The loss slows to an absolute crawl the closer you get to your bodies happy weight. I wouldn’t give up though just yet.

Some do some don’t. It can depend on how much weight you had to lose, your rate of loss, etc. I lost for almost another 11 months after I reached goal at 6 months. It was extremely slow the last few months but it was the weight my body wanted to be at (my new set point). Generally it is more difficult to lose weight in your second year. Your hunger starts to return, you’re eating larger portions, etc.
If you’re doing strength training & putting on muscle that will be distracting from any weight loss you may be still having. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. Also everyone’s rate of loss slows the closer to their goal weight.
Not every one reaches their goal. Gastric sleeve patients tend to lose 50-70% of the weight they have to lose (difference between starting weight & ideal weight). This is where the average lie at about 3 yrs post surgery. You will reach a weight that genetics, your new set point & metabolism are happy at & also a weight that you can sustain while living your life how you want.

Three weeks is barely a stall! I know people who stay the same weight for months, then WHOOOSH! lose a few pounds.
It is definitely harder to lose weight as you get closer to goal/a healthy weight.

You can depend upon the saying the closer to goal the slower the weight loss. My last two kgs were a b*tch to lose. So close yet so far. Don’t give up or think it’s over. You’ll likely get there in your body’s own time.

Hello everyone. I had my VSG surgery on November 15, 2021 and I feel like I am at a stall and I'm looking for a gym buddy in my area San Antonio, TX. I feel awkward going to the gym on my own. I have no idea where to start and would appreciate having someone who knows what I am going through. I'd love to push you on with your weight loss goals and hopefully be able to push myself also in this weight loss journey. I see the before and after pictures of many of you and you all look so GREAT! I am ready to work on myself.

Like most surgeries, my first three days were rough. I did make myself start walking right away. First day wasn’t much, maybe a block or so. I slowly increased every day. I’ve always felt gentle exercise helps me with pain control, plus it’s good for prevention of post op complications like blood clots and pneumonia. By week three I was back to work full time as a nurse.

Well, there were varying degrees of pain so...
I can tell you that I had to take pain meds (oxy) for about a week after my plastics (as compared to after wls, when I didn't take any pain meds at all outside the hospital)
If i remember correctly, couldn't stand up straight for about 3-4 weeks due to the Tummy Tuck, and i couldn't raise my arms above my shoulders for about 4-5 weeks due to the arm lift. There was minimal breast lift pain, if at all.
I was probably completely pain free around the 3-4 month mark...but i had re-injured myself twice before that because I didn't listen to my doc about taking it easy (i was itching to go running and busted open my stitches in several places...TWICE...oops)
So if i didn't eff myself up, I probably would've been pain free much earlier.

Who was your surgeon for plastics? You look amazing!!! Also, did he do your legs? I’m worried about my legs and of course my lower tummy. Thank you for any advice 🙏

I hear ya. Im pain adverse as well.
BUT. A temporary bit of pain is worth years of awesomeness, in my opinion lol.
Case in point: I just had another session of botox and fillers this morning and while i was almost in tears while i was in the chair, all is now forgotten as im totally loving my cheekbones now 😇 (as well as my non existent naso-labial lines!)
    yeah, colour me VAIN.
    Its all good.

I went to Dr. Alex Earle in Miami. He didn’t touch my legs, but the Tummy Tuck gave them a bit of a lift too. Down by my knees, not so much. A thigh lift will happen at some point but i just bought a home and am taking two big vacations this year so it’s been deferred.

I definitely seem puffy in my nether regions, but I don't think I have the pain tolerance for plastics. I'm really impressed with y'all's results.

I’ll chime in too. Plastics took care of this for me as well. I had a big hanging apron of skin pre plastics. Now it’s gone.

    Hi!
First, congratulations on the weight loss! Yay! 🎉💪🏼👍🏼
Second, i got down to a BMI 20 at my lowest weight (down from BMI 43) and i still had a noticeable (to me) lump on my pelvic region.
it only went away after i got a Tummy Tuck. But thats just me. Others may have got a different outcome.
P.S. This was me pre-plastics at about BMI 21. You can see my fupa trying to bust out of the top of the swim bottoms. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When i wore leggings i would joke that I was packing down there.
And I don’t think losing any more weight would have helped…

I lost 93lbs in the first 6 months after I got a vsg. I have 20lbs until I reach a healthy weight and was wondering how much weight did you lose per month after 6 months?

There are a couple of things you can pretty much depend upon after weight loss surgery. One: the more you have to lose the faster you’ll lose at the beginning. Two: the heady exciting weight loss rate you have at the beginning doesn’t continue. Three: the closer you are to your goal weight the more slowly you’ll lose. Welcome to experiencing the frustration of number three. The scale that hardly moves. Your goal weight is just there in touching distance. The days & weeks slowly pass with little to show…. But don’t worry, you will get there. Your weight loss is slowing because you’re eating more & are getting to the point where you are consuming the number of calories your body needs to function.
Congrats on your weight loss so far. Whoo hoo!

    I’m 24, 173cm, my pre-op weight was : 256lbs (116kg)

    Surgery weight : 113kgs (249)
    Month 1 : -9.7kgs (21 lbs)
    Month 2 : -5.5kgs (12 lbs)
    Month 3 : -5.7kgs (13 lbs)
    Month 4 : -2.3 kgs (5 lbs)
    Month 5 : -3.1 kgs ( 7 lbs)
    Month 6 : so far -4,3 kgs (9lbs)
    Current weight : 83 kgs

It’s been 6 months and 11 days since my surgery and I’ve lost 33 kgs since my preop weight. As you can see, sometimes the loss is very minimal, but visually I’ve lost a lot of inches, I’ve had a lot of stalls, but you have to focus on something else and remember that even if the scale isn’t budging you are STILL loosing and you’re still having amazing non scale victories. I’m still 13kgs from my goal weight, but since I started lifting weights, I don’t care about that goal weight and I just want my body to be strong and lean regardless of the number on the scale.
    Good luck !

    Start pre-op: 112 kg / 247 lbs
    Surgery: 108 kg / 238 lbs (- 9lbs)
    1 mo: 99 kg / 218 lbs (- 20 lbs)
    2 mo: 93,5 kg / 206 lbs (-12 lbs)
    3 mo: 87 kg / 192 lbs (-14 lbs)
    4 mo: 84 kg / 185 lbs (-7 lbs)
I started at BMI 35 so my weightloss has not been as fast as others, but I'm happy with it.
I'm almost 5 months post-op right now, so I don't have more data. I'm just a few pounds away from a healty BMI and my weightloss has definitely slowed down. I've also been struggling since the holidays. Have been eating more crap than I should. Having trouble getting back on track. Would ideally like to get down to 70 kg, but I can't even remember ever being that weight, so I honestly don't even know if that's a realistic goal.

everyone is different because people start at different BMIs, are different heights, some people have a higher percentage of muscle, some people have higher metabolism rates, some people are more active, etc etc etc. It took me almost two years to lose all my weight because I had over 200 lbs to lose, but I CAN tell you that those last 20 lbs or so are a b***ch to get off. It takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
basically, the closer you are to a normal BMI, the slower it goes...my last few months I lost like 2 lbs a month.
