    Confession.
My team said could drink alcohol after a year.
Me being me, i had a couple sips of red wine around 3-4 weeks post op.
Was really weird, i swear i could FEEL the wine travelling through my intestines.
Then I had a couple sips or a sake-soju concoction around 2 months post. The aftermath still ranks to this day as one of my top 5 dumping episodes. *shudder*
I had maybe 5 or so PARTIAL drinks of red wine or gin/vodka tonics throughout my entire weight loss phase. Long story short, I was "affected" really fast. I also sobered up unbelievably quickly.
Now in maintenance (im over 4.5 years post op), im NOT proud to admit that i am probably (on paper), a full on alcoholic. i probably drink about 1-2 servings of alcohol a day (espresso martinis or red wine, mostly). I used to drink pre-wls, but nowhere as regularly as i do now. On the flip side, i would reach "embarrassing drunk" pre-wls, but have yet to get there post-wls. Yes, I realize i am justifying, but there u go.
As i write this, im wary of newbies reading this, as i really dont want to seem to be endorsing my lifestyle. So sorry everyone!
I guess what im ineffectively trying to say is (again) everyone is different, and it is my fervent hope that everyone knows their own personal limits and strives to stay within them.
P.S. dont drink too much if u can help it! honestly its not worth the extra stress. I have way too many conversations with myself about this that its ruining my VIBE.
P.S.S. i will now remunerate for the next couple hours if this post was a good idea or not.
P.S.S. Happy Father's day today to all awesome dads our there!! ❤️

It depends on your Surgeon. In Europe it is not a issue if you want to drink sensibly

I'm so glad you're okay! It sounds like a fun event!
And yes, alcohol is OK, in moderation and at an appropriate stage. Nothing is a no no after surgery. Life is to be enjoyed and that includes a treat occasionally.

You just had a pretty major surgery & are still recovering it’s no wonder you passed out after undertaking what is quite a strenuous activity for you at this time. Though you hit your Protein goal you still are eating very few calories, possibly have some low blood pressure & maybe some hypoglycaemia (sugar drop) as well. Check with your team as to their activity recommendations. Many of us are advised only gentle walking for the first weeks, slowly increasing.
Take things slowly & listen to your body. While you are recovering you can’t do exactly what you did before surgery but you will again soon.

Not being able to drink alcohol after surgery isn’t an absolute no @Carol97045. Sure if your post surgical plan says no alcohol for a period it time, it is best to follow that. But after that there are a few considerations around the consumption of alcohol post surgery. Empty calories & carbs is one. The habit of usually eating high fat, high sugar, high calorie, highly processed food while drinking. How your body & changed digestive system tolerates it & processes it (like feeling the effects more quickly). The most important is the possibility of addiction transfer - from food to alcohol. Does this mean you can never have alcohol again? No. What it means is you have to make your own choices around whether you do or don’t drink & if you chose to drink how much & how often based on those considerations.
I drank while I was losing. Had a gin & tonic at about 8 weeks. Nursed that drink literally for hours & didn’t have another drink for another month or so. Four years out & I still only have a drink maybe once a month & usually only one. I still take a while to drink it or sometimes don’t finish it. My choice. I don’t enjoy it in the same way either. And I used to have a drink every night. And I’m far from being alone in continuing to consume alcohol.

Summermoose reacted to catwoman7 in Bariatric surgery - long term
I had surgery eight years ago at age 55. No diabetes, though - just obesity. SUPER obesity. Also, borderline sleep apnea that I didn't know about until I did a sleep test for surgery. I lost 235 lbs and gained back about 20 lbs in year 3 post op (a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain after you hit your lowest weight is very common). Maintained ever since, but it's work. On the other hand, before I had surgery, the most I could lose was about 50-60 lbs, and every ounce of it would come back. Happened dozens of times. So yes - weight loss is sustainable after bariatric surgery as long as you monitor yourself.
I had strictures at two months out and four months out. Very easy fix. The PA at our bariatric clinic told me it was the most common complication, and that they happen to 5% of gastric bypass patients (and if they're going to happen, it'll be during the first three months post-surgery - they're very rare after that). I personally wouldn't call something that happens to 5% of people "common", but that does give you an idea of how common complications are. Basically - they're not very common.
about 30% of bypass patients have dumping syndrome. I've never had it and most of the people I know haven't had it, but some of us do. It's caused by eating too much sugar at one sitting (or for some, too much fat at one sitting seems to set it off). It's because food passes through to your small intestine much more quickly once you've had bypass, and your intestines go into overdrive trying to deal with the sugar (or...fat). It can be prevented by limiting the amount of sugar you eat at one sitting (which we should be doing regardless, even us non-dumpers).
good luck in your decision. Honestly, I should have done it years ago. My only regret is that I waited that long to have it done. My life has changed dramatically for the good. I'd go back and have the surgery done every year if I had to - it's been terrific!

