’t get through or if they do, they’re different to how you usually experience them.
Yea, I have heard of people who have progressed through their staged return to eating more quickly (not skipping as such) but always because their surgeons advised them to do so & see how they go. There are also lots of people who return to a previous stage because their body just wasn’t ready even if they were progressing at their plan’s rate.
The cravings are another matter & should never influence how quickly you progress through the stages (they’re in place to protect & support your healing tummy - remember all those sutures & staples holding your tummy/digestive system together). A craving, where you want to eat a specific food, texture or flavour, is a head hunger & not real hunger (when you don’t want anything specific & just want nourishment). Are you wanting to eat because you’re seeking comfort, because of stress (common after surgery) , boredom or other emotions, habit, thinking you should be hungry because you’re eating so little, etc. Look for a distraction. Head hunger usually doesn’t last. Read, craft, play a game, watch a movie or show, have a warm drink, go for a walk, or do some other activity like clean out a drawer or a shelf in the pantry, ring a friend, check out social media or this forum. They won’t necessarily stop the cravings but do help manage them.

There are so any different programs and guidelines, I’m sure someone has been able to skip ahead. I personally know a couple people who went to eating scrambled eggs on day 4. It really depends. Is it the right thing for you? Well, I think that’s up to you and your bariatric team. I’ve heard that liquid phases are helped by taking in saltier things like broths, thinned Soups, etc. if those don’t go well, Gatorade or other electrolyte drinks could be helpful. Just some ideas to help in this phase 😊 I do know it will get better, but definitely follow your instincts and don’t let the bariatric team brush off your concerns. 🌈

Oh man, sorry for all of your hiccups! I am glad they are getting your fixed up and I hope you feel better soon.
As far as the diarrhea, I had it bad for a week or so after surgery also. As soon as I drank or "ate" anything but Water I would be in the bathroom within minutes. It did pass and now I am more regular than ever.
    I wish you the best!

How are you doing? Have you tried the unflavored Protein from Isopure? I sometimes add that to the prepared Protein Shake to double the protein and have to drink less of it.

I didn't feel the need to be near the bathroom my bowel movements were the same, and I may have peed once or twice more than usual. I did not feel hungry, I was having 3 shakes a day and chicken breast with brocoli or cucumber for dinner. The first day was easy, the second was hard, but then it became a habit since I had my dinner ready and would look forward to it. Also, when I got wild thoughts, I kept thinking if I did not do it correctly something could happen during surgery, that kept me in line especially when I had to cook for dinner parties, didn't even taste the food lol

Find a Protein Shake or drink you really like. That makes things a lot easier.
I found drinking Water in between sips of the Protein shake made me less nauseaous.
Plan for light activity those first three days. I was moody, grumpy, tired, and achy.

Yeah I started my journey a couple yrs ago. I had a couple surgeries that was the reason to postpone. (I had already passed the physical stuff and diet stuff then btw) . Then after PTSD and stress management therapy and me looking into other therapies just to do all i can on that front this psychologist says I have to do 6 months to a yr of DBT . I ended up leaving DBT after a mo th cause I hated the program. I'm worried I jeopardized it all because I want to focus on my chronic Migraines vs therapy and work on residual stuff after I've healed from that. I think it's unfair to push a specific therapy knowing not all therapies fit everyone and I've met my minimums months and months ago. My life coach even says I'd be amazing for the surgery. I'm so frustrated everyone else on my team is amazing I don't want to lose them. But this J.S.(psychologist) is driving nuts.

I know this is an old thread but I live in Lonsdale. I use to live in Lakeville and even though mayo is a long drive it is well worth going to the Bariatric program there. I am getting a revision August 29th. I am pretty use to driving to Mayo because my little cousins live out there and I pick them up occasionally.
I had my sleeve done with Fairview and I did not like the nutrition program there. Funny story when I first started my whole journey back in 2017 I went with Park Nicollet first, and with their program you first see some sort of therapist. She denied me for any surgery and told me I had a eating disorder and I needed to do the Emily program for 12 months!!!!!! I went home crying! There was NO WAY I had an eating disorder! So I made an appointment with Fairview's Bariatric program a week after that and got my sleeve done. Couple months after that I got a piece of mail saying that provider is no longer employed with Park Nicollet.

I cannot believe that the we have such similar stories! I also went to Park Nicollet first. The dietician was overly focused on my previous eating disorder, even though I completed two years of intense therapy and group BED therapy. She wanted me to resume therapy and postpone surgery. I also went home crying. I scheduled a new consultation with Ridgeview Clinic three weeks later and successfully had sleeve surgery two months later. It’s crazy the amount of hoops some doctors make their patients jump through. I am so thankful that I ditched Park Nicollet, lol.

Yes!!! I am so happy I wasn't the only one that went through that. I am surprised at others who actually got through the process at Park Nicollet. I also ditched Park Nicollet and got a second opinion on the ED. It is super weird how other programs work!! Fairview-Your first appointment/meeting is with a group of people who are interested in the program and then at the end you add your name on the list if you want to make your first appointment with a nurse/dietician. Mayo-you see an endocrinologist/dietitian/therapist all in one day. Till this day I feel like the provider who denied me was trying to get more money in by referring her patients to the Emily Program.

I totally agree. The dietician wanted me to do about six months of therapy through Park Nicollet, so they would have profited from that. I also got very lucky with Ridgeview because they scheduled my surgery quickly while other clinics were putting a “pause” on bariatric surgeries due to Covid.

I'm interested to know this, too. I was diagnosed in 2005. My surgeon has had MANY women with PCOS have surgery and said he has seen a lot of success with it. I'm really hopeful...

Hi everyone. I’m new here- got my lap band on Sept 1. I lost 8 lbs leading up to surgery and then another 12 in about a month and a half… but then the loss stopped and I gained 5 back. I just had my third fill and my doc wants me back in a month to make sure I’m in the green zone.
Its been six months and I feel like I’m never going to lose this weight.
    Virtual hugs accepted 🤗👍💕🙏🏽

Just answered someone else asking about PCOS and the surgery so I will just copy and paste what I wrote to them.
I am just coming up on 10 months post op and have lost about 73lbs. I've dealt with PCOS, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Insulin Resistance, Migraines, etc. all my life.
10 years ago I was put on Metformin to help with those issues. Especially my PCOS, IR and it worked wonders for those things (and made my Migraines disappear too). The Metformin kept me regular all those years, lessened my periods in days and volume, helped my cramps, etc.
However, since getting the surgery I had my Metformin cut in half and I "think" I may be taken off of it all together eventually. But I have to say that since my dose was cut in half my periods have been heavier, come late/sporadically, stay super long (last one lasted 12 days), etc. REGARDLESS of the surgery. So, I don't know that surgery helped ME with those issues. But it has helped with my high BP and I am almost off of that medication too.
I never dealt with acanthosis nigricans so I can't offer any info on that.

No you can do them but for me the first few days was painful.
Every recovery is different many people had very easy recoveries others not so much.
As long as you go slow and easy you'll do fine.

No, I was ok . Very tired and sore but It was tolerable. No drains for me. That might be for bypass I had the sleeve.
My husband took only I day off and I was ok. I didn't do stairs. Alot of sleeping and walking and of course trying to get liquids in.
I have a high energy job so I took 5 weeks off and I was good going back. It took alot out of me the first couple days back.
I love premeir Protein. I had to Water them down after surgery but they have so many flavors that you don't get too bored. All flavors except the peanut butter( I didn't like that one ) were really good. No problem asking questions. I had so many also
