Crisscat got a reaction from KimA-GA in 6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
I lost 0 lbs in 5 weeks. Yes it can happen and it is normal. I lose alot slower than others on here because I have a knee issue and cannot walk any real distance (I need a knee replacement and keep putting it off).
I believe I lost 22 lbs pre op then 14 lbs in like 9 days post op then after that I was on a 5 week stall no weight loss whatsoever. It can certainly play mind games with you.
I am 5 months post op and I lose only about 7-10 lbs per month. But not all months, for example in Sept I think I only lost 5 or 6 lbs and so far October isnt looking that great either lol. I just take what I can get at this point. As long as I am not gaining, I see it as a small victory

    This.
Some people have weird expectations in the long run. However, sometimes I think their surgeons even fuel that expectation or at least they do nothing to combat that (false) expectation.
Dr. Weiner has an interesting video about growing portion sizes on YT. Interesting chart at about 1:30 min

You won't permanently stretch out your pouch over one meal. It takes overeating repeatedly over time.
Also keep in mind that ounces of Protein is a measurement of their weight, not volume. While 4 ounces of most meats will be about the same size, the 4 ounce rule doesn't apply to other things. The only thing where we generally use ounces as a volume measurement is liquid ounces.

21 lbs in five weeks is very normal. We started off at about the same weight, and that's about where I was at that point
I think shows like "My 600 lb Life" give people unrealistic expectations about their weight loss. You have to remember that those people start off at MUCH higher BMIs than the average WLS patient. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. So your loss is perfectly normal!
I went on to lose over 200 lbs - so the surgery works as long you're committed and stick to your plan.
Edited to add that almost all of us hit our first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery. It's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall". That may explain the 2 lb drop over those couple of weeks (367 to 365 lbs). If you search this site for "the three week stall" you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding).
but overall, you have lost 21 lbs since surgery. Again, that's a normal loss for the first five weeks.

My bariatric surg was 8/8/22 5’6 highest weight after 4 kids (2,4,7,9) and a challenging relationship with their dad for 14 years. Down maybe 30lbs by now. When I was told on 9/12 I had a 26lb weight loss and told my GB had a stone so 10/3 is my surgery. It came to surface bc my pcp needed a f/up mri from a pancreatic cyst and Found excess Fluid in my stomachs.
my surgeon said normal but not my gallbladder even the cyst is normal. Worse part is my mother and auntie both very judge mental and critical told me to pray. My mom
said “People Get addicted to Surgery, not bc you feel better Eventually but bc the anesthesia😳😒) this being a Med necessity! But I’m so tired of the non support I’d honestly threw in the towel recently.

My stall came at 3 weeks and lasted a full 5 weeks!! I was about to pull my hair out over that one so I truly hope I dont have a second stall lol. I have been gradually losing 2-4 lbs a week once the stall passed. So I am on average right now with my monthly weight loss according to my team and others in here as well. I take what I get as long as its weight loss and no weight gain. Every number gone is a win for me.

I told no one except my husband. I didnt tell anyone because I felt it was a decision I made for my health and a better me. I have witnessed others derogatory comments/statements of others. I feel bad enough on my own accord that I allowed myself to become this big that I didnt want to hear what other ppl thought too good or bad.
INo one has said anything to me about the 50+ lbs I lost already except for my boss. She said she could definitely tell but no one else including my own family has not said a word. LOL I am beginning to wonder how much I need to lose before others says something. I have lost and gained weight before so maybe they are waiting for that to happen again who knows lol.
When my boss asked me about it I just said the truth, I am drinking more Water and taking in higher amounts of Protein while reducing my carb intake. She was satisified with my answer...it was a Win, Win.

