    Post-op VSG pain

Thanks for helping us see what one month out can look like. I say call your surgeon's office to describe what is going on.

    Anyone getting sleeved 3/22?

Congratulations on coming through. Gas pain issues began coming up for me late on Day 2 and on Day 3. Perhaps I wasn't walking around enough and the gas was not moving through and out of my body. I finally took some Mylanta, which was approved by my surgeon, today, Day 3, in the morning and it helped. A heating pad on the part of my body where I could feel the gas pressing, also really helped with the discomfort. My main activity for Days 1, 2, and now 3 are to measure my intake of broth, water, jello, and popscicles to make sure I'm staying hydrated. Dehydration is the #1 complication, I read.

    Anyone getting sleeved 3/22?

Like you, I am on my first day after yeseterday's surgery. So sorry to hear about your throat and the tube problem. I have a bit of a sore throat and some swelling around the puncture sites and abdomen, but otherwise feeling much better than I expected.
  4. I had my surgery yesterday, 3/22 and I’m feeling great right now, the morning afterward. I am enjoying “taking it easy”. I arrived at hospital at 5:30 am, surgery was at 8:00 am. I was in the car heading home at 12:30. Such a smooth seamless event. I walked around the hospital floor, sipped 4 oz. of water, and breathed good enough into the breath blower thing, that I was allowed to come home. Pain has been minimal. The worst was the CO2 pumped into abdomen—it moved to my chest, but walking around the house yesterday, once an hour for 15 minutes helped. Today, I feel tenderness in my abdomen area and some slight discomfort around the punctures. There is a lot to coordinate here from home, so it was nice to have my daughter as a helper yesterday afternoon and evening: ice packs on the puncture sights (very small), sipping water from shot glasses to try to get at least 40 oz in the first day. Also, you need to take medications at intervals. I am NOT on opioids or narcotics. The pain protocol used is called ERAS: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. I was skeptical but I highly recommend it. I found it helpful to suck on popsicles as part of my water requirement yesterday, and bone broth. Aiming to avoid the complication of dehydration. This morning I am trying a small glass of my usual a morning cold brew (without the almond milk) and it seems like life’s biggest treat. There is conflicting information about whether or not you can have caffeinated drinks, but I’m giving it a try. I will try a smoothie tomorrow or the next day. .l/;’ I hope all the other newbies are doing OK. Let me know how you are.

Mine is going Ok. I am NOT on liquid only. More like Keto for 2 weeks. Lots of meat. The day before surgery is all liquid. How’s yours going?

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Mine is scheduled for one week from tomorrow, a Monday morning, 8:30 am. I am supposed to arrive at the hospital at 6:00 am. I have NOT heard from the surgery team at the hospital yet. I was told I would hear from them to schedule a visit to the hospital sometimes during the week before (that would be next week). I'm concerned that I have not heard from "the team", so I will call tomorrow morning to make sure no wires got crossed there. I do not know exactly what is supposed to happen at this meeting. Something about giving me a drink to drink on the way to the hospital on the morning of the surgery. Is anyone familiar with that type of meeting pre-operatively?
  13. Hi Kaj,

We are similar ages.  I'm slated to have VGS with Tim Faulkenberry on 3/22.  Curious to know what you thought of his skills, his practice and aftercare.  So far, I've found his office to be a bit disorganized and I am hoping that he is NOT disorganized.

I have lots of comorbidities to eradicate.  I am 22 lbs. lower than my highest weight of several years ago, but 15 lbs higher than my lowest weight.  I gained the 15 back quite easily during COVID.  I've been on saxenda, phentremine, and topomax over the years (as well as WW) in an effort to reduce pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea.  This past year, I was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 3a.  There is a history of cardiovascular disease on my paternal side.

Although I am 70 years "young", I do not act, feel, or look like an old person.  I still work full time and am active with my 5 grandchildren, ages 9-2.  I am a 5-mile walker, a few times per week, for the last 15 years or so, and I do strength training.  My aim is to be like my role-model, my 96-year old mother, who remains, active, smart, and full of grace, beloved by her 7 great-grandchildren.

I hope you are doing well, this far out from your surgery.  Would love to know anything you can warn me about Dr. F and his staff or any good news about them, based on your experience.  Thanks.

  14. Has anyone else out there been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 3a I was diagnosed in late August. VGS is scheduled for 3/22. My highest weight was 22 pounds more than I am now and that was several years ago. Over the past years, I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, Add to that, this year: pre-diabetes and CKD, 3a. Anyone had success with reversing (or stopping) CKD, beginning with Stage 3a? Did the VGS help? My A1C only recently hit the pre-diabetes marker. Previous treatments for obesity have included Saxenda, phentremine, and topomox--for a few years now. BTW, I am 70 years "young." I don't feel, act or look like an old person. I still work full-time, and I am active with my 5 grandchildren. I have been a 5-mile walker, a few times per week, with friends, for years.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I am scheduled for 3/22 Gastric Sleeve. I have been on a high protein, low carb pre-op for one week, as prescribed by doctor, I have Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 3a, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and family history of cardiovascular disease. Currently, I am 22 pounds down from my absolute highest weight, and 15 pounds higher than my lowest weight. I reached my low right before COVID and regained those 15 pounds over the past year. I also turned 70 during this past COVID year, however, I do not feel, act or look like an old person. I work full time and am active with my 5 grandchildren. I'm hoping that my comorbidities will disappear and that I can live as long as my role model: my 96 year old beautiful, smart, and graceful mother who is loved by her 7 great-grand-children.
