  1. Lanakila~ Of course you may borrow it! Feel free.
  2. Okay, here is the weight loss, so far: Nutritionist 6/30: 267 Day of surgery 8/5: 247 Today 8/8: 243 Somebody posted early about not ever having to gain back this weight, what a great thought. When I read it, it really sunk in, I am moving down the scale for good! Woo Hoo!
  3. Cutie~ Sorry about the migraine. Will they let you take anything for it. I have an okay on my imitrex, cut in 1/4s and take with Water. I hope you feel better, I definitely feel your pain!
  4. You should be drinking the 2oz about every 5-10 minutes, depending upon what feels good to you. Don't get behind. I did that and really struggled to get rehydrated! Congrats on the band! How exciting for you. I found that having a SF popsicle helps. I was able to feel like my mouth wasn't so dry. Keep sipping!
  5. Congrats on being an official bandster! Follow the advice everyone has given and you will be feeling better in no time! Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. That seems to really help. I was up doing housework today, running errands around town and grocery shopping. Anybody else done that yet. It was very weird. I am not hungry, the food looked yummy, but why bother buying it - weird!
  6. If you click on your ticker it will take you to the site to update it. Once you update you will see the change the next time you post. You don't have to recopy it to have it update.
  7. I had the realize band on Aug 5. So far so good! I really love the website with all of the information and recipes! I am sure that I will use them as I get further along in the process. I was using the limited version of the website pre surgery, I love all the added features post surgery. If you haven't logged in to the site yet - it is something you can really use!
  8. Everyone is getting the Gas-X strips to help with gas after surgery. I have found that walking has been very helpful. I have not had the typical post surgery shoulder pain with banding. But it is also the first time with surgery I have been up and moving right away.
  9. I would not be afraid to see the doctor! They are there to help us through this process and I am sure you are not the first one to not lose weight. So don't fret, ask for the support! I was on a 1400 calorie/90 gram Protein diet before I was banded. The nutritionist said that would be where I would start once I was up to eating full foods. I think I was averaging about 1200 cal a day. I really had to learn to get the protein in - those were the weeks I lost the most. Remember, this is a different journey for each of us. Some will lose quickly and others will take more time. Don't get discouraged, you are on the way to a new slim you!
  10. I went to a nutrition meeting right before my surgery and they did a demonstration with yogurt. It was a great lesson to see what happens to your food when you add Water. At about 40 minutes the yogurt was still in the pouch and slowly moving down the tube. When they added water to the pouch, the food immediately slipped through into the stomach. No more food in pouch, no more feeling full. That was the point of the demonstartion was to let your food move slowly out so you don't feel hungry immediately after eating.
  11. Cutiew~ How fun to have friends in post-op! I started to get a migraine and could not figure out why - aha, now I know. I am pretty much off the pain meds now. I felt pretty good today. I have been outside walking each day and that really seems to help. I started full liquids today and it is funny, I can hardly 'eat' anything. Kind of cool, I made a protein shake and maybe had 1/4 of it and I was done. On Monday I would have downed the whole thing in under 5 minutes! Hope you have a quick and easy recovery!
  12. Welcome to the board! This is a great place for info and support. I was banded Aug 5th. So far so good. I did have to have my bandages changed, the steri strips came off. The PA had me start some antibiotics just to be safe, the port incisions was looking a little irritated. I am glad you are taking care of yourself - I have the same challenge, everyone is first and I am last. I am so glad to be taking care of myself and putting my health first. This is such an exciting journey, I am so glad to be banded and on my way!
  13. Stop watching scary movies before your surgery! They will give you a happy cocktail to ease the nerves and the next thing you know you are waking up from surgery in the recovery room. They will go over all of the possible complications with you, they have to by law. But don't let that get to you. You will be so much healthier and happier after having had this surgery. You are going to make a life change and it is scary - but I think the benefits outweigh the risks.
  14. Goals: Hmm, this could be fun after reading everyone elses! 220#: Feel great about riding my horse! I can't wait, I almost sold him this spring, but then I really started investigating (for the 2nd time) getting the band. So I didn't sell him and I am so excited about being able to ride again:thumbup: 199#: Have a freakin party for myself! I can't remember putting a number 1 in front of my weight. I will definitely buy some cute new clothes. Bras and panties will be fun to buy - I can't wait! At this point I think I can get serious about running again, in a weird way I am excited about this. I would love to run a marathon with my husband. 170#: Ride the rides at Disneyland this spring - that will be so fun. I have been too afraid of the bars not fitting, so I haven't ridden a roller coaster in way too many years! 150#: Woo Hoo, this is the big GOAL! I am hoping to be off my meds by this point. I want to buy some really great clothes and maybe a really cute swim suit! OMG Take a romantic vacation with my husband. It would be a treat for both of us! To reach my goals: I will eat a low cal, low carb diet I will exercise at least 4x a week for 30+ minutes I will not beat myself up for setbacks. This is a journey and I will reach goal in my own time in my own way. I have a very valuable tool to help me get to where I want to be!:cool2: Along the way I will love myself.