My eval was probably 30-45 mins long. I was asked questions about why I felt I overeat and I just explained how my childhood was no real set points on how much we should eat etc. I told her I just ate to eat no real reason other than I liked food. My psch eval was pretty low key nothing hard to answer

I will give this a shot and set an alarm if I have to. I was actually planning on after surgery drinking a few ounces every 15 mins to make sure I get enough fluids in. Thanks

Does anyone have a hard time getting 64 oz of fluids in during a day? I know this may sound odd but I rarely get that much Fluid in each day. I am struggling with pre op fluids so Im actually worried about post op once I have surgery on May 3rd. As far back as I can remember I do not drink that much fluids. Ive really been watching it lately and keeping track, if I am lucky I may get about 50 ozs in sometimes 55 ozs. If I push it and drink the 64 oz amount I literally feel bloated and sick to my stomach. I started my pre op liver shrink diet today and since 530pm I have been bloated and feel horribly full. If Im like this pre op how the heck will I be post op.....😲😕

Recognize and pay attention to the "effects" of eating too much for your sleeve. I got so close to throwing up twice. Once I broke out in a sweat and had a runny nose. The second time was like heart palpations, runny nose and being centimeters from actually throwing up. It was awful to stay the least lol. You would think it would only take once to recognize it but as with everything for me it took twice lol.
I sometimes get skiddish to eat for fear of losing track with eating too much. By the time my nose starts running Ive already had 1 or 2 bites too much.
Dont over buy all the "stuff" needed for post op. You more than likely dont need it and wont eat or drink it. I have a couple of bags of things I thought I could use but I never did. You dont feel like eating and its something to build up to.
Ditto to what everyone else said about comparing yourself to others. Some will lose quicker and some will lose alot slower (this is me). It can be frustrating and discouraging but itis what it is and its your body's way of handling the weight loss.
And ditto to measuring yourself you will see the difference. I was at my dads birthday party this past Saturday and my oldest brother was videoing and got me in the shot. When I saw the video I was horrified at how I looked and quickly realized I have just lost 52 lbs. A couple things went through my head: 1) if I thought I looked bad now imagine how I looked 52 lbs ago. 2) I could see the difference enough to realize I needed to keep going no matter how long it takes. So pictures and measurement help to put things in to perspective.

    huh.
My surgeon said it was because the risk of swallowing it was just too great, however small each patient thinks it may be. Our pouches / new stomachs are the perfect size for a piece of gum to muck it up. And unlike actual food, it doesn't dissolve. When you have to stick a grabber down someone's throat almost weekly, you tell your other patients "just don't chew gum."
    Good luck,
    Tek

I was also told no on gum from my surgeon. Found this info online
not to chew gum after their weight loss surgery. First, some gums can have a lot of sugar, which contributes unnecessary calories into the diet, making it harder to lose weight. But, even if they opt for a sugar free version, chewing gum can cause problems in bariatric patients.
The act of chewing gum allows air to enter into your digestive tract. For people who haven’t had bariatric surgery, this may not cause any problems. But for bariatric patients having air in their digestive tract can lead to gas and abdominal discomfort.
In the first few weeks after gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, or lap band surgery, some patients report excess saliva. Chewing gum can also lead to saliva production, potentially compounding their problem.
Another problem with gum chewing after bariatric surgery is the potential for any swallowed gum to cause a blockage. After gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, or lap band surgery patients are educated to chew their food thoroughly to a paste like consistency. As much as you chew your piece of gum, it will never be such a consistency. The wad of gum can potentially lead to a blockage if swallowed. Most do not find the risk worth it.
    A great place

I think its because that by chewing the gum, your stomach thinks its getting food. It activates the digestive juices which includes stomach acid. You aren't going to be eating anything so the stomach acid may inflame the staple sites etc (immediately post op that is). The excess stomach acid may also cause issues with acid reflux and for some people excess stomach acid can seem like hunger.
While chewing the gum you may also swallow some air which can make your stomach gassy and cause bloating. sugar free gum sometimes has those sugar alcohols which can cause a lot of stomach discomfort if you have too much of them.
I imagine various surgeons/clinics have different guidelines around gum and their own reasons for it.
If you are aren't chewing too much of it and only occasionally you probably should be okay, but perhaps send off an email to the clinic as to their reasons and you can decide from there.

My biggest hurdle was the pre op diet lol. But after week one it wasnt so bad. As everyone else has mentioned the nerves and anxiety comes naturally. Day of my surgery I was chit chatty to the point of not shutting up. I talked to anyone and everyone and as they were wheeling me in to surgery I guess they had enough because they knocked me out before they even transferred to the surgery table LOL, Best thing that happened to me because I didnt have time to think about it before I was sound asleep ha! 😛
You will do just fine best wishes to you