Summermoose reacted to omrhsn in What sort of "good problems" you had after WLS
Hi everyone. The mid-year sales are everywhere these days and I was trying to buy new shirts and pants online (my latest addiction). The "problem" that I'm facing is that it seems all the brands that I like only had sales on the big sizes (L, XL, XXL) but not M, S or XS. I don't recall this being a problem in the past haha. It must be a good problem to have then.
This made wonder what other "good problems" I had since WLS. Here is what I could think of so far in addition to the one above:
    - I'm now working size S shirts. I need to find a brand that makes size XS shorts that fits nicely without being too tight. Two years ago, I was on the other end of the size chart / having custom-made shirt
    - We had a refresher safety training at site last week and I was chosen more than once to demo what we learned. I had to climb ladders, go into manholes (mock ones), confined spaces etc. I was never asked to do this before
    - I can't use my weight as an excuse for not doing stuff around the house that requires climbing on ladders etc.
It would be interesting to hear yours.

Same here. Just last weekend in fact. I knew that Pillaris was good for something. LOL
And nice to know the anti-aging effects of having it are still at work for you. I'd like to think we are still producing the excess Keratin. Just not to the extent that it creates those crazy bumps.

I have just returned from a three week holiday in Greece and I am exactly the same weight as when I set off. In my past I could add 7 -14 pounds to my weight. I walked around in my swimwear and did not need to hide behind a towel. So liberating

Had an unexpected NSV today. I went to the doc and they had me pee in a cup. So, I did and I COULD SEE THE CUP as I did it. No more just sort of guessing where to put it. lol

I spent all day outside today, kayaking and walking. I never once fell close to being winded, didn't need to sit down. Pre-op, I couldn't have done any of what I did today. It's so wonderful not to have to worry about whether or not my body will cooperate with my desire to be active. So freeing.

I love how there are still discoveries, big & little, even years later. Yesterday I realised the waistband of my skirts & trousers don’t roll over & scrunch anymore like they used too. And they never feel crazy tight by the end of the day because I ate too much or am overly bloated. And I wear proper waist bands all the time - elastic waists be gone. Have a flat tummy now (except for a little loose skin pooch 😆) & no rolls of fat around my tummy & middle.

met the Kid's newest boyfriend for the first time yesterday.
she told me their conversation afterwards went like this:
Him: you didn't tell me u had a sister.
the Kid: that was my Mom.
    Him: how old is she?
    the Kid: um, 50
Him: she looks like she's 27
(lol random number, but i'll take it!)
Needless to say, he is welcome over ANYTIME. 😂😂

I was feeling a little crummy about my progress (instead of weightloss punctuated by stalls it is more a stall punctuated by a few ounces lost every couple of weeks - and I am only 2.5 months out) and my hair has started falling out - then today I had an ultrasound and the technician asked me to stay while she went back to check that she had the right comparison chart - my liver shrank from 21 to 16 and from severe fatty liver to moderate - so thrilled!! - and a great reminder of why I did this!

We went to the beach over the weekend and was so ready to try the banana boat since I was below the weight limit. The queue was so long and my kids wanted to play on the sand so I ended up not doing it. Now I have a good reason to go back again.
We rented beach chairs and I was comfortably sitting on one without fearing it might break.

Just went on an awesome vacation and just loved it.
First, I noticed the change in how my airplane seatbelt fit. There was so much leftover belt.
Then, while on a short hike, I RAN uphill (sure, only about 10 steps, but still... I RAN!) just for fun.
But the most important one for me ... was the amount of pictures I allowed others to take of me. I haven’t had that many photos taken in so long.... and I felt great looking at them!

Not a new one, just a re-validation of previously-enjoyed one: I LOST weight on vacation.
I've been on a few getaways in the past 12 months, and each time I come back, i'm always lighter than when i left (after i get rid of all my obligatory vacation-constipation backup of course, lol).
I remember pre-surgery i would always come home 5-ish lbs heavier (even after a good poop)
Guess this means i should go on vacation more!
P.S. i also almost always eventually gain back the weight lost, but still!

OMG! I got sleeved April 18 of this year and this past Friday October 28th I found out I’m 6 weeks pregnant😳🙌🏾🥰🥲
Guys, I’ve been with my husband for 12 years, married for 8. We have been trying to conceive for 7 years now. I was diagnosed with PCOS from a very early age and never had regular periods. We started fertility treatments in 2016, got pregnant via IUI 2017 and miscarried 1 month later. I was devastated and waited 3 years later to try again. Unfortunately I had to get uterine polyps removed that year and had to wait. Fast forward to 2021 where we started again and was told both tubes are blocked and we would have to do IVF but had to lose a significant amount of weight to be below the max BMI to do it. That is when I decided to get sleeved.
It’s now Jan 2022, I started researching Dr’s, found one in February and we started the entire process. Surgery was a success, lost 86lbs reached my goal weight about 3 weeks ago and then BOOM this.
Guys I’m so scared! I’ve read horrow stories of complications and etc. I do want to be excited for this miracle but I also feel like what if?
Please share your stories with me, share any encouraging words, anything guys. I have waited what seems like a lifetime for this moment, for this blessing, for this miracle and I want to enjoy every single moment of it!

Baby is here and healthy. He’s perfect!

All the sickness I had experienced during pregnancy and thought was dumping or surgery related seems to be mostly just from the pregnancy and not the surgery.

I had an extremely uncomplicated pregnancy and birth.

Good luck to anyone navigating pregnancy after wls! You’ve got this.
