your scale of Drs?
Oh that's a good Idea . I never thought of that. I'll try that one day. I don't trust Dr's scales because they weigh everyone on those same scales and who's to say when or if they're ever calibrated? I go by my home scale which I think is very accurate, I'll know better when I do the above trick. Not weighing myself right now. I'm just banded and don't want to get on that "I'm not losing" rollercoaster.

are gummy vitamins ok?
i take the Vita fusion Gummy Vitamins from Target. Their really good and a quick chew. Somedays I take Centrum chewables, whichever I reach first. I think your nutrionist was probably referring to gummy bears or candy because their an easy slide through .

Liquid Tylenol and Liquid Advil where do you buy it???
Liquid Advil is a no, no post surgery. As for the liquid tylenol, I asked the same question on Bandedliving.com because I too was told by a not a clue pharmacist that there was no such thing as liquid Tylenol. She said the only liquid is children's Tylenol and that I would have to take a mega-dose for it to be effective . Some Tylenol has been recalled but not the adult liquid. You have to go to a few places to find it but I found mine at Duane Reade in NY and at Rite-Aid. I have 3 bottles now since it is so hard to find. You have to shop around for it . To me the taste of liquid Tylenol is not bad about on the level of Nyquil perhaps a tad milder.

First Fill... Should I Even Get It?
Bleeding from where? if your incisions you should call your surgeons office. Are you feeling feverish? Is the place your bleeding from swollen , inflamed, looking infected? Call your Dr. Dee

First Fill... Should I Even Get It?
This is exactly what I was going to say. sounds like you are bare-knuckling it right now (bummer) Your 1st fill will probably leave you feeling just as you do now perhaps leave you satisfied a little longer. It will also give you time to work on that chewing better thing . I know I have to I just got banded and I still gulp sometimes and today I was so hungry I wolfed down some broth w/ mashed veggies 'til I caught myself. Now all I've had today was that 1 can of light Soup and a 1/2 diet Snapple and I'm uncomfortably full.

What if i never what up?
This was my fear too last week but I didn't want to voice it because this site can already be so negative. When I went for my medical clearance with my PCP I asked him...can I die? can I have a stroke? can I have a heart attack? He looked at me like I was nuts and said , NO!!!! He said that's what all the testing is about to insure there are no problems they can foresee. He also reassured me this the lap band surgery has a very low complication rate. I was really nervous about dying because I'm a little older now and I'm so heavy and have high blood pressure but after he told me that I felt a whole lot better and I hope you do too. You'll be on here posting your surgery story like everyone else. Chill out, be positive that will take you further. Dee

August rush 2010!!!
Hey Diane, I'm doing great , will start mushies in about 2 days. The liquid diet passed by in a breeze didn't really think about it much because I was not hungry, can't wait to move on though. Most of us that have been banded already are in the August rush in bandland thread. Dee
-
2 days until mushies...
I have 2 more days too. I'm planning on some scrambled eggs w/red. fat cheese on top and some baked flounder with some mushy broccoli..yummy!! I just saw a recipe today for some refried Beans with just a little ground turkey ,some ff cheese and salsa on top that was posted by an at goal bandster . She served it on a little saucer . I think that may be good.

Leslie Sansone
Her DVD's are great . I was off on another tangent on my treadmill but I decided to take it back a notch and do Leslie until my energy kicks back in. I was just banded on 8/16. Starting this tomorrow.

Stuck on soup?
My surgeon didn't put any fluid in mine but I have read on here that some have fluid in on surgery day.

Is there something wrong with me?
I had no pain either , really none. I was amazed after reading all the negativity here. Especially because I got the band and I had a hernia repair. I also had minimal gas pain that was easily handled with Gas-X. I asked for a pain killer the night of my surgery more so to help me sleep than for pain. I took 2 of the prescribed pain killers since being home to head off pain that never came. So I take the liquid Tylenol at night to sleep and I'm good. I'm amazed at how good I feel. I started working out just a little today, 20 min on my treadmill ( a slow walk) and my temp spiked a bit but I took another dose of tylenol and I feel fine now. Dee

Stuck on soup?
This is what I'm thinking. I was just banded 8/16. I don't have much of an appetite at all but we have to get used to eating as we should. i still make the mistake some times of just taking a big gulp of Water and then I don't feel stuck but I feel it in my throat like a piece of bread going down slowly. That feeling reminds me to slow down and sip. Dee

Hi. I'm new here, banded two days ago
I am 55 and other than being embarrassed and depressed about my weight I feel great and not old at all. My couple of friends that know I had the surgery on 8/16 tease me about being a hot mess when I get to goal. I still feel youthful that's why I decided to finally do this so that i can still enjoy myself while I have a glimmer of youth left. Hey 50's are the new 40 and 40's are the new 30's and I guess it helps that I have a younger DH that I've been with for over 21 years. Age is all in your mind and just a number if your healthy and fit it's even better and that's what all of us "ladies of a certain age" are trying to achieve. I wish you all the best.

