I was going to jump in with a rant about the demonization of potatoes as well. Sure it's high in carbs but they are also loaded with Vitamins and nutrients. I'm unsure where people got the idea that they are of no nutritional value because it isn't accurate. Can you find those nutrients in lower carb options? Absolutely, but lets not trash the potato unfairly. A few minutes on google can expand on the details but I know they are a source of potassium and B6 as well as Fiber.
Anyway, if your body tolerates them they are fine in moderation. I'd focus on Protein first obviously but you can definitely try a little and see how it goes.

Reach out to your medical team, you'll want to talk to your nutritionist and probably behavioral therapist. You haven't ruined anything yet but you'll want to break the bad habits now that you're recognizing them.
As far as diet goes, don't try to do a 'reset' and go back on only liquids or anything overly restrictive. Just get back to prioritizing Protein, limiting 'junk', staying hydrated. Try to work some more movement into your day. Be kind to yourself.

I'm about 8 months out and I could easily get my Protein from 'normal' food however I choose to have 1 Protein Shake per day because I like it for Breakfast and also then I just don't have to think about protein again for the rest of the day because I know I'll hit the rest through food no problem. But if you had eggs for breakfast, greek yogurt and fruit for snack, lunch meat and cheese for lunch, Jerky and nuts for snack, meat and veggie for dinner you'd easily hit your goal for the day once you are able to consume a few oz at a time and you'd have a pretty balanced day.

My week 1 was clears plus Protein Shakes. Then full liquids which included yogurts, Jello, Soups, thinned oatmeal, etc. It gets much easier when you on to full liquids and then puree's feels like heaven when you reach that!

The healthy choice power bowls look like they might be a good choice. About 200 calories for whole thing but you'd probably only eat half, decent Protein, carbs aren't too bad.
I'm a big fan of the P3 packs with meat, cheese and nuts. Precooked chicken is an easy go to. Cooked frozen shrimp you could just microwave and toss in a premade sauce with a microwaved veggie. Jerky meats are typically a good option.
They make Keto cereals now that are decent macros if you just wanted a bowl of Cereal with milk.

Wanted to agree with this. Just because labs are showing 'normal' doesn't necessarily mean that's the normal for your body. Lab tests have a normal range and your body may function better at the higher end of normal. B Vitamins from what I understand are Water soluble so if you take an excess it will exit your body in your urine and thus its difficult to take to much. Definitely try to increase your Iron even if it's slightly low. I'm not sure what thyroid tests you had ran but if it was only a TSH you may need more in depth testing. There are a variety of antibody tests that most doctors won't run unless its requested and thyroid issues can hide behind normal results of just the basic tests.
I would also experiment with your diet, add more fat, more carbs, even more sugar (within reason) and see how that makes you feel. Carbs can be brain food and if you are super restricted it may result in some of these symptoms.
Don't give up, I hope you find something that helps you feel better!

Learning to feed your body on hunger cues and not your feelings may be something you need to work through in therapy. Most bariatric programs worth their salt will have you do a behavioral evaluation. You'll want to be honest with them about these things and start working on them early so that you can get ahead of yourself.
I'm not one of those people who's taste suddenly changed after surgery. Now at 6 months out there's very little I cannot eat if I choose to. It's a matter of making the better choices. I for sure still have food cravings and want to eat things that aren't necessarily going to fuel my body the way they should. I personally try to find balance, if I'm craving something I'll have a small portion because I feel like fighting it leads to binging and I'd much rather have a balanced diet.
I will say the surgery helps me with being able to recognize more easily when I'm actually hungry versus just wanting to eat for the sake of it. It's much easier to pause and check in with my body and then shut it down if I'm not actually hungry. With getting full so quickly it's also much easier to stop if you do start to eat something you shouldn't because you'll quickly get full.
Everyone here will tell you over and over again the surgery is just a tool you still have to put in the work to keep up with things. And for some of us it's harder work. I would love to be able to agree with all the points Tony presented above but they simply aren't true for me. So instead I make an effort to actively work against my cravings and my smaller stomach absolutely helps with that. (PS not to say Tony isn't working, I just mean it's different for everybody). It's definitely not a quick fix but I think worth it thus far.

