September 16th surgeries
My Dr said that they really aren't doing the RNY anymore. He said that they haven't done one since they began doing the band...must be the going trend. Much safer also.

September 16th surgeries
Amen Janine!! lol I was tired of sweet, chocolaty stuff by Thurs. I have one heck of a time stomaching the protein powder. I am sticking with my low carb slim fast for now. I ordered some protein bullets that have I think 42g protein for 3oz...the flavors are grape, fruit punch and so on. I can't wait until they come in. I did read the same thing Teri about nit absorbing more than 30g of protein at one time. So I am thinking that I am going to have to slit up the 3oz...even easier! :rolleyes2: I will let you guys know how they are once I get them.

Curves??
I agree with Steph co, I went to curves (pre-band) and the harder you work it the better you are. When I was really dedicated to it I lost around 12 inches all over and went down a pants size. It is like anything else it works well if you work it! I didn't loose much weight at all, but did loose a ton of inches. I did try to stay on the machines a little longer (1 minute) if there weren't alot of people that were behind me. I can't wait to get back to it with my new band. Hope this helps. For anyone else that has done Curves how long after surgery did you wait to get back to it?

September 16th surgeries
I finally had a BM this morning, I was starting to worry a bit. I am feeling pretty good today. Almost back to normal, except for the occasional discomfort from the port site. I am pretty sure that most of the gas has passed. I think alot of the edema is going down, I was able to meet my fluid requirements yesterday. Didn't meet the protein yesterday, but aiming for it today. Brenna's Mama - I am allowed to have "full liquids" pretty much anything that you can sip through a straw (with no straw of course) I can have strained cream soups, pudding, thinned mashed potatoes, protein shakes...I then move on to mushies after two weeks and then onto soft foods. Hope this helps.

September 16th surgeries
Hey guys, I was just wondering how much you guys are taking in each day so far protein, liquids and such. I know I am not getting all that they wanted me to, but I am having a hard time getting much down at all. I am getting really full quickly and full even with water. I suppose it is still the edema, I just don't want to harm myself from not having enough. Any thoughts, or ideas...

September 16th surgeries
Hello, feeling much better today. I think alot of my trouble eating yesterday was a mix of the edema and gas. The gas finally started moving last night, and is still rumbling today. But much more comfortable today. I was actually able to get down some pudding this morning. I had trouble getting the high protein stuff down yesterday. Gonna try some more today. Got up this morning at 4am starving and had a couple oz of sugar free JELLO. So I knew then that I was feeling better. This afternoon is 48 hours and I will be allowed to take off my bandages and shower! Ahh, that will be wonderful! Hope everyone has a good day! Amber

September 16th surgeries
I got home yesterday around 3:30 pm, arrived around 7:00am. Surgery went well, my O2 SAT's kept staying fairly low so they had me on O2 for a bit after. With some deep breathing though they went right up. I had a hard time staying awake after they brought me back in to the recovery room. I slept pretty much the whole way home. Not alot of pain, most of course around the port site. My most trouble is scooting up on the couch and standing up from it. I had some yogert this morning, did ok with that. Tried my protein shake a bit ago, had a few ounces but got full very quickly and honestly really didn't want anything to do with it. I am going to try a bit more after I get off here. Hope the eating gets a bit easier, I am afraid I am going to have a hard time getting in all of my protein and fluids for the day otherwise. Glad to hear that everyone is doing ok.

September Banders,How long will you take off work?
Hi guys, I am scheduled for banding on the 16th. I am a Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant, so the nurse suggested I take 3-4 weeks off since I do alot of driving and lifting. Just found out today that my EKG was abnormal, I see the cardiologist tomorrow. I hope that it is false and everything is ok, makes me want the band even more for my health.

Newbie in Southeastern Ohio
Hi, I am Amber. I am impatiently awaiting my first consult appointment with the surgeon on 8-8-08. The weight loss clinic says my insurance is pretty good about covering as long as the psyc. eval goes alright. I have been waiting to be on Hubbys insurance before posting...my insurance pays nothing on banding. Should be getting my info packet from weight loss center soon. Hope to be having surgery by sometime in Sept. Thanks for all the great info that everyone has posted...it has been a great help to me in deciding on surgery as my option.
