Started pre-op diet at 276lbs. Surgery was cancelled for another 2 months but I kept calorie counting that whole time so in total I lost 25lbs pre-op in the end.
    Surgery weight 251
Date of sleeve 17 November 2021
    Current weight 220
So that's 31lbs off in 11.5 weeks since surgery. 8lbs in the week of surgery then a long post-op stall that lasted over 3 weeks.
I have really found a groove with my eating and am losing a steady 2lbs a week at the minute. I do drink some alcohol every weekend which I know is completely empty calories, but it's something I have chosen to do and factor in. If I stall again or once my rate of loss slows I'll probably stop it again!
Hope that helps. I loved reading other people's stats pre-op and I still do really. 😍 Keep asking questions - it's a big decision, a lifelong commitment to being different, and there is such a lot of experience in this group you're absolutely right to use it.

My feeling is for the first few months follow your surgeon's and dietician's guidelines. From there once you've transitoned to solid foods you can work what works for you to lose weight (I wish we could talk about fat instead of weight) in a healthy way.
In saying that, there are is a varitey advice from surgeons and dieticians...but none that recommends eating what you like three days out...please anyone who is new to this site or weight loss surgery...please disregard the approach of eating what you like three days out! There are medical reasons for not doing this. Your stomach healing is at risk, and just because one person didn't experience complications from eating 'what they liked' doesn't mean you won' t.

Im 8 days post op and I never feel hungry. But I think I get restless which is my body saying to eat., I drink my fairlife Protein Shake around 8:30am and then every 2-3 hours and eat yogurt. Or 1 cup of creamy soup(tomatoe/vegetable) I drink Water in between the 2-3 hour meals. By the time dinner comes around I might have 2 soft boiled eggs or another shake. I have a cup of tea with Splenda to end my night. I’m hoping this stays the course as I start introducing solid foods.

My Nutritionist told me I could eat a little mashed or baked but only a few times a week and not much. But sweet potatoes are a free for all I can eat them as often as I desire - within my calories and 6 meals a day of course lol

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I think I have to let go of the comparison of people dropping 100 lbs in almost 3 months.. so it’s a little frustrating. I was thinking of going back to strict Keto

The fear is theirs to deal with, not yours. However, people with huge fear issues can be very hard to live with. My husband also yelled lots about how I was taking the easy way out, etc. etc. all of my kids had to do a couple of conference calls with him to calm him down, express their support for my decision, etc. I’ve since lost 85 lbs, am off cholesterol meds, no more insulin nor high blood pressure meds. I feel so much better. Let their fears be their issues and not yours. We have enough of our own problems to deal with!

Wow. Let's call a spade a spade—that is abuse on their part.
But screw them. They're not going to be supportive no matter what. Let's talk about the reality here.
Are there people who could lose 100 lbs. on their own with diet and exercise? Yes. And they all have something they'd really like to sell you.
It is NOT the easy way out. It is basically giving you a lifesaving tool—the TEMPORARY ability to restrict your calories and not be starving hungry and tempted to undo it. Basically you are going to get a year or so to reevaluate your relationship with food without having things like a sugar addiction hanging over your head. But it is still diet and exercise.
I wish I could beam into your head the wonderment I feel as I shrink down. I'm 6 feet tall and have lost 85 pounds in four months (including pre-op). I haven't broken out into a random sweat; I can work all day (physical labor) and just be tired when the other guys are tired; I can run and jump and fit in spaces meant for average size human beings; I can buy clothes in normal stores; I don't have any comorbidities anymore, and in fact when I got Covid, it was mild and my doctor said my weight loss almost certainly helped with that.
tl;dr You do this for you, and the hell with what your gaslighting parents say. Psychiatric ward, my hind foot.

