Addiction transfer is not uncommon after weight loss surgery. When your addiction to food can’t be satisfied, you seek an alternative. Alcohol is a big concern as it’s often the easiest to slip into. Then smoking and sexual addictions. So I think @shoppgirl could be right in her suggestion as to what you may be experiencing. It’s also a control issue. Aspects of your life seem out of control because of all the changes you are making so you try to control at least one thing. In your case ignoring your hunger which then spirals into you overeating.
Yes, many swear by the help of a therapist to navigate these challenges. I’m glad you recognise some of what you’re battling & you are open to seeking a therapist to support you. That alone puts you ahead.
PS - try adding a more substantial Protein for lunch than just hummus. Try chicken or turkey tenders, fish or other seafood, etc. To me hummus & capsicum is more like a snack. Is the protein snack a snack or part of your breakfast? If it’s part of your breakfast, you may need something more textually substantial (which can be more satisfying than just a shake) at breakfast as it could be why you have the snack as well. (Remember a shake is equivalent to a meal.) Try scrambled eggs or an omelette with cheese, bacon/turkey/chicken, & some vegetables like spinach, celery, mushrooms, etc. (cook the vegetables first) or rolled oats made on milk with seeds.

We call it the 3 week stall but it can occur earlier or later. Think of it as your body needing to take a breath. It’s been going through a lot. It’s like your body shutting the door & pulling the covers over its head just like you might like to do when stressed or anxious.
And yes, just stick to your plan, let your body do what it needs to do & you’ll start to lose again. Just remember it may take 1-3 weeks.

I saw that I hadn't lost anything in 2 days, and then on day 3 I gained a pound and said "yep, it's a stall. Time to stay off the scale for a while".

Constipation is a huge concern of mine. I have had it twice since surgery (I am 6 weeks post op). I take Miralax once a day and regular Colace (stool softner) once a day. Both bouts of constipation occurred when I forgot to take the Miralax 2 days in a row. I have now set a reminder in my Baritastic app so I don't forget.

I think the quality of the food is more important than the quantity of the food. Plus, one day of eating 1400 calories is not going to cause you to gain weight.
Were you eating Protein or chips and Cookies? Were you eating real food or drinking a milkshake?
There were times at 11 weeks out when I would eat about 1000 calories or more, but I still lost weight. It was mostly days when I had exercised a lot or was awake for longer than normal (like had to get up at 3 AM for a flight).
You should eat when you're hungry, but make sure your eating healthy food, and that you're experiencing TRUE hunger not head hunger, thirst, or some other emotion.

you are probably in a stall. can last a couple weeks where you wont loose any. and its normal to gain or loose a pound. you cant be on that scale constantly. you will drive yourself crazy. Just keep at it.

I am not sure I have advise. But, I had diarrhea the first week- week and a half too. (I had bypass)
After that I became INSANELY constipated. Nothing helped, I went 6 days without using the bathroom!
When I did go the first time, it was miserable and took me over an hour. Each time got less painful, and less time in between going.
I am 4 weeks post op now, and go about every other day but it still doesn't seem normal or feel normal.
I never really feel "done" but it's like my body says, that all were letting go of this time. Hard to explain.
I am not uncomfortable anymore and hopefully it keeps getting better.
Good luck, I hope you get some relief but not the Constipation kind!

Eagles8120 reacted to MandoGetsSleeved in It WAS easy! - Confessions of a lazy loser - Almost a year out
First I want to say thank you to so many of the veteran posters on here. I hope you gals and guys know how much your experiences and feedback have helped me and I suspect many others. There's just such a fantastic mix of people and experiences - It's great knowing you aren't alone in this journey.

The first few months after surgery were easy. The weight was simply falling off, there wasn't anything I couldn't eat or drink - And better yet, I couldn't overeat because of the restriction. I felt fantastic most of the time, had all sorts of NSV's and loved my new life. From August until January I lost almost 50lbs - I was so close to Wonderland I could taste it. THEN reality struck - Suddenly I was one of those "slow losers" - It took almost 2 months to lose 13lbs. UGH, I WAS going to be one of those slow losers. OK, fine, I'm 52 and it is what it is, right? From January until May, I "only" lost 33lbs. Again, every week/month I told myself that I would lose the weight, I was just in some sort of a stall and things would magically pick up. Well, they didn't, I would lose 2-3 lbs and then I would gain 2-3 lbs. Again, "it's normal" I told myself.

Fast forward to a week ago - I jumped on here for some motivation (reading stories, etc.) and I took a hard look at what I was doing. Basically, I was being lazy - I was eating whatever I wanted and justifying it by saying "I only eat small portions" - Well, yeah, that was true...BUT I was grazing, I was drinking too much alcohol, and I wasn't tracking. I honetly have no idea how many calories I was consuming (especially on weekends with family and friends). I played mind games with myself and said "As long as I'm not gaining, I'm doing things right." - Well, that was a giant load of (@*$.

This past Tuesday (after a weekend of Mimosa's, Crown Royal, and some really great BBQ), I woke up to a 5lb gain (BTW, yes I realize some of that was Water retention). WAKE UP CALL. 5lbs? Seriously - Time to go back to basics before that's a 10lb gain. For the first time in MONTHS, I tracked every thing I tracked everything that went into my mouth (water, food, etc) - I did 3 days of liquid - In two days, those 5lbs were off. Rather than what I've done in the past, I didn't stop there - I continued tracking, I continued being cognizant of what and when I was eating. I said "no" to many things that I thought I wanted. I lost 6.8lbs from Tuesday to Sunday. What? I'm NOT a slow loser - I'm a LAZY loser.