Port protuding
I was just banded 8/16 and I can feel my port quite easily already even though my belly is still swollen. I guess that will be good when I get my fills so I'm not complaining. There is a woman on Youtube that has reached goal with her band . She was showing herself in a bikini and you can clearly see her port. I am pretty sure when I reach goal mine will look like that but since I have passed bikini age it will not bother me one bit as long as it's not painful.

Eating is not as enjoyable as it used to be!
I was just banded on 8/16 and I'm feeling good so far. I may change my mind as time goes on but as for right now...I'm praying for all the feelings above. I've had and tasted and indulged in all there is to eat bringing me to this point. I would love to lose interest in food and eat to live instead of living to eat.

Goodbye 200's
Congrats Dena, I was just banded Monday and I've lost 10lbs already. I'm so excited. I have a ways to go b4 onederland but I'm sure I'll get there. My next appt & first fill will be in the week of Sept. 20th . My goal is to be down another 20lbs by then. My Dr cleared me for exercise already so I got up today and did 20 min. on the treadmill planning to work up to at least an hour a day bit by bit. Dee

HELP: Got banded yesterday and im swollen... need advice
You had major surgery yesterday so I would think it's only normal that minimally you are sore and swollen . As for taking meds unless its a pain pill maybe you should lay off anything else right now unless its crucial. I was just banded this past Monday. I thought they would send me home with a liquid pain killer but they didn't . I got a prescrip for Percocet Tabs. I really didn't need them thankfully because I was not in much pain at all but when I did take a couple I broke it into 3 pcs and swallowed 1 pc at a time with a sip of Water and allowed it to go down before I took the next piece. I've been taking liquid Tylenol to head off any pain at night. Sips, sips, no gulps. As for the gas I have taken a whole pack of chewable Gas-X since I'm home to get it out of my system. It has helped immensely. You are supposed to be on a strictly clear liquid diet ckn broth, water , Crystal lite, etc....sip, sip, sip. Watch that throwing up right now you don't want to slip your band already. Call your Dr if you don't know what to do or are concerned. Dee

Way off track
rguay..your almost there , go get your fill and finish the race. Hey Sarah, funny you post today finally after much hassle with our surgeons office I'm finally getting banded today. I've realized from their dealing with me that this is going to be all about me and I have to do this for myself. Their neglect and attitude has shown me that I have to work this band for myself. Your too young to be going through this. Seems like you have a good start already. Recommit, get your fill if you need one and start over from day 1 if you have to. I wish you the best. Dee

August rush 2010!!!
Wow BeachBunny that's great!! I'm up getting ready to go to the hospital. I couldn't sleep much at all last night . The last time I saw was about 4am and then my neighbor called at 7 to wish me well today. Hopefully , I'll be tired tonight and sleep in the hospital. I have to stay overnight and I loathe hospitals. I'm also really thirsty but can't drink anything and my surgery probably won't be until after 2 or so . I'm trying not to think about it. Getting my clothes together and playing with my dog. Dogs are so smart she knows something is going on so she keeps looking at me Like she does when we're packing for vaca. LaurieH and Amanda , be well. Please let's all meet back here tomorrow. Beachbunny try to chill today and be ready for tomorrow.

Discouraging friends anyone?
This is why I decided not to tell anyone but then I did tell at least 3 close friends and I already feel like that's too many . This was a very personal and hard decision to make so I am not tolerating anyone giving me a hard time about it. I understand whatever decision a person has to make for their own good but I cannot see cutting up my stomach or intestines unless I am told I have a cancer or something like that . A person is an idiot that suggests you have such an invasive surgery over the lap band and their ill-informed . I'm gonna do what I have to do for myself and whoever doesn't like it is welcome to step off and never speak to me again.

August rush 2010!!!
Thanks for the well wishes. I know I'm crazy. I'm walking around the house looking at things like my dirty mirrors in the bathroom and thinking "If I don't come home what will they think of me" I'm looking at my jewelry wondering who will get it. Looking at my shoes thrown on the closet floor thinking I should put them away. :cursing: My PCP reassured me all is well but honestly I won't feel good until I'm back in my own bed. Dee

the worst thing that happened so far
Doesn't sound like your band was suddenly too tight though I have heard of traveling causing that. You said yourself you stuffed the 2 bites down perhaps in your rush you didn't chew the chicken well and it came back up. I've read it happens to the best banders every once in a while. Doesn't seem like it's anything to be worried about just be careful from now on perhaps you should have asked for a take out container and took your time taking a few bites and chewing well in the taxi. I hope you feel better.

Cant walk away....
Thank you Zenaida. I was just looking at your surgery date and thinking ..boy, if I had to wait another 10 days!!! I've been following your posts, hopefully I can be encouraging to you as I start my post banded journey . Dee