  15. PJ~ I haven't had the pain you are talking about. Started with protein today. And it really is very filling, I have not been hungry at all - yet! I tried to have some chicken broth (unjury) for dinner and could only get about half way through it. This is the first time since surgery I have felt 'full'. I would try taking smaller sips and giving your stomach time to empty between meals. If the pain keeps up, I would give the doc a call and see what they say.
  16. Here is the list from my nutritionist: yogurt tuna salad, blenderized soft scrambled eggs egg salad cottage cheese chicken with gravy, blenderized pudding Soups, blenderized (no noodles or pasta) peach, banana, blenderized chicken stew (no potato) peas, carrot, blenderized string cheese refried Beans (non-fat), blenderized ricotta cheese hummus applesauce salsa, blenderized Okay, now I am getting hungry! Hope that helps. You can also look at the recipes on this site or bariatriceating.com has some recipes for each stage also. I still have two weeks of full liquids ahead of me! Let me know what you come up with!
  17. Kaytie~ The pre-op diet really does vary from clinic to clinic. Some people are on a 2 week diet to none at all. It just depends. I was required to lose 10 lbs before surgery. I followed the nutrition guide for post-banding to help lose weight. They weren't strict about having a liquid only diet, which was kind of nice. I did have to be on Clear Liquids the day before, which wasn't bad at all. My process was really quick. I started in June and just had my surgery on Aug 5th. I was self-pay so I did not have to jump through any insurance hoops. I was able to get into all of the pre-op appts pretty quickly. Because I was self-pay I was on a waiting list for the dietician and was moved up really quickly, in fact I ended up seeing her the day of the seminar. My psych eval was about 2 weeks later. I also had to have an endoscopy (sp) to check the stomach and esophogas and be seen by the sleep clinic. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I felt like I was moving from appt to appt and then real quick it was surgery day! Good luck in the process!
  18. Ha ha, I am right there with the rest of you. Wish I could have that IV hooked up at school with a little happy juice to get me through the day! Don't worry, they do usually give you something to calm down - everyone is a bit nervous before they go into surgery - it is natural! Good Luck!
  19. I went with the Realize band, it was what my surgeon recommended. Their website is great as a support tool. I did look at both and was leaning toward the Realize, so it worked out.
  20. Sorry you had such a rough couple of days. It sounds like you are through the worst of it. Isn't nice to eat a couple oz of jell-o and feel full! Hope you get to feeling better!
  21. You won't believe how quickly the next couple of days will go by! Good luck with the surgery! I had to be on Clear liquids for 3 days. Make sure you drink your Water, don't miss a sip. It is really easy to get dehydrated. I also have found that the SF Popsicles are very nice to have, you get your liquid and it feels good on the throat - mine was a bit sore day 1 and 2. I did get the Gas-X strips, but I have not had any gas pain - I feel lucky because I have experienced that in the past and it is uncomfortable. I also had sf jell-o and added a Protein bullet to it and it wasn't that bad! You can also dilute juice - I have had some cranberry and apple juice diluted 50/50 with water. I have also used the
  22. You will need prescriptions for your pain meds and anti-naseau (sp). I got mine when I went into the hospital and they filled them right there. So it was nice and easy.
  23. Congrats Shelby! Don't forget to keep up on sipping Water. I was bit dehydrated today and have had a hard time getting caught up! SF Popsicles seem to help the most. Way to go!
  24. Good Luck to all the Lucky 7's! Keep us posted on your progress! Happy thoughts sent your way.
  25. Lisa~ I am so sorry to hear about your job - that totally sucks they drop that bomb as you are about to have surgery! Focus on the surgery and your health - a job will come your way. You will bounce back in no time. I was riffed one year from a teaching position and I did the same thing - cried my eyes out during the meeting. But it did end up being a good thing, in hind sight. I was able to move on to a new position that was a much better fit! My thoughts are with you!