Folks, for many of us, it's EASY in the first few months, it's EASY to convince ourselves that we're doing OK, it's EASY to compare ourselves to others, it's EASY to ignore signs that you're falling into bad habits, and it's EASY to get lazy. In reality, it's HARD to stick to your plan when you're feeling fantastic and patting yourself on the back for losing so much weight. I'm choosing to be thankful that this happened now rather than 2-3 years into it. I'm glad that reality smacked me in the face and forced me to face the fact that i wasn't doing what I needed to do. Right now it was EASY to get back on track before I let it get out of control. For those of you experiencing the same - Buckle up buttercup, start tracking, weigh yourself often if you need to, and take a good look and when and why you're losing weight and when and why you aren't.

Again, a very special thank you to you old timers for always keeping things real and giving out such fantastic advice.

a 10-20 lb weight rebound is very common after you hit bottom. In fact, I "attend" Unjury's virtual support group for people 1+ years out on Wednesday nights, and the speaker they had last week (a dietitian in Boston) said a 5%-15% gain from your lowest weight is pretty much expected, and they don't consider it a regain until it goes over 15%. Until then, it's just your body settling in at a weight it's comfortable at.
That said, things do start to get trickier, because you don't want your weight to start spiraling out of control again. A lot of people set a "red line" for themselves - a weight that, once you go past it, it's all hands on deck until you get back under that red line again.
    so anyway - yes - it's a lifelong battle.

You have already proved to yourself that you can do this. You have lost 80lbs. I heard that this can happen. Please try to keep things in check. Better to get on top of this now while the weight gain is minimal. Do you want to go back to where you were? Give yourself the gift of life. You got this. 💗

Question?? Is anyone be sides my self feel like you no longer have that food restriction feeling? I can eat just about anything and everything and I don't like that. I feel like after only 11 months PO I'm just binge eating again. Sugary foods don't bother me, I'm craving for soda that I haven't had in 11 months, I'm always feeling like I want to eat something. I was doing so good and now I have no motivation to keep going. My family always got junk food in the house and I find myself reaching for the bad things again. I've lost 80lbs, and feel like I gained some back. Please no judgement just encouraging words will help

What they dont tell you about surgery: day 7-10 is when your nerves start regenerating and those are often the most psinful days. That's why they prescribe you the soluble pain killers. After day 12 you won't feel anything

Today is the day. Its 5am and heading to the hospital soon. Surgery is scheduled for 9:30am. hopefully everything goes smoothly and recovery goes smoothly and i will be back home tomorrow afternoon. 14 days of preop diet. Was not as bad as it seemed. Tho there were plenty of times that hunger was intense. Funny thing is i could take my jetski to get my surgery too if i really wanted lol. Hospital is literally on the banks of the river and there is boat parking nearby. lmao if i could ride back home i so would have. I been to my doctors appointment before on my jetski. Its alot easier and more fun than driving there. See y'all tomorrow hopefully.

For what it's worth, all my friends are big drinkers. Social events are always boozy. I was a bit unsure how my first social gathering post-surgery would go being the only sober person and... I still had a great night! I sat on fizzy Water with fresh lime all night, felt like I was having a "fancy drink" because bubbles, and I honestly didn't miss the alcohol. Friends got drunk around me, and I laughed along with them.
So the dry route isn't a terrible one.

Why not just have soda or virgin drinks? You don't have to stay home and be left out. As long as you're there with your friends, does it matter what you're drinking? If they're you're friends, they'll understand why you aren't drinking alcohol and they'll just be glad you're there with them.

I personally don’t see the issue with having a drink. I would suggest starting with 1 drink and seeing how you feel. Remember to sip slowly as it will hit a lot harder than what you are used to and worse case scenario if you do dump you’ll be able to feel it coming sooner if you’re sipping versus drinking faster.
I hope you enjoy the wedding and spending time with your friends! ❤️

Wow, so many reasons that you shouldn't. I haven't, 12 weeks post op. First, you don't know how your new tummy will react. Do you really want to have a dumping "event," or be sick as a dog? I have heard that liquor has a greater effect after, so you could end up face first in the punch bowl-God forbid all three. I wouldn't. If they know about your surgery, and they are your friends, they will be supportive. Also, social pressure should not figure into this. Just saying.

Surgery yesterday. Pretty tough day. Still got a lot of pain and feeling so tired. The dry mouth was just awful. Walking and sipping are the most important things right now. I can’t wait to get back to my own bed!
I am home now, still feeling pretty bleh! The gas pains in my shoulder were severe on the drive home, my poor husband driving while I was moaning and groaning. This is a tough gig! Getting enough Fluid down is a concern. I’m eating yoghurt and Protein Shake, about 30 ml and i’m full. I’ve put alarms on my phone to remind myself to stop drinking half an hour before eating. Having an early night now. Hopefully feeling better tomorrow!

I am going in for surgery this morning. I am so looking forward until this is over. My nerves have settled but I am still a bit anxious and hungry. My wife is downstairs cooking turkey bacon and eggs for her and my daughter, while I upstairs wishing the next 30 days would fast forward. I just wanna eat some vegetables and a small piece of salmon! 10:30AM is not coming fast enough.