Yep..... that's basically what I did.
I said I was having surgery on my stomach. I have other issues with my stomach anyway, so I just kept the main part to myself, I omitted the main part of it so that mentally I can focus on my health and my journey w/o everyone's input rather negative or positive it's not a conversation I want to have everytime someone talks to me😇

    Hey
    I had my sleeve December 22, 2021.
To be honest I did not follow what I was told.
I was told different things by my surgeon, dietitians and my pcp.
I listened to what everyone said and then I had to tweak it to what worked best for me.
I have been planning my surgery for a few years so I did a lot of reading and thinking about my process.
I also don't really talk much to anyone about it. So i dont become mentally drained by all the opinions or questions 😄
I have not been worried or anxious about my journey at all😇
As far as Protein I look at what I was told I need and I balance that out by trying to get in a certain amount every 2-3hrs.
My liquids/water I try and get in 6-10oz every hour.
I also have certain bottles to help.
    Example- 28oz water bottle
    11oz Protein Drink
4oz cup of jell-o or applesauce
I have had NO ISSUES at all.
I know it may not work for you but I hope it helps You develop your routine.

I have tried them and they go down fine but I try to stay away from them just because I know myself with carbs. I can’t eat just once. After I have them I crave them for days.

I'm 7 weeks post sleeve and I have had mashed potatoes since about week 3. Like a teaspoonful at the end of my dinner when 've had my Protein and veg. And I had half a roast potato at christmas. I'm Irish, I couldn't live a full life without them, but yes, even I would advise concentrating on more nutrient dense foods at this stage and having tiny amounts only as a treat food!

This is why I didn’t tell my family and said I was getting a hernia repaired. I didn’t want to argue or talk about any of it. I’ll let them figure it out later when I’m feeling and looking better.

I am 51 and my parents are also very much against my choice to get the surgery. I’ve been overweight for 30 years, but they just don’t understand the affect it has had on me, on my life. I’ve basically had to tell them that I’m going to try everything I can with getting help, dietitian, therapy, support groups and then hopefully I won’t even need surgery. I know that’s not true and I am committed to getting the surgery, but in order to alleviate their worry and to not continuously get negative feedback, I’m just not sharing my journey with them. They can here about it after the fact.

    How old are you?
you have to do what is best for you. You will always have judgy and negative people in your life. You have to either ignore them or cut them out of your life. It is the only way I have stayed sane with my family members.

Sorry but the flags are SO red. Abusive, manipulative and controlling. No rational person threatens they'll lose their mind and go to a psychiatric ward over someone trying to fix a health issue. OR threatening to sue the surgeon for someone else's procedure they wanted. This is the abuser's version of a monkey flinging s**t at the walls.
Every single thing the OP says they've said screams control issues. Sorry OP, but as someone else said, find the support here. And don't let your family control you.

We'll be your support system. 🤗You're an adult, you do what's best for you. WLS is NOT the easy way out. It's just a tool. You'll still have to do the work.

Are you a minor or something? Me personally i dont care what anyone else thinks that includes family. If i am doing something to better myself then i will go with it regardless of what other people think. Not sure how they can sue the surgeon if you are an adult. If you have friends that are supportive those can be better than unsupportive family many times.

I buy a lot of turkey bacon but my kids eat more of it than I do. Since my VSG I’ve notice plant Protein sits a lot better I’ve added pictures of 2 of my favorites. The Lightlife sausage is a great ground beef replacement. I still eat a lot of chicken and shrimp that I cook in the air fryer because it’s not as dry that way. I also buy A LOT of zucchini and tomatoes and mushrooms.

Oh no , I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time. I try to do my Protein in the morning and another for lunch and with ice the colder the better . I keep 4 Water bottles 16oz on my bed side so I know to drink those for the day. As far as diarrhea did you notify the doctor about it because they should of quested a stool sample to make sure there’s no bacteria.

I agree, tracking is just like dieting, not sustainable. We need to learn to eat like normal ppl who make better alternate choices. Tracking in the past has worked for me, but only in the short term. I do not believe it’s a long term solution. It can be a good tool until one can learn to “eyeball” their intake in my opinion.
