    May Surgeries - check in!

Good luck! I wish I would have done it years ago. I feel great and my health has improved so much. I am down from a size 22 to a size 9-10. I had no idea how big of a change it would make to my life in a positive way. For me it’s the not getting winded when I walk upstairs and having energy to play with my kids and the dogs that makes it worth it.

Today is my one year anniversary also! I feel like I have had the same ups, downs, and experiences that you have had as well. I have gone from 280 to 166 as of Sunday. I’m so afraid of regaining and also that I’m not at a healthy weight for my height (5’3) yet. Sometimes I have to remind myself of how far I’ve come. How far we have all come. It’s kind of mind boggling and amazing how far we have all come in a year. Congrats and happy one year!

You can totally get back on track! You haven’t thrown away the whole surgery. The important part is you know what you need to change to get back on track. You can do it.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I had this issue in September. My dietitian had my up my protein and back off on exercise and just walk. I was super worried id get even deeper in my rut but nope, she was right. I’m not sure where you are at with your activity and protein intake, but this was a good reset for me. All I was doing prior was riding my stationary bike and walking on my lunch breaks and regular house work and chasing kids. I upped to 75-80grams of protein. Don’t know if this will help but thought I’d share what helped me.

That is awesome 😀 I’m down 90lbs and am also trying to get to a personal goal. I want to be out of the obese category and just be overweight. I’ve got about 25lbs to go. Who’d have thought things would be so different in 6 months? I hope everyone is doing well and celebrating all the milestones, big and small. They all matter.

I’m officially 80lbs down 6 months out. I feel pretty great. I wonder if I’m the only one who doesn’t feel like a smaller person yet even after all the weight loss. It’s been a strange but good experience.

I’m actually feeling pretty great. Tolerating food well and sticking to the plan. High protein, low carb, low fat. Avoiding all the bad stuff. I still find myself relying a lot on protein shakes to hit my protein goals. My weight loss slowed in July and my dietician told me I was pushing too hard with working out and not getting enough protein. Go figure 🤷🏽‍♀️ I started pushing for 70-90 grams of protein a day and just walking and went back to 3-4lbs weight loss per week. I’m officially down 65lbs and have a lot more energy. I hope everyone else is doing well. This journey has had its ups and downs, but it’s been worth it.

I’ve definitely had the burping issue. I think it’s because sometimes I am trying to finish the whole 1/4 cup of food and it’s just too much at that time. My dietitian said it can be a sign I’m just full. Or maybe it’s just because I’m always talking and inhaling too much while I eat 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m just glad to hear I’m not the only burper out there 😆

I had my surgery on May 3rd and same here. 3 meals a day or 5-6 smaller meals and I eat about 500-600 calories max per day. It would be really rough getting to 1000 per day. I know I am not allowed to eat that much right now either.

Which gummy vitamins are you taking? I’d love to find some that don’t come right back up. Zofran is the only thing helping me these days 😔

    May Surgeries - check in!

Sleeved 5/3. Was at 275 that morning, at 252 this morning. Was hoping to be at 25lbs down at 30 days, but happy with my progress so far. Vitamins have been a struggle. I have to take zofran with my bariatric vitamin otherwise it’s immediate vomiting. Otherwise I’ve been able to tolerate almost all other foods I’m allowed and able to force down enough water. Cravings haven’t been bad. Idk why but I’d really love some cream of wheat or something. My Dr said ummm absolutely not lol. Hope everyone else is doing well.

I appreciate your response. I am going to talk to my doctor today. I’ve been doing well with fluids, or so I thought, but maybe I’m missing something somewhere. I’ve definitely decided to take the whole month. Before I had surgery I was like oh I’ll go back in two weeks. Ha! I’ve been doing pretty well so far, just crazy fatigued and weak. I have faith “normal” is somewhere around the corner here soon. I’m definitely going to ask about fluids. Thanks!

Out of curiosity, I was wondering how much time everyone is taking off from work after surgery. My surgeon suggested a month off so I was approved for that amount of FMLA from my employer and use temp disability and paid time off I have banked up. Honestly I almost wish I had more time off to adjust to the diet and fatigue I’m feeling. I’m tired all the time and feel like a whiner or I’m failing somewhere. I had surgery May 3rd so maybe I’ll feel different when the 1st rolls around. Anyways, just curious what recovery time everyone else is taking!

My first 2 days were clear liquids. Then protein shakes and Greek yogurt until this week (I had surgery May 3rd). Now I am on mushy foods. Cottage cheese, tuna, fat free refried beans, puréed ground turkey & chicken, soft scrambled egg. I’m nervous about trying actual food this week, but excited to have something besides protein shakes. I’ve also noticed food options seem to vary a ton depending on people’s surgeons. It’s interesting.
