  1. Is anybody else really apprehensive about trying new foods? I have been really hesitant to add new food because I am afraid of how my body will react or that it will get stuck. I know this is crazy and all in my head, but I am really nervous about it. I had scrambled eggs yesterday and I was so nervous I could hardly eat them. I want to enjoy what I am able to eat!
  2. Itching is healing, just don't scratch! I found that rubbing gently around the site seemed to relieve most of the itchiness.
  3. Welcome to bandland! Woo Hoo! Sounds like everything went really well! Mushies already, you lucky girl!
  4. Congrats on the band and welcome to the forum! This is a great place for information and support!
  5. Keep grinning, it's only going to get better! Keep sipping, you don't want to dehydrate and end up back in the hospital!
  6. Melissa~ You will put yourself at a higher risk of dying if you don't have the surgery! The surgery is worth it. I can't believe how different I already feel and it has only been 2 1/2 weeks. You should do this for yourself and your family! You have a ton of support here. Go for it!
  7. I was given the go ahead on mushies and I am in heaven! Nice to stick something in my mouth and chew, even though there is nothing to really 'chew'. I have had pudding, scrambled egg with salsa, refried beans with salsa and a sprinkle of cheese. Any other suggestions, this is going to get old quickly! The thought of pureeing meat, is not very appetizing. Anybody else afraid of eating? I am afraid to try new things, not sure how my tummy will react. Kind of weird for somebody addicted to food afraid to eat!
  8. Good Luck! Everything will go great, see you on the other side!
  9. lellow~ That is so great! You are shrinking! Woo Hoo!!!!
  10. Stace~ Good luck, let us know how it went when you get back! I'll pray for the kitty!
  11. I still have some of my steri-strips on, was banded two weeks ago. They are starting to pull off, except for two of the incisions that I had to have retaped after surgery. The itching started about a week or more after surgery, itched like crazy, I too have noticed that it does not itch so much in the last couple of days. My port area is still pretty sensitive, if I bump up against a counter, I can feel it. I still, out of fear I think, grab my stomach when I sneeze! Laughing hasn't been too bad, except in the beginning! Everything seems to be better each day!
  12. Just because you can eat it does not mean you should! Good advice! I have been surprised at some of the foods people are eating so soon after surgery. Make sure you are tracking your daily calories and Protein, very important!
  13. Your nerves are normal. Just look forward to the big change you are making for your life and how much healthier you will be for it! Surgery will go fine. Make sure you ask questions in the hospital so you know what is happening. They are more than happy to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable. Make sure you get your pain med prescription filled ahead of time if you can. Then it will be ready when you get home from the hospital, you won't have to make an extra stop! Good luck, can't wait to hear how everything went!
  14. I would request a study from your doctor, so they can refer you. I wasn't sure if I had sleep apnea or not, and I did the sleep study and now have a cpap. My sleep has definitely improved! I am much more rested then I was before.
  15. I went to the sleep center and the docs office did the endoscope. I did have an earlier appt for my psych eval. But I am sure they would work with you to have a later appt, or maybe a Sat morning? Have you been to the seminar and had an appt with the surgeon? All the people that I have worked with have been very accomodating to help me make this work. Good luck!
  16. I was able to eat right up until the day before surgery when I went to clear liquids. Don't sweat it. You made a poor choice and now you will make good choices. Recommit to follow your docs plan! Good luck with your surgery!
  17. Welcome to the group! Hope all goes well! Let us know how the surgery goes!
  18. Glad surgery went well. Sorry about the migraine - they are horrible! I felt like each stage took forever! When I was on clear liquids I wanted full, on full liquids I wanted mushies. Started that phase today, it is nice to chew - but now I am having mouth hunger, just wanting to chew and swallow. Something new to deal with!
  19. I live in Bend and was able to get later appts. I can't get into see doc or anybody for that matter until after 4:00 and I have not had any problems. I don't know how late you need an appt, but I think they would try to work something out. Or maybe get them on one day, where you could take the day off. The appts were spread out over a couple of months, but everything worked out great! I too was self-pay, so able to move through the process pretty quickly. I agree with everybody else, the docs are seeing that you are ready and healthy before they give you the band. It is actually reassuring and I even found out that I had another issue that would have never been discovered had they not done all the pre-testing. Good luck!
  20. Congrats on your band! Sounds like the surgery went well and you are feeling great! I got my band on the 5th and I am so excited about losing weight and getting healthy! Keep up the good work!
  21. I would go to the meeting! When you go you will get information about the band, how it works and they usually have patients there that will tell their story and you can ask them questions. I was like you, I knew what to do to lose weight, it just didn't work for me. You will find lots of info on this site. You will find that there are people that have huge success and those that struggle with the band. It is a decision that you have to weigh. I went with the band, because I knew I needed a tool to help me get the weight off. I am just banded so I can't tell you what this will look like long term, but so far so good! The band isn't a magic pill, it is put in place to help you learn to live a new healthier lifestyle. You have to work at losing the weight and making sure you are eating the right foods and exercising. If you are ready to make that commitment to yourself, then the band may be right for you! I encourage you to investigate and find out if this is something that can help you!
  22. Good luck with your banding! Most of the people I have talked to have not had a problem with hair loss. I think if you get your Protein you will do fine. With bypass I think it is more common because they lose weight so quickly and with the band the loss is more gradual. It seems like some loose skin is inevitable. I am really going to work on building muscle and trying to keep everything as firm as I can! Hope it works!
  23. I think it is pretty common. It is where the band was passed through and they attach the port so it stays in place. That is where most of my pain has been coming from. I had a horrible day about one week post-op, had to take pain meds again just to relax. The rest of my incisions have not hurt at all. I can feel the port 'pulling' when I walk or do anything too strenuous - I am sure it will get less distracting as everything heals.
  24. Welcome to Bandland! Woo Hoo. Keep up with those meds, that will definitely help. Make sure you keep moving and sipping!
  25. Mini Me~ What an interesting explanation of your weight plateaus. It kind of makes sense when you think about it. It would be interesting to see how many people have had that same experience!
