AngieL11282 reacted to Tomo in Stall?
First off, stalls are frustrating. I've been at this game for a very long time so I understand the frustration and for me, I often felt so discouraged and was prone to going astray but just the fact that you are here, posting, you are on the right track. If you journal your intake, look at patterns or food groups, calories, carbs, fats and Protein numbers. If your calories are still in a good range, maybe temporarily change your macronutrient balance. Sometimes having higher carbs breaks me out of a stall, and other times, higher protein... Etc. Our bodies really knows how to preserve itself when it thinks it is losing too much weight. Hang in there, and I'm glad I read your post. We are all in this together.

My starting weight was 252, surgery weight was 243, and I’ve been stuck at 197 for a month almost. Honestly I’ve only lost 17 lbs in the past like 2 months. I’m 3 months post op and I’m so frustrated. I get about 90-115g of Protein a day, my job is very active… I’m so frustrated. I’m starting to worry that this is all the weight I’ll lose. Does anyone have any advice? I’m so scared I’m doing something wrong or that my surgery is just failing.

For me the first day was the worst. I had my surgery at 7:30 am and was in pain when I woke up but I said YES to all the good drugs while in the hospital (I was discharged the next day) and only took 3 oxys total after I got home. I was sore for about a week but nothing crazy. It's been amazing ever since! Good luck and congrats on your surgery!!

Reading this is so encouraging. I have my surgery on Tuesday and was starting to feel nervous. The doctor’s office said the 2nd day is the worst and it gets better from there

I’ve had the EXACT same experience so far (was sleeved 9/13) and have the same fear. It feels too good to be true? Just trying to trust the process but it’s difficult because the results aren’t instant. I was 245 when I started the pre-op diet, 230 day of surgery, and today I was 214.5 — just hoping the losses continue with solids but it has def slowed down now🤞🏻

I was sleeved on 9/7 and have had a phenomenal recovery! I have no issues with any food, reflux, pain etc. My mind is trying to play tricks on me and tell me that because I'm not suffering and can eat and drink without issue that maybe this isn't going to work for me. I do feel some restriction with food but not with fluids. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that other people have recovered like I have and gone on to be successful in losing the weight. I have 70 pounds to get to my goal. TIA! ❤️

I’m new to this site. I’m 5 weeks out from gastric bypass. I was home within 24 hrs after surgery. Soon after that I was walking around with no issues. Had no pain. The only trouble I’m having is relearning how to eat, I eat too fast or don’t eat enough. Already at the solid stage, finding it hard to figure out what I can eat, if I’m eating too much or drinking too much.

I am keeping junk food out of the house as much as possible but I did buy some Quest Protein chips and some Slim Fast Keto Fat Bombs. Just a few chips or 1 fat bomb will keep my sweet or salty craving at bay. I'm trying to be realistic and substitute bad food for less bad alternatives.... It's just not realistic for me to NEVER have a piece of chocolate or a handful of chips.

These are some of my "go-to" snack substitutes as well. I know some people advocate not eating snack food ever, but for me having a less destructive alternative to the real thing has helped me a lot.

I did my surgery on 9/7 also and I’m having a great recovery also. I’m so thankful I have no pain and I walked so fast I forget I had it sometimes. But I need to take it slow especially with three kids. I do have a hard time with food loss and learning how to eat but it’s a new change and I try to stay positive. I have three growing boys and fiancé and it’s hard when they buy junk food or things I should t eat. I don’t eat it but I do wanna say this is a big change and it’s hard any advice on how to control cravings?

That is fantastic to hear!! I have very recently started eating all real food and I am definitely seeing and feeling the difference now!! It ALMOST felt like I didn't even have surgery until I started real food! I'm currently mourning the loss of my ability to "tear up" delicious food!! 😆 LOL but I'm down 20 in 4 weeks and hoping to either sustain that pace or maybe pick it up a little! So far I'm incredibly happy with my decision to get this surgery!! Thanks for sharing your inspiring experience!! 😊

I have always thought to myself this is too easy… I had vsg 2/24/21 I am down 80 lbs since surgery and 104 lbs overall since 10/31/20. Some of it is luck and some of it I feel is good choices and embracing the lifestyle changes as well as mindset. I listen to a few wls podcasts and belong to a few wls groups. I go to support meetings offered by my surgeon’s office and spend a lot of time researching. Celebrate the NSVs and keep making new goals. Tracking helps me meet my goals, measuring everything helps me learn proper portions. Walking and weightlifting are also contributing to my weight loss. I did have 1 hiccup- gall bladder had to come out 5 months after vsg- but I did have a history of gallstones and the rapid weight loss probably was what caused my gall bladder to become inflamed. Hoping it continues to feel easy and I can stay on track for the long term.

AngieL11282 got a reaction from Tomo in Do/should you eat to restriction?
I bought some little Portion Control containers off Amazon... They measure anywhere from a couple of tablespoons all the way to 1 cup. Maybe try starting with a quarter or half cup and see how you do and adjust accordingly. I personally can eat 1 full egg with a little bit of shredded cheese for Breakfast, lunch is usually very light (protein shake and maybe a very small amount of deli meat and cheese, and last night I ate about 3-4 oz of chicken and 3-4 cauliflower florets. I am just going to do my best to listen to my body and it's cues while trying to eat slowly. You'll figure it out as you go! 🙂 We all will...

AngieL11282 reacted to laurenantics in Did you taste buds change immediately?
It was immediate for me, the Bone Broth I loved and couldn't get enough of pre-op suddenly tasted like liquid pennies to me. In general, I'm not as huge of a fan of salt as I used to be and I've found myself craving spicy as opposed to salty.

Immediately for me. The sweetness of Protein Shakes which was a couple days out was horrible to me. That’s the only change I had though. I have even tried things I didn’t like pre surgery just to see and my tastes are the same.

AngieL11282 reacted to STLoser in Did you taste buds change immediately?
It happened immediately for me. I found the Protein Shakes, which weren't too bad before, disgusting. I tried so many and they all tasted so gross. A lot of other things tasted weird too. It lasted probably the first months or so. I can drink Protein shakes now and they taste fine!

AngieL11282 reacted to Danpaul in Hungry all the time, woke up hungry
Two out of the five family/friends that have has WLS have constant hunger. The only saving grace is they have a food restriction due to the surgery. Their surgeons tell them that in some people, like them it is normal. The one piece advice that I can give you and that they practice is, do not eat around your restriction. Meaning, once you feel full (even after a few bites) STOP eating. The restriction despite your feeling of hunger will do it's job and let you know when it's time to stop eating. Do not eat around it. Both are two years post op and both have learned that the surgery did not stop them from feeling hungry. They did learn that the restriction is their most potent tool to lose weight and to try to keep it off.
