Pre-op
Same with mine. We knew up front that there was a liquid diet requirement. The closer it got we had to see the dietician and we received what those requirements for the liquid diet were. I think mine was discussed 3 times as well

Can you ever drink soda again after surgery
I just tried the Milos Zero tea its pretty good. Usually I cant stand the sickening sweet tea taste of most brands. Alot of times I had to dilute it with water. This one was fine just out of the bottle

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay
My Dr requires 24 hour observation. The morning after surgery we are required to have a liquid swallow test to make sure there are no leaks.

May 2022 surgery?

Shortest surgery date from first visit/consultation
My first consult was 10/29/21 (Im in IL). I had no requirements for my insurance to meet other than attending some workshops the WL Clinic had. I just got my surgery date 2 weeks ago for May 3rd. So my wait wasnt necessarily due to insurance, it was the WL clinic's requirements that had me waiting.

How much calcium??
I figured the ones that said multi was the vitamin but I wasnt sure what all the flavors were if they were all calcium or something else. I am not familiar with Bariatric Advantage and was sent these in a sample pack

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
I agree with this statement. I am a US citizen my husband is not. He is from England and the times I was in England with him the socializing and drinking blew my mind. It is a different culture abroad. I just went with it. I was there to spend time with him and I did not drink alcohol (this is several years ago, no WLS). I did not drink for two reasons, 1. no way I could keep up with a Brit 2. I didnt want to be drunk off 2 drinks and miserable for him to deal with lol Like another poster said, you dont have to drink to have a good time with friends but Id definitely try something lighter just to see how your able to tolerate it. Maybe try something at home first before the wedding in case you have an adverse issue at least you can deal with it and know how it will affect you ahead of time.

How much calcium??
I requested and received a sample package from Bariatric Advantage. I received individual packets of iron and then some loose chewy ones. There are several different flavors. I do not know what they are tho no information provided besides the brochure. A couple of them say Multi on it so those I am assuming are the multivitamins but what are all the other flavors they only say the flavor on the wrapper? I also received HPMR, banana, choc and strawberry that I will try on Monday. Can anyone identify the chewy ones?

Pre-Op Broth?
Based on your high recommendation I just ordered a sample pack from Unjury! ?

A delay
For most it can be a lengthy process. For others not so much. Just depends on your insurance requirements and the WLS clinic you are going to. Lots of tests and preliminary things to do. Hang in there. Ive been waiting since Oct 29, 21 first consult but its gone pretty quick and Ive completed everything that was needed.

Gaining
I started carb counting and restricting the amount of carbs I ate after I went to a Drs appt and only lost barely a half pound. I journal everyday and have My Fitness Pal app. I have lost 10 lbs since 4/8 last Drs appt. I do really well with restricting my carbs when Im disciplined. Ive just started my pre op diet so I am hoping to lose alittle more before surgery day. I was eating low carb, low fat and high protein diet. I eat mostly fish and baby spinach, baked or boiled chicken breasts, salads sometimes. broc and Ill eat alittle cheese at times. I have been now switched over to the preop diet oh and I was previously eating the Ratio Protein yogurt to bump up my protein.

Confused by Consult
I have never had GERD. I did question my surgeon about GERD and the probability of getting it after sleeve surgery. I also asked her what percent of her patients that had a sleeve came back to her with GERD (having no prior history of it). She looked pretty shocked when I asked her that but was able to provide a pretty detailed response. She did an EGD on me Feb 9th and said very thing looked normal and great. So hopefully I dont get GERD lol

Can you ever drink soda again after surgery
Id be afraid Id be able to tolerate it and go back to my old behaviors. I drank way to much Dt Coke. Ive got it down to 1 16.9 oz bottle a day and now about 8oz a day to hopefully conquer it. At this point I dont even want to try a sip post op no matter what phase I am at. Im actually hoping my taste changes after surgery to dislike Dt Cokes LOL. Ohh and my surgeon says no sodas ever and no straws.

Fluid Intake
Im actually doing much better than what I was when I made this post. I have had to adjust how I was doing things. Now by about 1130am I have half of the water drank. So things are looking up a bit good in that respect. I should imagine after surgery Ill be right back where I was struggling to get it down lol Does anyone have a particular protein powder they could suggest for the first week after surgery in case my tastes change?

19 days post VSG, finding it isolating and lonely
I have not had my surgery yet but its fast approaching, May 3rd. There is only 1 person who knows, my husband. I have older kids and younger kids (2 are still at home). Like others have said in their posts, I do not find it to be anyone's business that I have a sleeve. My kids I have not told because the older ones do not come around enough anyway to visit and Ill probably be on regular food by the time they do lol. My younger 2 children that are still at home (girl 17, boy 11) I have not told because my youngest son would be worried like crazy on surgery day. I do not want to cause any undue stress for him. As for my coworkers, no one knows from there either. I do believe most would be supportive because I had 3 coworkers who had gastric bypass. Two of which is on a fast track of gaining their weight back post surgery 4 yrs. At current I am still working from home and only go to the office 1 week a month. I was just there last week and one coworker said I looked like I have lost weight since she last saw me (Ive lost 17 lbs in the last few months) but I didnt think it was noticeable. Obviously we cannot dodge the looks and questions post surgery because we are losing weight, but at least I dont have to be judged or questioned why I would go down this road ahead of surgery. I kindof view it this way its my health, my decision. Once its done its done. My hubby is from (W Yorkshire) England and he left his family, friends and country because he loves me. He is very supportive of me. He doesnt necessarily agree with the surgical aspect of things but I know he will be there for me and will help me through the mood swings, the pain and he knows if I go down a dark path of thoughts to give me his hand and help me back to where I need to be (I hear some ppl become depressed post op) I have never experienced that but if I do he will be there to help me. He always has been. You will tell ppl in due time as you feel more comfortable (as will I perhaps) and I agree with what blackcatsandbaddecisions said If brought up we dont have to talk about it especially if its from a judgmental person/family member!

I KNEW this would happen!!!!!
LOL I wondered ?

Fluid Intake
Good point! I have heard many say they could only take sips until the swelling went down. I had forgot about that....Thanks
-
Fluid Intake
Today is Day 2 for me and I have 32 ozs in already. Plus I had some sugar free jello and I think that counts as a fluid as well?

I KNEW this would happen!!!!!
You've already done your covid test for surgery?? Im not allowed to do mine until 2 days before surgery!

Fluid Intake
I will give this a shot and set an alarm if I have to. I was actually planning on after surgery drinking a few ounces every 15 mins to make sure I get enough fluids in. Thanks
