It made me happy to see that.
Also that my breasts are no longer resting on the fat that was on my ribs. They are getting their natural hanging shape back.
I can zip up my boots all the way up my calves, still a snug fit, but three weeks ago, it was not possible!

I had originally gone to my surgeon to repair a symptomatic ventral hernia. I had not even considered surgery for weight loss before I spoke to him. I just did not realize it was an option for me.
Over the last year I had a number of things go wrong, aside from losing my job due to covid, my husband died of alcoholism. He was a cruel drunk and I spent the last two years with him wearing a headset to block out his raging and hiding in video games from his cruelty. I gained a lot of weight quickly. My labs were growing increasingly bad, my liver enzymes elevated, and then I was diagnosed with parathyroid disorder and prediabetic.
Finally it dawned on me after I was given the option for weight loss surgery, it was time to reclaim my life and move forward and find my happiness. I was told the surgery would likely correct the things that had been popping up as long as I follow the program and lose the weight.
That is what I am doing and my life is slowly being reshaped as I take each step towards a healthier lifestyle.

The impact being morbidly obese had on my life was everywhere. I was ashamed of how I looked and didn’t want to see people anymore. I hated eating in public thinking of what people thought of me. Constantly wondering if I’d fit in chairs/certain places. Knowing I was unable to fly in a plane due to my size. Not being able to buy clothes or take any pride in my appearance. Feeling sluggish and lazy all the time. Feeling out of control and ruled by food and the ever increasing scale. And finally knowing that my children deserved a mother that had energy and enthusiasm for life again.

I’m still in my journey, I have 41 lbs to go to reach goal. But 135 lbs down and I’m “overweight” now, I can run and have energy again, I can buy clothes at regular stores and I love how I look, and I’m finally taking care of an issue that’s plagued me since grade school. I would do it all over again a dozen times if I had to.

I love these lists! I’m still 52 lbs from goal, but so far I have a whole list:
    1. Not feeling like I have to rush home to get into pajamas because it’s the only thing that doesn’t feel like it’s strangling me. Bras just fit better when you arent as fat, who knew.
    2. Chairs! Chairs with arms! Flimsy looking chairs! Patio chairs!
    3. So much variety in clothes, and I can wear styles I like instead of huge frumpy cardigans over everything. I can thrift now, and shop in pretty much any store.
    4. I feel like I have energy and interest in doing things again. I don’t just want to hide out at home and eat all weekend long.
    5. Not being terrified of running into someone I knew 10+ years ago in public because of how fat I’d gotten.
    6. I can go up the stairs and not die. I can exercise and not feel like I might die. Amazing.
    7. I wore a pair of shorts yesterday and they weren’t Bermuda length! And my thighs didn’t start a small fire.
    8. I like my facial features so much better now. My eyes look bigger, my jawline actually exists, and I look more like myself.
    9. At my heaviest my arms stuck out weird because of the fat, and my legs were always at a weird angle because of fat as well. I can rest my arms by my sides and stand with my feet together.

Your surgery sounds very interesting. I had revision surgery from sleeve to bypass on May 10th. I didn’t realize how hard the surgery would be. Instead of 3 hours it took 6 hours. The Doctor found so much scar tissue he had to do the bypass a different way. I was out all day the 10th and don’t remember anything until sometime the next day. I was so confused and saw and thought things that weren’t real. My oxygen level was very low which I guess caused the confusion. I stayed at the hospital until late Wednesday evening. I feel like the left side of my stomach has been punched a hundred times. It was a horrible experience. I was sent home with very mild pain meds. The pain was non stop. I called the Doctor and he gave me something stronger which helped. My throat was so sore. It was like the worst sore throat ever. The tube was too large for my throat. They had to find a smaller tube that would go down.
I’m feeling better every day but still sore and extremely tired. I’m tired of liquids this is my 3rd week on just liquids. One more to go. I miss food. It’s really a withdrawal. It’s getting better. I keep thinking one more week and I can have something different.
The new journey had a difficult start but I know it will get better. I’ve lost 26 pounds so far. That’s the good part.

    Hi all, new here!
Wish I found this before I had surgery.
I had my RNY done at a military hospital, an they are crazy full, so my first surgery date of April 6th was canceled due to lack of beds, it was quite frustrating, but I just told myself if the hospital is full of Covid patients, I would rather not be there.
But, I had my surgery May 6th along with ventral hernia repair. I was not the typical patient it seems. The anesthesia kept me quite out for a very long time, I don't even recall when I woke, but my surgery was about 8 AM and the first time I have clear memories of being awake was 3 AM the following morning.
On top of that I developed a large blood clot in my new little pouch. It kept me nauseated for a day and nothing helped. As my stomach was already full, every time I tried to sip at something I just threw it back up. It lasted about 24 hours until I violently expelled it all. It was gross, like something out of a horror movie.
The nurse in charge of my care that day told me he'd not seen anything like it, then told me how the surgeon and he thought it interesting enough to poke at the clot before disposing of it... ewe! So I guess it's a rare thing as the Army hospital I had mine done at does a lot of bariatric surgery.
Once my stomach was clear however recovery was on track. I had already been up and walking, and peeing eve when I had the clot. I was able to progress from clear liquid to full liquid that day. Though I was kept for observation and repeat labs the next day to ensure there was no more clotting.
Everything looked good and I was sent home on the 9th in the evening. Happy Mother's day. >_<

I am currently still on full liquid diet, have zero appetite, though when my son cooks up something yummy I do wish I could join in in eating, but it does not make me hungry. I have two adult sons who love to cook.
The weight is falling off daily, since I have been home from the hospital I went from 231 on the 9th to 216 today. Pain is still constant but not too intense, energy is low as I do not really take in more than 500 calories a day and unfortunately I was unlucky enough to have the entire lower part of my stomach turn into one large bruise, which is finally lightening.

Over all it was not too bad, though the moment I woke I had instant regrets, but that is because those first few hours were just miserable. I am absolutely pleased now and am amped for healing and recovery to be over and just getting on with life!
