Thanks! Thankfully it's not in our province yet, but I guess we'll wait and see how this affects everything.
Yeah, I am really lucky that I've been able to have a great relationship with my surgeon! He's been really great, really upfront with everything and so helpful in getting me connected with the hospital and the various quotations. I hope you at least get good care and a great surgeon who will work with you on your op.
Meanwhile, I've actually felt full - highly unusual on this dratted diet - so I'm feeling guilty that I may have cheated somewhere... (can't really think where...) Ugh! Oh to not feel hunger at all!!

I'm also worried about the long term effects nutritionally, especially as we age or get a chronic/serious disease, like cancer, etc. I've asked my team multiple times for data regarding the elderly who've had this surgery in the past, and I'm simply told there isn't any. Which can't be true. People have been having these surgeries for 30 years or more. There are a significant number of people 70+ who would be dealing with the long term effects.
One staffer who had the surgery 15 years ago says she has serious osteoporosis and now needs constant medical care.
I also wonder what happens if the supply chain/pandemic/economy issues prevent the required supplements and Vitamins from being available and/or affordable.

I had mild GERD a starting a few weeks after sleeve surgery. I never had it before the surgery. So, my surgeon put me on omeprazole for a few months. There has been no recurrence since I went off it.

Be very intentional with the cardiac clearance. My nightmares started with that.
I was sent for cardiac ""clearance", but ended up with a PA who decided to go full diagnostic despite my having no symptoms. First, she said I was probably lying that I didn't have any symptoms. She gave me 2 MISdiagnoses and put me on a drug that would've killed me had I kept taking it. She required I undergo a test that almost killed me, then demanded I get an angiogram. She refused to allow me to see an actual certified cardiologist. No cardiologist ever examined me. Then, this PA completely reversed herself 180 degrees, said I was ok to have surgery after all. This PA also failed to get the proper info to insurance/billing so I could even get an estimate for all this BS for over 4 weeks! Her completely incompetent handling of everything from the paperwork to the tests to the misdiagnoses cost me over 4 months of time and agonizing stress, thinking I was dying of heart disease. I also have snapshots of the monitors from the tests and the data from the test, and the actual numbers is not what this PA wrote up in her reports to justify all her crazy ideas. She changed my data to fit her narrative and plan for more and more expensive tests/procedures.
Thank God my GP ended up getting me in to see a real doctor/cardiologist--this took an additional 6 weeks--and the only way to completely negate all the erroneous hunches and bogus guesses the PA had loaded onto my chart was to have an angiogram that proved the PA had been wrong about everything. She literally risked my life 3 separate times and caused harm. My cardiologist said to me twice that the PA "...screwed you, she really screwed you."
But of course, me, my husband and our insurance still have to pay for the over $35K in bogus tests/appointments/procedures despite them being completely unnecessary and dangerous.
It is scary that we have no control over who is calling the shots and how much of our "program" is just to bring in extra dollars for the hospital.

    Thanks for the idea.
I've already given up sugar and caffeine, but I'm a stress eater, so being stuck inside quarantined with nothing to do will be tough as I'll want to eat instead. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the perspective. I've thought about both those aspects.
If my surgery gets postponed again, I won't be able to have surgery. I'm so disgusted with the medical/insurance system right now. It's such a racket.

Hey there! I’m scheduled for bypass on Dec. 1. (Originally set for September 15, but the hospital cancelled all elective surgeries because of Covid-related capacity issues, but they’re back on track now.) I toggle between being excited, impatient, anxious, and downright terrified. 😬 Starting pre-op diet next Monday (right in time for Thanksgiving, wooooo), so right now I’m kind of in a “farewell to food” spell. Today’s farewell involved pad thai. Alas.

LadyH reacted to EsojLabina in Hit plateau after 4 weeks post op
I’m like what the hell just happen - on the day of my surgery The weight was 330 and now 289 which is not bad - I am 6’2 and my healthy weight is about 200 putting me at 130 pounds of excess weight and I’ve lost 41 pounds post op which is about 31% from that excess weight. But for the past week now matter what I do I think I hit a plateau 😤😤😤😤😤 stuck a 289. Is frustrating at the least but I know is a long love journey. I keep my food diary and basically I am doing Keto. Better get back to the drawing board and speak to my nutrition team. Anyone else has experience this post op in the initial stages????

Wow! That sounds nuts to me. 20 lbs in a month? I kinda feel like if we could do that, we don't need surgery? Good luck to you. Let me know how it goes and what you do to get through it. I start a liquid diet only (protein shakes and clear fluids) 2 weeks before my surgery date.
  14. Thanks

My pre-surg diet is just liquids--4-5 Protein Shakes per day and Clear Liquids only. Mine is for 2 weeks. I'm glad yours went well, and it sounds like it helped you get into the zone for long term success. Let me know how your surgery goes. It sounds like it's coming up soon!

I am nearing the end of the pre op diet and have found it a incredibly hard 3 weeks. It has broken my habit foods and comfort eating. I am not enjoying my diet at all. Its just food for my body.
I bought jigsaws and books. Never touched them. I feel like I have spent so much time preparing vegetables, its all I have done. Its just something to get through, we have to or the surgery is off. Good luck

Scheduled for the sleeve on Dec 22 was put in liquid diet today by Drs MA but the paperwork she sent me says 28 days before surgery which is way out from today. Also I’m to loose 5 pounds a week or 20 pounds loss by surgery date. I’m 216 and 5’7” that seems to me like a lot of weigh to loose in that time but I’m gonna try!

One strategy I'm hoping will help me to stay active and getting out of the house is purchasing some souped up winter accessories: a balaclava, insulated boots and socks, insulated gloves, scarf, and insulated hat. I figure if I can be warm outside, I can still be walking, playing with the dog, puttering, etc. I also got a puzzle and a book that I'm hoping will keep my mind occupied and me away from the kitchen during the pre-op diet.
Anyone else have some ideas to share? I'd love to hear!

    Hello Bari-Friends!
I'm looking for some friends to get through December. I start the liquid diet Dec. 1 for surgery on the 15th. I also have to quarantine, so I'm terrified about adherence to the diet. I'd love to find some like-minded people (no matter when your surgery is) to "meet" with online to share tips, strategies, fun, and progress. My surgery has been delayed repeatedly, most recently because of Covid--twice. Ugh! Now, cold weather and quarantine mean almost nowhere to go and nothing to do. It's unnerving.
I'd love to hear from you--drop a line and let's find ways to manage this cold weather, quarantined, Covid, no-food extravaganza and make it fun and exciting!
    Best to you,
    LadyVan

LadyH reacted to doobie31 in Tips for not obsessing about food
I'm early in the process and trying to lose weight prior to surgery as my surgeon has asked me to do. I know I'm among friends here who know exactly how a mind like mine works. So I'd love to hear whatever tips you have that have worked for you, even temporarily, for this simple question...
How do I stop obsessing about food?
Even when I'm eating well, way too much of my time is spent wondering when I'll be able to eat again and thinking about that next meal. Right now I'm at work, focused on work, watching a show, and still, my mind every couple of minutes drifts off to my desire to eat. If anyone has any advice for this specific difficulty, I'd appreciate it. Because if I keep thinking about it, eventually, I'm probably going to give in.
