amazingmimi got a reaction from KRod6 in Back to work after one week??
I stayed completely off work for the week following surgery, then worked from home for the next week (plus Labor Day). Coming back to the office was both wonderful and challenging. Getting up and down from my desk chair was difficult, but as liveaboard15 mentioned, having a cane nearby was definitely helpful (we had a spare one from my husband's foot surgery).

I am probably going to rile up a bunch of people! I don't use low fat or sugar free anything... never have since day one post-op. I ate ALL sugar free and fat free everything since I was 7 years old and guess what? I ended up 260 pounds. So, I eat the real deal in small portions, I am so much more satisfied and healthy. I have maintained my goal weight for a year and counting. When you are eating such small amounts of things I truly believe real fat is much better than processed, fat removed, sugar added crap. My cholesterol is normal, all my labs are great. Just my opinion!!

That's so wrong lol. That's not Mayonnaise, but then again, I did ask for a substitute. I'm from the south where Dukes mayonnaise is a food group of its own lol. I'm just messing with you, my wife LOVES Miracle Whip. I HATE it except in her potato salad.
I can be fine without mayo when used as a spread, although I LOVE it, but as a binder these ideas are great

This is not how it works and people should not go into PS or WLS thinking this.

I think sometimes it's easy to forget that the surgery is a *tool*, not a substitute for self-control. The most important weight loss tool any of us have is between our ears.

For me, there were two things that surprised me the most, despite reading and hearing about both.
First, I was amazed at the change in hunger sensation. I was (and remain, for the most part) simply not hungry as much anymore. Pre-op - and even at the start of the liquid phase - I felt hungry all-the-time. For me personally, it was one of the biggest contributors to my past diet failures. The "surprise" was a pleasant one, to say the least. It is so refreshing to feel like food is no longer controlling a significant portion of my thoughts throughout the day.
The second thing that surprised me the most, was how little food it took for me to feel full, and how quickly I felt full. True, this was discussed with my healthcare team, and I read about it here and elsewhere, but I don't think I was truly prepared for just how little it takes for me to feel full. Again, another pleasant surprise.

There were two things that really surprised me, despite all the research and reading I did. I didn't know that the first week after the surgery I might not lose anything. I knew that some people come home a little heavier than on surgery day, but coming home 10lbs heavier and then not losing anything for over a week was startling to me. My nutritionist explained that it was normal, and that given the amount I lost during the LSD, I could expect to lose less than normal in the first month. I was expected to be between 279-275 on my next appointment (last Friday), but she said not to worry about it if I didn't hit that. I hit 280.2 the morning of my appointment.

The second thing, and if you don't want TMI scroll on, was the surprise appearance of my period more than a week early, accompanied by horrific cramps and clotting. Again, I'd read that it could cause your cycle to run early, or late, but I was not prepared for the worst period of my life. I'm at the tail end of my next cycle and this one hasn't been nearly as bad, but still a good bit worse than I'm used to, so there's a heads up on that lol.

When I get to 250 I am getting my nose repierced. My original piercing fell out while I was on a cruise and it closed up by the time I got home. Once I get under 200, my reward is a new tattoo. And the new clothes along the way don't hurt either ;)

First preop appt and dietician appt done! Dietician said I should not worry about slow loss after surgery due to losing so much on the LSD (28lbs) that my first month is bound to be a little slower than I might have expected. She was very happy with my progress and cleared me to start purées today!

I’ve never been so happy to eat a scrambled egg in my life! And had some refried Beans for dinner. I was so afraid, after getting so hungry during the full liquid stage that maybe I had more room than I was supposed to, but that’s definitely not the case. 1 egg and a 1/4 cup of the beans were more than enough to fill me up at both meals. I couldn’t finish them!

I was also cleared to do a 15-20 minute walk once a day (easy pace, no getting out of breath) and it felt great to go out for a walk with hubby after work today. Got me hungry for dinner!

All in all, great visits with my team that helped me know I’m just where I should be and this is a long journey, not a race.

4 weeks after sleeve surgery, had COVID 10 days into recovery which sent my body into a tailspin and landed me in hospital, thankfully no lasting damage and am starting to feel that boost in energy that people talk about.
Progress wise, 2 stone exactly down since surgery, (28 lbs, 12kg) and now just onto soft food. Had smoked salmon, a teeny bit of avocado and an egg this morning, for example.
I haven't worn this t shirt since 2018, had it at the back of my wardrobe in the vain hope it may fit one day. Truly never thought it would. Now I face the reality that I probably will have to send it to the charity shop (goodwill) in a few weeks, so I'm gonna enjoy wearing it for now.

Thanks. I just started feeling like I turned the corner this week. I've also been stalled.

A few days ago I called my younger cousin who had the sleeve 3 years ago and talked to her for a while. She let me vent and then told me that she felt like the weight loss was so slow and she was constantly worried she wasn't losing enough. Then one day she woke up and was 100 pounds down. She said not to stress and that the weight loss will happen.

Everybody heals differently. I hope your stronger, more energetic self is right around the corner too!

Good morning from scorching hot San Diego!

360.0 now! That's exactly 25 pounds from when I started the liver-shrinking diet 2 weeks pre-op. All seems to be going well, but I didn't quite hit my Protein goal yesterday with 3 outings adding up to 6 hours of errands (note to self: grab a Protein Shake on the way out the door). Still learning. However, that was the only day, so I'm quite proud of hitting my protein and Water goals every other day.
My activity is really good as well, says my Apple Watch. It's largely thanks to all the work packing/culling/donating for the move as well as errands.
Later this morning, the surgeon will call me for a follow-up. The nutritionist was supposed to call yesterday at 9:30 a.m., but she was a no-show with still no word, so I'll reach out to her by e-mail.

I got an awesome shipment from BariatricPal Store yesterday. They're going to come in really handy on my 5- to 6-day road trip. I don't know how I'll refreeze the ice pack though, but I can probably at least get it really cold in a motel bucket full of ice.

I had a PSL the other day as a small treat. I got a single pump instead of two and got it Decaf with fat free milk. It was definitely a nice treat but I only drank about 1/3 of it before I just couldn’t drink anymore lol. Pretty sure we can have coffee as long as it is decaf with no sugar in it.

Today I’m starting my first day of week 3 post op (2nd week of purées). I had hoped by today I would have achieved one of my specific mini goals. I was hoping to end the month under 300 lbs. Seeing that “2” in front of my weight for the first time in nearly 20 yrs. was something have have dreamed about but always fell short of since crossing that 300 point. The closest I got to that on my own was 309.

Started out strong loosing about 23 lbs my first week, only to hit a big stall during my second week. I was struggling on purées to hit my Water, Protein and calorie goals. I won’t lie, I was prepared for a stall week 3 - but not week 2. It was so frustrating hovering right at the mark 300 on the scales, but I refused to let myself get discouraged and focused how far I had come so far!!

This morning I hopped on the scales and low and behold I had movement and I’m solidly under 300!!! It may only be just barely, but I’m at 298 and that feels soooooooooo good! There is nothing quite as motivating as hitting goals and making progress… even small goals.

June 2021 - my heaviest was 382. I lost 50 pounds leading up to my pre op liquid diet. Another 10 pounds was lost on the liver shrining diet. Today I am 16 pounds away from having lost 100 pounds! I can’t even believe I am saying that!!! That seems attainably close for the first time ever (to loose 100 pounds!).

I have a long way to go. My final goal is less of a number and more of a feeling of being healthy - what feels right … but I’m more motivated than ever to tick off these mini goals one at a time and get to maintenance.