Hot broth was amazing for savory cravings during pre-op. If he's making dinner, I'd try that. It's a tough period and you'll still be hungry but somethings something nice and salty instead of all the sweet stuff is a much needed reprieve. You'll be on the other side soon enough!

JDLane got a reaction from Sunnyway in Am I done losing after 5 months?
I can't offer assurances but I can commiserate. I was sleeved 5/12 and am very much in the same boat. My weight has remained pretty steadily the same for the last 3 weeks approximately. So frustrating especially because I'm soo close to being under 200lbs.
And similarly I'm feeling less restriction and getting hungry more often. I'm trying to eat more slowly as that really helps with feeling the restriction. But I'm mostly just trying to stay on course and hope my body will eventually move forward. I'd hate to think I hit the end of the road at only 5 months. I see my surgeon in a few weeks for a 6 month follow up so perhaps he will have some advice.
    Good luck!

JDLane got a reaction from GreenTealael in Wedding dress size?
Anyone get married while still in the weight loss time frame and purchase a wedding dress? I'm getting married in May of next year, almost exactly one year after my sleeve surgery. I need to choose and order my dress as soon as possible and I'm not sure what to do about the size. I'm currently a standard size 12/14 and so far in the dress I like best a bridal size 18 fit almost perfectly. However, I have no idea how much more weight I may lose in the next six months. I know dresses are easier to size down than up in alterations so I'm afraid to order even a size down in the case that I don't lose any more weight. Anyone been through this? Or in general have thoughts or words of wisdom? I'm already on a tight timeline with a short planning phase and worried if I need serious alterations it's going to be impossible or incredibly expensive. ugh.

Thank you! I have an appointment with my surgeon next week so I think I'll ask for his best estimate on what my continued loss will look like. And you're right a conversation with the tailor would probably be my best bet on how to order. Hopefully between the two of them I can make a good decision.

You could try to estimate based on your goal weight
    https://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/2020/02/24/wedding-dress-sizes-101/

my best guess/estimation for this dress:
    Are you losing rapidly? 8
    Are you losing slowly? 12
    my best overall advice:
    1. Ask the consultant/tailor for the exact measurements of the dress in every size from 18 to the smallest and ask them choose based on your goal weight.
    2. Pick a size in the middle range size and ask how hard/easy it would be for the tailor to alter it up one size or down a few sizes.
    3. Find out the exchange & refund policy. Keep close track of your progress throughout the year and change your dress plans accordingly.
    4. Altering something to be smaller is *almost* always easier than sizing up
    5. Congratulations in advance

That is a good question that I do not think many people if any can answer. The simple answer would be to estimate your current rate of weight loss and make a close guess as to what you expect to weigh at that point, knowing of course the rate of loss will slow as you get further out from surgery. Chances are you are going to need some alterations as you get closer because you cannot guess that precisely, so if anything, err on the side of caution. You can always make it smaller but pretty tough to add material if you do not lose as fast as you may expect. I know for one, I am changing sizes very rapidly. I am down 60 pounds and 3 pants sizes and 2 shirt sizes in the past 6 weeks. Even if I do not lose a lot of weight, the pants are getting looser because I am redistributing inches somehow. It is a tough call for you. Good luck

It may be cheaper to order the dress In a couple sizes than to alter it too much. Then at least you can sell the unaltered dress afterwards to get some of the money back.

I'm about 58lbs down since surgery and 80lbs overall since I started looking into WLS. I just crossed into Onederland yesterday and hopefully will stay there. I've recently been stalled for about 3 weeks which was incredibly frustrating but dropped yesterday and today so hopefully regular progress will be resuming again. I really need to get the gym more often and increase my exercise. The goal for success my dietician set was 180-200lbs so I'm technically within that but I would personally like to get down to 175 maybe even 150 if I can. I'm hoping to start trying to conceive this coming summer after I hit my 1 year mark and get cleared by the surgeon and I'd like to be as low as possible when that happens to avoid gaining too much back. Stalls are so hard on your head but I'm really hoping things move along again now.
