@tristynftw and I are having surgery on the 24th as well. I know there are a few others this weeK too. I am very excited, super nervous, but ready!!

I've had a different mind set for awhile now. I'm doing this for me. I'm doing this because it's best for me. I did the research. I learned about weight set point. I've researched about Ghrelin (and Leptin). I've yo-yo dieted since I was a teen. I'm now in my 50's. I've spoken to those who have had wls. I've talked to physicians about success rates and complications. I'm sure you've done a lot of these things or more yourself. Besides, you already had the procedure. Shoot, I'd shut them down with that. But honestly, did you previously think of alternative ways to Celebrate birthdays, holidays, etc. I would say that's an example of a change in thinking. Hell, you making changes like that is a major success in my book. You got this

I really appreciate it everyone. I do my best to ignore but some days it gets to me. I have a therapist so we talk about it as well. I've done 10 months now of counseling and will continue throughout the whole bariatric process.
I told my family last night that I didn't want to deal with my problems the same way they do. They have issues with alcohol and my brother with both food and alcohol. They've refused to get help my whole life. It annoys me even more because I went out, got a psychiatrist, psychologist, dietician, surgery etc. And im still told you might fail, what makes this any different? Like look, I'm getting help...something they REFUSE to do for their problems. I REFUSE to be just like them. I really do appreciate the kind words of encouragement from everyone. I won't let their negativity stop me. I can't wait till I'm a year post op and they shut their traps. [emoji38]

My surgeon was mostly concerned with Iron levels. If that was to low, then surgery is postponed until iron levels go up. A lot of people have diabetes and it is one of the reasons that surgery is approved by insurance companies.

My surgery was supposed to be tomorrow. My 2 week modified-liquid went great. I was down the 25 pounds my surgeon wanted. I took the required Covid test yesterday and failed! I'm feeling fine, just a minor cold, but the surgery has been put off until June 21. I'm completely devastated. Very sad not to be joining the rest of you March surgery buddies. I'm not sure what the next 90+ days will bring.

Congratulations I’m 8 days away. I’ve lost 6 pounds so far but gain two due to my period coming ugh. I need it to be over before my surgery. One less thing to worry about.

One week until my surgery date! Can't wait!

A week from tomorrow is my surgery. 03/24. I fly out to Vegas on Monday. Pre op diet has been pretty good. Ive been drinking two Protein Shakes and one of my Leftover Jenny Craig meals. Im over my UTI and have used some of the urinalysis test strips to check my ketones. Im in fat burning mode, hopefully that means my liver is shrinking as expected

It’s surgery day for me! At the hospital now! Eek

6 more sleeps until my surgery! 8 days into my pre-op diet and my appetite is almost nil. I rarely feel hungry, but I am getting my Protein in and following my groups plan. I've been in nesting mode and cleaning my house (and yelling at my family to keep it clean lol) like I always do before every surgery. How's everyone else doing?

I didn’t realize how many of my family members don’t want me to do this. This weekend I went to my brothers to give him his bday present. He thinks it’s an overreaction to my weight . I was watching my 600 lb life sfter work today and my support person who is coming with me told me that she doesn’t want me to have the surgery. In her defense, the imagery in that show is pretty graphic. Then this evening , I confirmed with my sister that she will check on my kiddos while I’m gone and she said she had her doubts too! Dang! I was counting on family to help my anxieties. I have needle issues and always have the vasovagal response. I am fearing that, more than the recovery! Anyway. I’m glad I found this forum. I love the positivity

My brother had a similar response to yours, he said “that’s drastic”, my dad attempted to have a ‘talk’ with me about it - right before I cut him off and told him that I will not be shamed or made to feel bad. I kindly let him know that it’s none of his business and that I did not have to tell him anything about it.
These people love you but they only see through their perspective. They don’t realize that the support you need is encouragement and we’ll wishes and positive expectations.

I watched a lot of 600lb life leading up to surgery but have no interest in it after. It helped me to prepare by providing multiple scenarios - and my biggest take away from the show was the emotional aspect of what is causing us to eat the way we have been.

This is for you. You can do it and you will thrive!

Most of my family freaked out as well (except my brother, who said congrats). I found that focusing on the health benefits of the surgery tends to help get them in my corner…my physical AND mental health!

I am pre-op but my pureed stage is partially planned with split pea Soup and black bean soup. I was going to try egg salad as well since it is basically already pureed. I don't think I can get down with just pureed meat by itself. I might try some chili too, although it depends on how I handle all the flavor.

I am having my surgery in Las Vegas and my BMI < 35. I think for surgery BMI >30. I am a mostly a self pay, insurance will pay part of it, like pre-op testing, blood work, etc. I had looked into Mexico too. There are finance companies that will help with costs too. I am using Care Credit.

I was getting ready to order from Amazon when I found them at Walmart. They hadn't previously been there. You might want to double check walmart again because, for me, they were cheaper.

One of the videos I watched mentioned gas traveling to the shoulders as well. Other than walking they suggested percussing the area to break down the gas into smaller parts

Have you tried the Fairlife shakes? They seem to have less of that icky chemical taste than other brands, IMO.
Adding SF Syrup to unflavored Protein powder and Water is a smart idea. I'll probably try that, so thanks for sharing the idea.

I got my RNY on Thursday, March 3rd. Surgery went without a hitch and they even fixed my hiatal hernia which was supposed to be very small but turned out it was quite large (no wonder I had stomach acid in my mouth during the night). I stayed in the hospital for two nights (the second by choice because it seemed easier than getting home around 9 pm)

So…I thought the recovery was going to be much easier. Figured I would be back to my desk job by Monday no problem (I work from home part time). Its Thursday and I have not been back. I have six incisions…four I can’t even feel and two are tender. My concentration is minimal and am tired a lot. I had my post op appointment yesterday. The doctor said my incisions looked great but my heartrate was elevated. She asked about my Fluid intake. While in the hospital, I could drink without getting sick and drank when I wanted but since I was on IV fluids I wasn’t concerned. At home, I got in 25 oz the first day, 40 the second and 54 the third. I am supposed to get in 64 oz of 50/50 100% juice/water per day or Gatorade/water. The watered down mixture was nauseating so I have been sticking to just Water.< span> Never thought getting in the liquids would be so hard. I literally have to force myself to drink. My doctor wanted to hook me up to an IV yesterday for a few hours but I swore I would get in my 64 oz (I got in 68). I have been successful with eating popsicles and some warmed chicken soup/broth. Currently, I am supposed to be on full liquids with 4 Protein Shakes per day in addition to 64 oz of water. Since I am having a hard time, she wants me to start slow today and tomorrow before going for the 4 full shakes.< span> Every day is better and I am finally able to sleep on my side in my normal position. I am only taking pain meds to go to sleep and Tylenol the remainder of the day. NO regrets on my part just surprised at the length of recovery time after reading many stories on here. I feel the hard part is behind me. Hope everyone else is doing well!!!

As a nurse, I’ll tell you those mini multi-colored pens that attach to keychains are popular! They always get lost. Scrub caps, dry erase markers, coffee, and krispy Kreme donuts are all popular too.

OMG! I have the same surgery date scheduled for blossom! Maybe I will see you there!
